  1. Thanks Cain, do you know where you can buy the Mintex in Wellington?
  2. Started the car this morning and the Check Engine (DSC) light was on plus Brake and ABS lights, also speedo and energy control didn't work, so I'm picking it's time for some new Rotors and Brake Pads unless anyone knows of another problem this may be indicating. Are their any recommendations on replacement Rotors and Pads and do we have any discount deal with a supplier ? In advance thanks. Pete

    Christmas

All the best for Xmas to everyone.
  5. Au revoir Jochen, thanks for the help. There is no reason not to stay on this forum just because you are in Europe. You could start a business sourcing used radios and nav drives for E39's off the euro ebay. See ya Pete

  7. Haven't met you Jock but I have been keeping up with your diary, my thoughts are with you and your very loving family, enjoy each moment. All the best Pete
  8. BP works Shell doesn't, a real pain
  9. Sorry can't do as they will not fit, courier maybe the best bet
  10. I may be heading that way but not too sure where I would put them, how many?, just wheels or tyres too?
  11. The unfortunate thing is a lot of people do fall for these and some of them are quite intelligent, greed is a strange thing.
  12. They shortcut their QA cycle to get their updated product to market and are still getting rid of problems from original release.
  13. Interesting All fixed - it was a problem with the rear window stop light socket which needed to be replaced. The interesting part is (as I was advised by the experts) if there is a severe problem with stop lights which will result in them not working, the cars electronics defaults the status to on-always as a safety precaution. We live and learn
  14. Thanks Jochen, this is the complete story so far, in case something in the process may have caused this:- - Initially the "check brake light" started showing but the brake lights were working. - then all of the brake lights stopped working, "check brake light" message still showing - changed 2 lower bulbs and fuse 41 no change - fitted new switch, no change, lights still not working - went to an auto electrician, he played around with switch with an amp/volt meter and the lights started working with key on, didn't work with key off, depressing brake pedal made no difference with key on or off - unfortunately he had no BMW manuals, so advised me to go to BMW and suggest to them the brake relay may be stuck, they weren't interested in having a quick look and suggested I book it in for a service - swapped old switch back in, same results as with the new switch, so something has changed - went for a drive, tried cruise control, turns on but won't set and hold speed, probably because it thinks the brake is being pressed PS - wife ran the battery flat about a month ago, not sure if this is relevant. Regards Huttey
  15. Well I got a new brake light switch, installed it and now my brake lights are on all the time when the key is on (whether my foot is on the brake pedal or not), the brake lights are not on when the key is off. Can someone advise where the brake light relay is on an Auto 1999 E39 540 ? Regards Huttey
  16. Thanks I will try this out and let you know how I get on Regards Pete
  17. 1999 E39 540 - My brake lights are not working, bulbs are o/k, fuse is o/k, so it appears it is either the wiring or the brake light switch. Can anyone advise exactly where the brake light switch is and how you can test it. In advance thanks Huttey
  18. Sounds good, I will check out with the mechnic that an 85 will fit o/k and come back to you.
  19. How much are you after for the manifold?
  20. Has anyone got an E30 Inlet Manifold for an 86 320i that they would like to sell. Also after a window washer pump. Regards Huttey
  21. You could try this Removal of the front is really easy, I found the best way was to lift the middle of the old sill cover up about 1.5 inches and then slide the whole sill cover towards the back of the car. This will remove the sill cover and leave the old clips in place. To remove the old clips I used two flat blade screwdrivers and some cloth to protect the bodywork, I used the two screwdrivers under each side of the clip and pryed it out, pushing against the cloth placed on the bodywork, they come out easily. The rears were a bit more difficult, I found it hard to slide them out, you need to lift the 'B pillar side' as well as part of the middle of the sill cover, in the end I used the two screwdrivers to pyre out the sill cover and the clips. I damaged the clip housing on the old sill cover , but the clips themselves were ok, they are tough little things. I found it here in post #10 http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95970
