Did the editors of Hot Fours and Fast Fours and Rotaries fail School C maths or something?!!! Whenever I flick through one of these mags in the Supermarket, there is invariably one or two Skylines, Supras, or 300ZX's gracing the pages, and now an M3. They are always fast to bag anything with a V8, and yet somehow straight sixes and V6's are okay? What gives?

damn that paintjob looks spectacular!

but yea, i agree with conrod....why are these 4-cylinder mags so biased?? i mean, an M3 is a good car, but if they are always whining about V8s, then surely an M3 is an M3 (read: "SIX" cylinders)... <_<

I wondered that also.

And what happens when someone does something ricey to the new (V8) M3? Will that get a mention? :jap:

because people would rather buy a 4cyl and spend sh*t loads on them to go slower than a v8. rather than buying a v8 and do nothing to it and then still pwn the ricers.

could you argue that v8 buyers are lazy, meaning they just buy a fast car or that they are smart enough (over ricers) to buy an already fast car and make it unbeatable?

Or that they have small penis's and need to compenstate by buying sh*t and making it shinny. But, before you dis them. If your ulimate goal is to attract the opposite sex, does your car need to be blinged with chromed or go fast?

How big is your Television? Just remeber, depending on the weight and size of your 'optional airbag or handbrake' the more gofast bits you will need for your rice racer for the power to weight ratio to become acceptable.

Hey Guys have a good look at your stereotype V8 owner, they are generally associated [but not always] with Gangs,Westies,or Hot-Rodders[60 year old men trying to be American teenagers] They are the First to judge every non V8 owner & are very narrow minded & arrogant with their views. This is something AVESCO is cashing in on with their publicity circus/V8 show.

I personally Race a V8 car ,but I try & distant myself from the stereotype V8 Beer Swilling Black Teeshirt Brigade.

I love classic racing & anything with a History. Historically The RX7 is probably the most raced car in the world since it was released 28 years ago, yet it is not accepted in classic racing circles [Moffat raced one at Bathhurst]

V8 owners [as well as Harley,or Beemer ,or Ferrari Etc] buy a vehicle to satisfy their emotion needs, this is something our marketing guys load our brains with [check the ad on bimmer forums]

The Hot 4's editors are showing a bit of open-mindedness by publishing other vehicles [They are probably more up to date with motoring trends, than say the editors of the HotRod Magazines]

One final word: ANYBODY CAN RESTORE A CLASSIC, BUT IT TAKES A REAL MAN TO CUT ONE UP! haha!

oh who wouldnt? Id be first in line, including a RS6 and new RS4 too! Love my euro and jap V8s, from what i guess timo was talking about was the whole american/australian v8 lover vs import 4 cyl lover. And the price to get power out of each.

Dont get me wrong, I dig a good australian 351 or a decent 350 but at the end of the day, theyre old tech now. So much more easier to get power out of turbo imports.

a decent 350 but at the end of the day, theyre old tech now.

Not true - my mate (who is only 20) has a 2005 SS Commodore ute - factory 250 odd KW and it has really changed my opinions - he has only done the exhaust and intake but it is f**kin insane. It seems the more V8s I drive or go for a ride in, the more convinced I am that they are the way - I mean like Tim said - look at how much you have to spend to make a 4 banger as fast as a V8.

Jason (with the VZ SS Commy) recently went to drift school and got 3rd (and "most extreme drifter") - that was on the track with guys in cefiros and laurels etc who had put in a lot of engine work... V8s just have a way bigger and more useable rev range, where an RB25DET (or other jap turbo) needs to be on boost to get power.

Look at the recent Imports Vs V8s drags they had at Meremere... The V8s absolutely cleaned up - even Reece McGreggor in "Austrialsia's fastest GTR" was taken down by a V8. I think the final points talley on the day was V8s 35 to Imports 5. Looking at those figures, how can you tell me that a 4 Banger is the way to go?

My 2c is that V8s are just like convertables... Dont knock them until you have tried them or at least had your ass whipped by one.

Back to the topic - that M3 looks pretty sweet - go fast with sounds. Nice. :mosh:

It's interesting this debate.

When we went on our bimmersport trip around clevedon, we ran into a M3 CSL. The guy pulled over and we had a chat, He said he was going to buy a top of the line HSV because all his mates own them. I said well I bet your glad you didn't then. He said that hes having a ton more fun in the CSL and got a ribbing for bying it. but his friend soon saw how much better / faster the CSL was.

Im actually past the point of being annouyed of Aussie and NZ metality or the v8 n00b bragade think that the HSV or ford XR / TR range are the kings of the road.

There is also nothing wrong with these vehicles, as they make good family towing vehicles for a cheap price.

It's only the small minded that will bag something without ever having tried it.

Personally I don't like the styling of most imports so I wouldn't ever try them.

Remember that the standard entry level Ford/Holden V8 engines are just that... entry level. If car companies put the time & money into engineering what the engines are truely capable of ... look at what BMW, Mercedes and Ferrari can do with a V8.

Using a 4.0L V8 from a Ford Fairmont to say V8s are crap is like saying L4 engines are crap by demonstrating a 1.6L Ford Laser. Put a 2.0L Honda S2000 engine up as comparison instead?

I have not been impressed by cars like HSV Clubsports. Even though they may have horsepower, torque & a nice exhaust note... until recently the rest of the package has let them down badly. I remember jumping into a late 90's Clubsport after my 2000 model Nissan 200SX 2.0T and thinking "is this it??"

But check out how many heads turn when a Mercedes E55 AMG lets rip down a city street... :mosh:

Along the lines of being dissapointed with holdens, jumped into a 5.7L calais, brand new, I was also sadly disappionted, i mean, it was average fast, but it was a 5.7L, crazy.

I agree with the notion of car companies not engineering engines thouroughly.

Holden V8s are nothing special, as they are just the average Chevy engines from da States, just Holden badged. Add to that the 5.7, and in some cases, the 6.0L capacity, and it seems hopeless. Even the 5.4L V8 in the Falcon range isnt too high-tech....although FPV does manage to tune it to a good level. Aussie manufactures take the "there's no replacement for displacement" rule a bit too far, IMO. Making more power with less capicity is no hard task...Look how much power BMW made with the 5L V8 in the E39............

Or for a more everyday-car comparison, look at the V8 Nissan has made: 4.5L, 250kW in base spec....and they havent even begun tuning it yet.......
