you can probably find that stuff on the internet.

slowest to fastest:

GSR

RS

VR4

(though with old ones it is probably more condition dependant than anything else, they are all pretty similar stock)

VR4's have the most potential. GSRs cant handle much more boost unless you start increasing fuel, and then the rods break. RS's have average drivelines/gearboxes.

Problem is most of these cars are like a used up hooker. Good like finding a VR4 that isn't jaded.

You're brave, or have a deep pocket.

Check out the latest Autotrader. Even tho it's probably been raped for the past decade, theres a nice looking black RS in there for 4 grand.

other thing you need to look for and be wary of is the front of the crank tends to break. That is motor out and serious $$$ to fix.

Forester sti are just a WRX sti with a different body. Floor pan and chassis is all the same. They have the same inherent problems as WRX sti. Standard sti runs 17psi boost. That is how they get the 205kw. Standard steel crank and rods is a bonus and that is how they stay together. Expensive to fix all the same. My ma has a 2000 sti wagon. $450 for an oxy sensor. Common fault. They also leak water out of the manifold bypass tude. 2 o-rings per side. These are a cheap part but the labour will kill you. 7-8 hours to do it. Water pumps are also a common failure. 5 hours labour.

LOL what happened to not owning a manual because your gonna get pwned by a cop and lose ur licence ... owning anyone of those other cars is gonna get you pulled up a hell of alot more than a 318i. No licence = no car.

I had a '91 facelift RS for 9.5 years and 140,000kms. Clutch was replaced at 93k as a precaution, was about 70% worn, as long as you're not an ape, they're fine as is the rest of the car. Regular oil changes are key. Steering racks leak, header tanks can fail (replacement aluminium fixes this), brakes can't stand up to hard use as they fade. Sunroofs leak and are $400 to repair, run a hose over it to check. Mine had an appetite for CV joints. Other problems with the car were all minor (split hoses etc), although look out for replacement plugs ($23-35 each) and coils ($100-135 each) which will drop fuel consumption to the mid teens (mpg). Performance? I had 4 magazine tests, ranged from 6.1, 6.5, 6.9, 7.1 for 0-100 and 14.9-15.6 for quarter mile. Don't know if I still have them as I lost interest when the car was stolen, which it will be without a top immobiliser/alarm.

Buy the bloody car and get it sorted before you start worrying about how much boost to run.

It will depend entirely on the setup the car you buy is using.

therefore 1.7 barg = 24.65642 psig

My brother runs 21lbs, but dont really know much about his set up. But I do know that being in the car doing full boost or how ever you would say it is pretty cool.

But he deffinatly has a few reliability issues that goes with it, I have been in the car each time it broke and needless to each time it broke it cost a at least a few grand to fix it again, my point being that it may be cool to have a fast done up japanese (or any car for that matter) but when they break its normally a lot of things that break and usually costs you a lot to fix, so be careful.

A good friend oif mine owned a car yard specialising in fast turboed japanese cars and told me to stay away from the 4G63 Mitsi (or whatever it is). Rods through the block are common up to Evo 5 and whilst you can get big power out of them, they will go bang.

Question, why are we even discussing this on a Bimmer website? Put a Bimmer V12 in whatever you have and make us all proud.

I had a VR-4 a few years back and they can really get up and fly - especially on a gravel road. But, and its a big but, drive them hard and eventually at anywhere from 150 - 180 thou km they tend to need either turbo work, gearbox work, or engine work. Mitsi build quality is crap imo, a bit like the e30 except with thinner steel.

are you serious.....you cant help but drive fast in those cars...sti at 205 kw will beat 150 odd kw rs.If you want reliable keep it stock,or very close to stock

If you want to keep your license keep your 318

Try www.carfolio.com but then you will have to work out what the Europeans call the cars you are looking at.

Enter the make of car you are looking for in the quick search and scroll through until you find what you are after.

Enjoy!
