First Timer 22 Report post Posted February 15, 2022 Hi, I just had a shop do a retrograde on my 2010 E89 to add cruise control. afterwards, the CIC has no language and just check boxes. when i go to settings it doesn't allow me to go to settings. resetting the CIC makes no difference. the updated NZ maps show up but only in half screen. any ideas on who i should turn to? i'm near Dunedin. tia
E30 325i Rag-Top 2959 Report post Posted February 16, 2022 @First Timer sounds to me like you should take it back to the shop that did the retrograde as you call it. Give them the chance to sort it out for you as it sounds very much to me like they buggered it up.
promo 93 Report post Posted February 17, 2022 sounds like they added VO and recoded your CIC which may have wiped out some settings.. hopefully they took a backup of your settings and can reload it
First Timer 22 Report post Posted February 24, 2022 yes they did and it was a 7 minute fix. when they updated the software they mistakenly disabled the CIC. Soundworks in Christchurch didn't charge me anything for the fix. but it did cost me a tank of fuel for the road trip from Dunedin. dealer says my car can run on 95 RON but if i put in anything less than (98 Ron) the engine warning light shows on my dash. My Jap import N52 has a compression ratio of 11:1. is that any different? or is it based on Jap emission standards?

What fault codes are you getting when the engine light comes on?
First Timer 22 Report post Posted February 27, 2022 i don't know the fault codes. When i run the all systems check everything checks out ok. I took it down to cooke howlison bmw and they said there wasn't any meaningful fault codes and they cleared them. I read on a Canadian post that the engine light can come on if the engine is not meeting emission standards based on the fuel. maybe Japan has higher emission standards? all i know is the first time i added half a tank of BP 95 fuel the engine light came on. when i got down to 3/4 tank i added NPD 100 RON and engine light went off. I tried this once again with filling tank with BP 95 RON and the engine light comes back on but the car drives fine. If i use 98 or 100 RON then no engine light warnings. according to the chassis the engine is a N52B25A imported from Japan.
Driftit 2080 Report post Posted February 28, 2022 I run mine on both 95 and 98. Never had a check light come on. You need to find out what code is causing the light to come on. Only thing I could think of would be detonation. And as these engines have zero issues on 95 it could be plugs that need replacing or possible you have a coil pack or two on its way out and have weak spark. No all fuel in Japan is high octane. And NPD has some dodgy sh*t in there 100RON fuel. Stuff that is banned in Europe last I read.

There's definitely something wrong with your car. The response you got from Cooke Howlison sounds like a typical bull$hit dealership. I would suggest bypassing them and find a BMW specialist. If the check engine light comes on, there will definitely be codes stored in the fault memory.
First Timer 22 Report post Posted March 1, 2022 Eurosurgen cleared all the old codes including shadow memory codes. According to my ANSEL BM700 there are no fault codes and everything checks out ok. I did a 0-100k from standing start and my phone said it took 5.7 seconds. The car has 126K on it now. I'm wondering if someone did something to the engine to modify it. the 2.5 is not "pokey" but that seems rather quick. Ironically, i bought the car because its a N52 and i was looking at reliability instead of performance. I'll try the 95 ron next time i need fuel and see if the light comes on again. If the engine light comes on again then i think i'll go for a dyno to see if the stock 2.5 has been modded. PS: i went to a "BMW specialist" here in Dunedin and the end result was having to drive up to Christchurch so it could be hooked up to Eurosergeon's system in Auckland to fix it.
