Michael. 2313 Report post Posted July 13, 2018 I never really bothered to understand how valvetronic works in BMW engines. This video breakdown explains it quite well What is generally thought about the system? Is it reliable? Seems like there's a lot of small parts that could fail!
aja540i 1906 Report post Posted July 13, 2018 Aren't all modern BMW engines just a collection of small parts that could break? 1 1
GorGasm 563 Report post Posted July 13, 2018 (edited) Actually looks very simple to me. Interesting video though. Edited July 13, 2018 by GorGasm
Jacko 2152 Report post Posted July 13, 2018 250,000km on the 130, not a single fault with the valvetronic system.. so yeh id say its reliable. BMW ditched it with the N53 etc as the similar end results can be had (in terms of fuel efficiency/power/driveablity) with direct injection... which is cheaper and easier to make!
Michael. 2313 Report post Posted July 13, 2018 I was under the impression it was because the direct injection system couldn't fit in with the already crowded cylinder head.
