sven007 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2006 Was driving on State Highway One coming into the Porirua region and coming up to the lights near Aotea Lagoon and was red and noticed a 2005 M5 right in front of me waiting for the lights to turn green. No one was in front of him to much of him enjoying where I was behind him in my e36 318is!! OK here is what happened...... I shoved mine into Sports Mode ( Auto ) and waited for the lights to turn green.. well before I knew it the bastard in the M5 was 200m in front of me and im still trying to get over 50km! The rich arsewhole most probably did a quarter mile in 12 seconds max. Moral of my story.. Unless you have $300,000 lying around to buy the M5, be smart and get an WRX sti... then you can give him a go for his money and can come out saying " My car is worth 1/10 of yours!" But it was nice Black and 19" deep dish mmmmmmmmm

SKT174 1 Report post Posted August 25, 2006 I don't think any standard EVO or STI can touch a M5 ... 0-60mph 0-100mph M5 4.6 9.8 STI 5.1 13.8 EVO 4.7 12.7 0-60 will be close but after that the M5's tail lights will get smaller and smaller Here's an interesting article of a F430 F1 vs M5
Gus 5 Report post Posted August 25, 2006 i would be mildly worried if a M5 was remotely close to being on the same piece of road as an e36 318iS if it was trying!
E30stz 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2006 so your comparing the new price of a M5 with the 2nd hand price of a WRX .. nice one. New WRX's arent $30,000.

hybrid 1043 Report post Posted August 26, 2006 I don't think any standard EVO or STI can touch a M5 ... A standard e46 330 is more or less neck and neck with an a 'standard' Evo or Sti 3 they are not even in the same class. An M5 will give a 996 run for its money. sven007 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2006 yeah but for the price a sti v4 ant bad.. Anything else thats 4 door besides a evo 4 for around $11000 - $16000. Was working today ( retail ) and sold a Sony bravia to a customer who paid in cash ( Means they are financially well) instead of HP and helped him take his home theatre system to the car and as I walked behind him I noticed an M3 e36 parked in the direction we were walking.. Turned out it was his and he is selling it. Asked the price and realised I would be working in retail 7 days a week to buy it. Nice guy tho but his missus wants him to get rid of it as the "family" is coming along and go and buy a HSV.. Seems that he has money for jam as I asked what other cars he had... and envy glowed in my eyes.. great guy tho, non-cocky, still trying to get get products for as low as possible! I wasn't talking about the BMW FTW part, I agree there (wouldn't be in this forum otherwise).Saying "buuut - then you're driving a Subaru!! Why would any sane person do that??" is rediculous, to generalise an entire manufacturer like that without giving a reason is stupid.

As the news so often reminds us, whether it be subarus or terrorists, generalizations are ALWAYS right! Personally, though, I'd buy a Lotus, or wait for the M version of the Z4/coupe. I, like Clarkson, have no time for i-Drive and flappy paddles.
sven007 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2006 yeah as someone stated about mechanical failure. There are many Sti's on trademe that have been re-conditioned lol. meaning basically they have been thashed and will not last more then 20,000km after you have brought it. Evo 4 may be the way I go but then comparing a jap with a euro is like comparing Budget cola to Coke, or a Volta vacuum cleaner to a dyson lol

StylesM5 0 Report post Posted August 28, 2006 true 250 KW AND practical and sigh .....unbeatable combinationI think the touring of both the E34 and E34 and come to think of it E60 look better than the sedan. Just picture, 35-40 year old blonde MILF in an E60 545i Touring with a Golden Retreiver or similar big dog in the back. Better than porn. Just gotta find a way of avoiding the rich husband. sven007 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2006 Where would I go for a mechanical warranty and on average how much do they cost per year? Cheers
Jazzbass 1 Report post Posted August 29, 2006 Ask at any car sales yard - they'll point you in some direction. I heard its about $250-300 a year?? The last three cars I've bought all came with 3 years mechanical warranty as a sweetener. I never needed them. NZ Consumer does not recommend these warranties at all. LemonHunter 583 Report post Posted August 29, 2006 Some of you guys need to do some reading before you start trashing other Car brands; Im not saying im a Subaru fan, But it looks like you guys could do with some facts; http://www.ukintpress.com/engineoftheyear/winners/2_25.html Read that and have a little cry. BMW came in second. The reason subaru motors pop for all the little Kiddies is the Kiddies wind up the boost, and drive it like they stole it day in day out with power in excess of that the manufacturer intended. This clearly is not possible with a N/A BMW, however, i am to understand that Turboing BMW N/A Engines is not always a pretty affair? And i suspect that even a BMW Turbo Factory engine (With the exception of the M12/13) WOuld soon come to a short demise were you to wind the boost up and thrash it. What they cover is VERY little, and getting money out of them is like squeezing blood from a stone. For example, cam belt/chain failuure, not covered, in fact, any belt failing, not covered, so if you happen to have a car with a belt drive water/oil pump, no claim. And thats just the start.
