no gears in auto

Recommended Posts

Hi, bought an E30 318i with a cracked head, have fitted a new motor, and it's going, but I can't get any drive or reverse now, the new motor went in OK, is there something silly I might have done somewhere?

does the car roll? as in when you take it out of park?

if so your your trans is gone. Check the connection of the gear selector. esp the one on the gearbox.

Is there oil in the gearbox? <--- silly but you never know!!

Also silly.... did you replace the 3 bolts that secure the torque converter to the flex plate??

Apart from that I go with the linkage having fallen off..

If all else fails, go have a

the fliters may need replacing. blocked fliters dont make the car go anywhere.

i have had it happen to me. driving along then, stop. park up. call AA then towie.

take the offer above...good deal

dont mess around if theres no gears like wat happened to mine i had it diagnosed as no forward clutches i had reverse tho so i did a gearbox swap and all good

when you do swap myt as well go manual i regret replacing the auto box as im actually saving now to do a manual swap when this box blows

just make it manual wish id have taken these guys advise on that but i desperately needed it back on the road for work so yea borrow a car or use another and do a manual swap

cheers

If my torque converter was dry or stuffed, would that stop me getting any drive in foward and reverse? Thanks.

Yeah, it was off, but went back on fine, and all bolted back to the ring gear plate, but have no drive.

well if fluid levels ok,selector linkages are fine, checks to valve body and pressure regulator and fluid pressures will be needed. Maybe double check everything , fluid lines, selector, etc, assuming it was drivable before engine swap?

NEW BOX

which is why i say dont replace or repair just go MANUAL

thats the way im going with mine and this is its second auto gearbox

aching for manual and i reckon money and time well spent in that direction and not the one i chose before(auto replacement)

good luck :mosh:

Good luck, exactly which box am I looking for, I know the 6's don't fit, but do all the getrag 240's go behind the M40, because the box behind the M10's is a 240 also isn't it? Thanks.
