Heaps, thanks. Did a quick google also (silly me). So who tunes your car?
This top end was done by Auckland Performance Tuning.(Papakura)
Tuning is more than numbers, has to drive properly after tuning.

Thanks Ian, you piggyback 7 wires (give or take)on to the existing ECU (remove my old flap air flow meter), you plug in a laptop into Map-Ecu port, you then alter fueling/timing to your engine, basically you are intercepting values to your stock ecu.You have real time engine tuning available to you, should only be done by qualified engine tuner. The one comment the tuner made was the BMW M30 seemed resistant to any knocking whatsoever, excellent combustion chamber design combined with low 9.0:1 compression + 98 fuel.Thats impressive, good job. How exactly do you do this map-ecu etc. I remember you bringing it up once before, but i'm still a little puzzled. Does it reprogram existing ecu or what?
Regards,
Ian.
You can add more fuel, take out fuel, advance or retard the ignition timing.Does this help?

Hi Guys, Map-Ecu did further development tuning on my M30 engine.
Made impressive gains in power thru more precise tuning.
RESULTS ARE FROM DYNO DYNAMICS ROLLER DYNO.
STOCK ENGINE: 123.5kw BP ULTIMATE 98 FUEL
MAP-ECU 2 (no AFM) 137.0kw BP ULTIMATE 98 FUEL ( existing map tune yielded 128.5kw)
PEAK POWER GAIN: 13.5kw
137kw IS A FANTASTIC POWER OUTPUT ON A ROLLER DYNO FOR A STOCK M30 ENGINE.
:D
THE ENGINE/EXHAUST IS COMPLETELY STOCK DOWN TO THE PAPER FILTER

Nice retro styling, i'm pretty sure Alpina pulled out the M5/5ltr V8 & dropped in their 4.8ltr M62 engine.
Very strange thing to do, less pwr, bit more torque. Maybe they couldn't afford to do anything to the M engine, still seems a bit pointless????

I posted this E21 article a while ago, have a read if you missed it.

The problem with your wish list is power, 250-300 hp is a lot from N/A. Costs $$$, + the rest of drive train has to support this power.
M3 2.5 ltr BMW Motorsport Race Engine, NICE! pure racing history,
NOTE the SLIDER throttle plate for min obstruction @ full throttle.

NO TURBO/STAY BMW POWER/250-300HP??????MMMmmmhey guys just after some info on what you think the best thing to transplant into a e21 is.
looking at buying a e21 soon and would love 250-300hp out of it. dont want anything turbo and want to stay BMW powered..
wont want to spend over 10k but are interested in all the options....
cheers guys!

STOCK MODERN 6 cyl, NOT ENOUGH POWER
STOCK M 6 cyl, POWER BUT COST.
ANSWER: ONLY STOCK BMW V8, ALL THE ENGINE DEVELOPMENT DONE FOR YOU COURTESY OF BMW DESIGN.
Alpina put one in the E36.

Thanks Guys, someone had to put a number up, didn't they?
See some of you tomorrow night at the BMWCC AGM I guess?
Be good to meet you then David, you are only a couple or three years ahead!

Alpina E34 Bi-Turbo
Alpina E30 B6s
Alpina E31 B12
Alpina E30 C2 2.7, coupe/Touring.

Make sure you find one that isn't wearing that set of clothes, honestly, look at the front.
Eyebrow indicators, exaggerated lower headlight curves, front 'bib' air dam corners fall away, the list goes on.
Amateur design trying to prove something.
My distaste for Bangle is well documented with BMW now.

Anyone else out there??
STILL NEED A COUPLE OF ORDERS GUYS, DOES ANYONE KNOW SOMEONE WITH AN E34 535I???
PLEASE APPROACH THEM.
REMEMBER THESE ARE 6 BRANCH STAINLESS STEEL HEADERS FOR THE M30 ENGINE, 530i or 535i.
SPECIALLY DESIGNED FOR RIGHT DRIVE E34.

Doug,
Should I kick the m5 into the street for this ????
Not when he also says 'starts & runs but smokey'
-
Hey mate. Nice ride, look forward to seeing it. Dylan
A quick flight to Aussie for viewing unfortunately.
-
um Lotus Carlton badass. Definitely in my top ten. Would settle for an E500
I'll take the Alpina Bi-Turbo over the other 2.
-
I like the way he said it was the fastest saloon in the world… He obviously hasn’t heard of the Lotus Carlton.
Nice looking car though, leather could use some shoe nugget and those wheels would be going in the shed if it was mine.
Lotus Carlton, now you are talking Graham. I still have the Mag article where they compared a trio from memory, Lotus Carlton, E34 Alpina BiTurbo, E500? There are some in depth articles on the net for Carlton engine work etc.

Welcome to Bimmersport!

I wouldn’t say that, it has a nice kit and is already lowered, first port of call for me wouyld be Trade-Me to hunt out some M3 wheels!
Or some 318i Sport wheels.
Im not sure if anyone remembers but BMW-NZ has a 318i near the end of the E36’s production run, it features a M3 kit and some nice multi spoked wheels. I remember driving one new and it was a nice little car. Was dark peppermint greenish colour.
That what our 318is was Graham, end of the run M3 kitted, 17" multispoke alloys, twin cam M44 engine.
-
Na, didn't mean it's a girls car at all, she has sorta taken it as hers. The 4 door M kitted version looks good especially with the M black leather interior incl stitched leather door cards.Hy mate thanks, ya its got the black leather which is pretty much like new. haha ya it is a little bit like a girls car but i intend to change that with yours guys help
cheers

Welcome to Bimmersport, nice E36 4 door, black leather interior??
We have a Boston Green version,(sorta gave it to the daughter) the last facelift 4 door saloon look pretty good.
-
I'll buy the Touring! The cheapest option Graham is drop in a used 2.5ltr.
-
No luck finding M-Tec 2 wheel, or did the price frighten you?
-
Need deep pockets to repair/run that baby! The only decent 8 series was the CSi, the M8 without marketing approval.

I like the idea. But its like that E34 M5, its never going to be a real M3.
+1
Be patient & find your real dream M3.

You probably don't need to fit a Map-Ecu 2,(maybe Map1, no timing adj) you could get the ECU reprogrammed while on dyno (re-flash existing chip)The cost is the hours upon hours of tuning a V8 on the dyno unless someone has already done one so they have good new mapping to start with.
I'm not sure there are huge gains to be made in your 4ltr V8, it already is very powerful & uses a hotwire airflow meter. There would be some HP gain but who knows how much, you would have to ask around who has done one and what gains did they get.
