Space saver or 2nd hand wheel for an E60

I have a 2009 525i E60. It came with run-flats but I found it very unresponsive with these on so, when the time came to renew two of them I chucked the lot and bought four normal tyres - 225/50/R17s. It drives better with the normal tyres (though not as good as the E46s I've owned in the past) so am loathe to go back to run-flats.

However... I didn't realise it came with no spare (yes, I should have looked - doh!) until I found out the hard way 🙄.

So am now in the market for a space saver or cheap wheel (with or without tyre) that will suit the car.

I have a new, unused 'narrow' space saver here. Full size tyre so not one that you have to inflate before use.

I'll try to get out to the garage to get more details this evening.

OK - I have pics and details.

The rim looks to have come from an E46 - part number is 1095264. I found specific mention of this part number being supplied with a 1999 328i, but it looks like a general supply for the E46 and E36 Z3.

Tyre is a Continental, size 125/90-16. This will be about 1" smaller in overall diameter than your 225/50-17 (it'd be perfect match for temporarily replacing a 205/55-17) so it's a touch large for a stock E46 replacement. Use it on a non-drive axle and obey the speed 80km/h restriction.

The tyre is not cracked. The whole thing needs a clean.
Biggest concern is whether it would actually fit over the brake calipers. I've no idea about that.

and ET18 for a e60 , 3 series type wont work

The guy who repaired the puncture also advised me to buy 17 inch rims, though he said it was about stability - anything else and the electronics would detect it and slow the car to 30kmh. He was just a general tyre retailer and fitter, not a BMW specialist, but I don't want to take any chances. Also, I'm not sure whether the mounting holes would be correct on anything other than a salvaged rim or a space saver made for the vehicle?

I've now discovered I can get a space saver kit from offshoe, but the shipping is 5x the price of the part!

@BM WORLD what price to get either a rim or entire wheel to Lower Hutt (5014 post code)? I'm guessing the rim alone is going to be way cheaper 😕

My $0.05 @Polemic is you probably need a space saver if you want it to fit in the space saver sized hole in the boot of your car.  I think a full sized rim will either be too round (e.g. the rim diameter is too large for the holding area in the boot) or will be too tall (rim width is too wide) and will raise the boot floor.  When I purchased my car the importer fitted it with non run flats and sent me on my way and I didn't like that idea so I looked around for a while but ended up settling on a new space saver kit from the local bmw dealer.  It wasn't cheap but there weren't really any other options I could find locally, and as you've found out shipping for one from overseas was prohibitive. 

You could maybe have a look around some of the vehicles that are on trademe for parts/wrecking and look them up in the vin decoder to see if they came with a space saver.  you might get lucky?  I think the option you're looking for is 'S300 - Emergency Spare Wheel' which is in the "Environment and Safety" section in Mdecoder.

You can measure it up easy enough and pick the best wheel\tire option. Not sure what E60's are like but i run a full size front wheel\tire in 225/40/18 as a spare in my E46. It was optioned with the 126/80R17 space saver. Raises the boot floor slightly (~5mm) but not enough to impact anything. You could glue feet to the boot lining and space it out anyway if you really wanted.

I brought a full size 17" for when doing out of town travel in 130i, but it means my partner can no longer take the " kitchen sink" ( only room for couple of duffle bags in the boot).
