got this car about 2.5 years ago .

from turners damaged auction , was a car that got car jacked . had no wheels ,no stereo and no keys .

sorted locks , wheels out from a donar smashed 535i i had .

picked it up for about $2k .

done 140000km , black leather , sth african built , has leather glovebox centre console , and under dash panels .

long range tank ,

has been sitting in my back yard and a freinds since then , only done about 2000km in since i had it .

so i am slowing doing it up , i have had the Hartge body kit fitted and painted (came from my other grey e34) just got it back from the painters ,tow bar fitted , also have had some suspension work done . new bilsteins , lowerd M&B springs , also replaced some bushes etc .

have fitted some reacro front sport seats to it from a e32 ( have yet to get them re dyed black) .

just finished putting back together my rebuilt hartge engine that was pulled from the grey car .( high compression pistons , valve job, new bearings , rings , gasgets etc )

also new clutch , modified auto driveshaft etc . have 3.64 lsd diff to go in to replace the std one .

just need to sort out brakes now (probably go bigger from v8 or v12 bmw )

fitted a good stereo set up in it ( radio tape and cd changer), some parts from a my grey car and some original type speakers etc .3 way up front 2 way at the rear , a amps one 4chanel for the front and rear and 1 just for the sub , with electronic crossovers etc

engine and manual box go in this week with any luck .

Nice wee project. Just one comment - the boot is probably a little large an enclosure for that sub. You'd be better off puilding an MDF partition with a volume calculated from the subs thiele small paramters. Better yet, a properly sealed box. You could still have the sub firing through the ski hole, and you could carpet the visible side of the enclosure to appear as a fake rear wall - stealth styles.

yes i used to have a sub box , i made for a commodore i used to own , i fitted perfectly in the bmw as well , was the width of the front of the boot and had a angle front face to match the back of the seat . but i had to remove it to gain more boot space for family stuff etc.

still sounds great .

have a full alpine crossover unit tunned it up well .

nice tight bass and full clean mids and highs .

here are some pics of the old set up etc . from the old e34 grey 535i .

basically the same as before just tidier wiring etc .

Brave man!

Build cost?

a bit . $1k for paint /body kit fitted etc .body kit came with grey car . have repairs doen to front and rear aprons etc .

$2250 for car .

wheels from previous e34 $800 .

seats from european autospares swap for some e23/e28 headlights etc value $300 .

$1600 for shocks /bushes , arms etc . $60 for springs (trade me)

$1.1k for gasgets bearings etc .

$$$$ dont know yet for engineers work on engine fitting pistons rings , bearings, honning ,decked the block ,surfaced head , valve job .etc .I did the final assembly .

stereo gear , mostly from other cars , brought bits over the years , and also some parts form spare cars i have stripped .

steering wheel from TM $90.

too much . a few bits from my wrecked cars have gone it to this car , just to make it look or work better etc .

have got the engine and gearbox ready to go in the car now .

maybe pull the current engine and trans out tuesday night .( seems silly pulling out a perfectly good engine and auto ) only done 140000km
