  1. Hey Paul, latest TBMW mag just arrived and they have a good buyers guide/faults for the E39 V8 cars.Shall i scan & post later or do you want to look at buying the mag from your local bookstore?

Total BMW July issue, also has a fantastic rundown on the E34,' Defining Moment', covers, 3.6 M5/3.8 M5/ 535i sport/540i/525i sport/ M5 Touring. (sorry for the change of thread, thought worth mentioning here)

  2. so what's happened to the old twin airbags rule then ?

That rule still applies, this is about overseas residents, kiwis coming home etc, like i said in the earlier post, go to the section How do i apply to have my NON COMPLIANT vehicle .............

  3. Yip, just replaced with straight pipes.

Any of the dreaded drone at moderate speed Ian? Another trick i was told was to open up the rear muffler, take out the tangled web of coiled pipe, weld straight thru pipes, fill with steel wool for sound proofing etc, anyone tried this???

  4. I understand the economics of it all. But traction control is not a substitute, I have driven lots of Holden’s with 250+kw and found them to be great, no loss of traction and no annoying traction control kicking in to make the driver head but the steering wheel on take off due to too much power overwhelming one wheel.

Went for an awesome drive through Hunua on the weekend and ended up very frustrated with the TC killing the fun every time I powered out of a corner so I turned it off and the car just kept spinning one wheel slowing progress and wasting tire.

If Holden and most of the Japanese companies can afford to fit LSD on cars costing half as much why can’t BMW? I can only imagine how gay a 335i would be to drive.

At least throw them on the Motorsport cars.

A lot of the overseas mags complain during testing the very thing you speak of Graham, TC killing the fun, switch it off & you have the one wheel spinning etc etc. You would think on high a power (& price) M545i they would include LSD.

  5. Oh gosh here we go again

I get better figures than the autos. Anywhere from 11 - 13ish l/100km city depending on how hard i thump it and 8ish to 12ish open road depending on hills and how late I am. I think my overall average from the OBC for since about the beginning of the year is 11.7l/100km. That's 70/30 city/highway and including some of the infamous Hawkes Bay backroad blats, to, from and including Taupo track training

Oh and I had an E34 535 before this and wouldn't go back ;)

    Cheers

    Si

    94 E34 540i/6

4ltr twin cam v8 vs 3.4ltr 2 valve, no comparison, no wonder you wouldn't go back!

M30 is from the old days Simon, harks back to the old 3.0csl days, now belongs in a museum like its owner!

    Rugged old school.

  6. Overall consumption will be lower on the M60 V8 compared to the M30, hard to get good fuel economy from the M30 in a heavy E34 shell. The E28 does better( so i was told) due to it's lightweight.

If you start looking at the V8, get it checked out. Nikasil vs Alusil block issues.

  7. It's nice, but hard to see him getting that much for it. Anything over $30k would be hard to get.

And anyway, THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS AN 840CSi. There is only one CSi, it has a 5.6L V12 and I have one :D

Think i read the McLaren F1 car (6.1ltr ) has the same block casting as your csi, obviously changed bore/stroke.

That 6.1ltr would have to be the most powerful LARGE CAPACITY N/A engine around, thanks Paul Rosche!!
