  1. also on piston heads for around the same money is a e 39 m5 with a couple mods to reduce weight...is that our reference do you think??ie e39 M5 money?

I don't think so. The E39 is more practical for daily driver, the 850csi was a limited edition( very rare numbers) run to give credibility to the failed E31 range. It's low volume makes it worth something, who knows what it is worth in NZ.

When money changes hands then we will know, money talks, bullshit walks.

  2. Hi Glenn, there is one 850csi in the UK for sale, 1994 done 100,000 miles, asking 16,750 pounds.

Apparently it was the BMW press car, orient blue, fully loaded etc.

The one that just sold on Pistonheads must have been a bargain @ 11,000 pounds. (the one i posted on this thread)

  3. The owner has gone back to Hong Kong. We are doing the WOF repairs and have sorted the rego issues out. Then there are a couple of other small issues that need to be attended to then it will be offered for sale. Because of the rarity, we might offer it off shore as well. I am sure this would be one of the best examples in the world let alone in NZ

    Yes, very low k's.

  4. Is this a genuine csi like Brads? If so worth something, post the chassis number.

Should be 6 speed & 5.6ltr with M on the engine.

Edit: Tell your friend if he accepts any cars for property the car must be valued low.(50% of retail)

Otherwise why would you bother taking a possible pile of old junk for REAL ESTATE.

  5. If your ECU has a PROM( plastic case chip/no erase window) you just need to fit an EPROM (has glass window) and get it reprogrammed by an engine tuner, if he hasn't done your particular car before the tuning can take quite a few hrs & $$$.

Before you spend the money, ask the tuner first, has he done your type of car & if so what gains/potential does it have. Some stock cars have minimal gains for the buck, in otherwords you would notice sfa.

I understand the best gain for your car is the bigger throttle body, bigger intake manifold, then rolling road tune.

Supposed to give up to 220hp with all this work.

I posted a E36 article some months ago in general discussion, look this up & have a good read on the tuning section.

  6. I was just looking on TM and there's a '96 540i with an original sale price of $157K! Now going for $12k. So that means its lost $145K over 12 years or $12 000 per year - ouch...

Anyway does anyone know how to find out NZ sale price of our cars when they were new??

That's why there is NO money in cars, for 157k in 96 you could have bought 2 x 1brm b/t flats, today they would be worth 400k.Whats more, you would have bought the flats with a small deposit & borrowed the rest.Say the deposit was 50k of your own money, you would have turned that 50k into 400k, 350k profit, tax free.Need i say more.

    Back in 1989 when i was buying new/ish, E34 525i 100k, 12mths old 85k, new 535ise 135k, sport (is) was maybe 10k more?

  7. Thats why i said the Alpina isn't that powerful Brent, my stock engine running BP 98/ no AFM peaked at 137 kw

stock pwr was 123 kw running properly.(old stk pwr down due to faulty AFM top end AFR setting etc, dyno dynamics shoot out)

The power all comes from tuning an engine properly.Waste of time working an M30 for N/A, it's a perfect turbo engine.

    .

  8. i wouldnt know what a stock one would look like Boris :/

Are you saying alpina were modest or ?Not?I would think the higher compression with a chip would actually make the m30 quite a bit more fuel efficient(if you didnt use the right foot more)

Have a look on trademe, there is a m30 head for sale. All i can tell you is that during testing the Alpina B10 was quicker than a 535i & only used 1.5 mpg more.

  9. Did Alpina/Hertge etc have a high compression version of the M30 in the B10 etc?If so how did they do it?

Alpina fitted lightweight Mahle crowned pistons, they reshaped the head to hemispherical combustion chambers + all the other mods.

Compare the head combustion shape in the pix below to a stock head & you will see the diff, i don't believe the power figures Alpina quoted back then either.(put one on a dyno & you will be surprised)
