The "new" 1996 328i that I bought 2 days ago, and I hope I can do a manual conversion on it in the very near future. Been talking with Jono from auto 38 in Newtown...very helpful, but he did say that it's hard to get hold of a ZF gearbox. So fingers crossed...

Finally fitted some nicer wheels to my e39, looks a bit too high now even though it's MSport suspension...might give autolign a call...

Not much of an update but New turbo arrived yesterday. Not hugely different, Holset HX35 (right) with a 16cm exhaust housing and 7 blade inducer (hx40 had 8). Noticeably smaller and lighter, should see full boost a few hundred rpm sooner than the hx40. The hx40 has already sold for the same price I got the hx35 for, nice Garage guy came around, sadly from when you say "go" to the building being ready is about 3 months minimum (I hope to be busy with the airforce by then). Oh, and it looks like there's a water main running directly under where we would like the garage to be, which is a problem... Still waiting on an engineers report. In other news, rest of the rod bearings arrived so this engine can begin to be put together. Still dreading wiring this ECU...

Maybe worth taking out an MBI policy, just for peace of mind.

For the coin if i was in the market and given it appears to be an enthusiast owner i'd expect a preventive maintenance history vs an as needed maintenance history.

5+ years later, an Update!! Last year I managed to pick up a mostly complete M30 conversion package from another E30 enthusiast. After having much difficulty getting engine management sorted few years earlier, I sold on the b28 and turbo gear. M30B35 I picked up was in pieces so decided the refresh as much budget allowed. I kept the bottom end together, cleaned up the sump, block and had the head checked over. New gaskets, seals and headbolts. New water pump, thermostat…etc Couple pictures: Removed M20b25 and trans from car over the weekend, relatively painless process. Left the loom intact for now, but will likely remove as the wiring was pillaged during my megasquirt episode. Unfortunately hoist tipped and damaged drivers guard - after removing the engine without issue! Cracking into cleaning and removing anything unnecessary from the engine bay and prepping for respray this weekend. Also ditching the power steering in favor of a manual rack, didn’t mind it in my old M325i so happy to do this now. More updates to come!
