richard 384 Report post Posted August 2, 2018 engine s50b32 standard (321)hp I've been asking a certain web site about gaining more horsepower. They have a stroker kit available with (added torque and power gains). When I ask how much power gains they dance around the question. This is the answer to the question. "Now the stage 3 performance cylinder head has advantages because of the light weight valves, springs and retainers. Stage 3 also includes the 5 axis CNC Porting which is a big + to gain power. " Its not like I'm going to nickel and dime it, I got cold hard cash ( Don't own a boat or a Bach). Am I asking the question the right way.
andrewm 236 Report post Posted August 2, 2018 Why bother if they are already giving you the run around? Stroker will only give % gains relative to size increase. ie 3.2--> 3.4 = 6.25% so you will get most of that say 15- 19hp. Make sure porting has flow bench results, plenty of opportunity to go backwards when porting.
E30 325i Rag-Top 2958 Report post Posted August 3, 2018 I can understand why they are reluctant to give an exact figure, as any gains would be dependent on the rest of the "system" from the intake through to the exhuast, and they wouldn't want to be held to a number. However, I would expect them to be able to say, "gains in the region of xx% using standard intake and exhaust" or something along those lines. The fact they are being sketchy sounds to me like they have either never done the tests, or they don't have faith in their products.
richard 384 Report post Posted August 3, 2018 That's what I was expecting 15-20HP based on this or that. I've even asked, " what parts do I need to buy from you to reach 450hp" answer " full stroker kit". not even a list of parts. that's $20000us dollars not coming their way. sweetm3 180 Report post Posted August 3, 2018 Hey Richard I did a quick search as I'm no expert on stoker kits, but from what I picked up from a few of the threads, where it had been done. They had spent $15000 + US in the early 2000s. When 400+ hp was talked about it was said that race teams were having to rebuild the engines very 20-30 hrs. https://store.vacmotorsports.com/mobile/vac---s50b30--s50b32-euro-e36-m3-34l-premium-stroker-kit-p2363.aspx They list the parts in this kit. If you're happy with 20hp extra then a modified exhaust and a tune can do that on a s50b32 or are you looking as you have to rebuild the bottom end ? Which direction would I go horsepower is a prickly point. There are so many combinations from so many different parts. picking the best solution is at best a dark science. which is why I turned to a web site that "specialise' in these parts. Is there a better site to ask HP questions.
Herbmiester 927 Report post Posted August 18, 2018 To be fair on a highly tuned N/A factory engine your gains are never going to very high. Whatever you get will require a bucket load of cash, but it sounds like you are prepared to do that. What about forced induction?
richard 384 Report post Posted August 19, 2018 I'm afraid the race rules prohibit that. Car didn't come factory with forced induction.
E30 325i Rag-Top 2958 Report post Posted August 20, 2018 Don't get too hung up on the overall "hp" number for your race car, when I helped James with the E30 Endurance Car which ran the S50B32, after a freshen up we managed to get really useable low-to-mid range gains by having it properly dyno-tuned without the need for other mods. All depends on how much power you want under your foot I guess?
