You can try this Mark I • Set ignition to pos. II • enter TV mode • enter "settings" • enter "contrast" • when the green contrast bar is visible, push the knob and keep it pressed • turn ignition off (keep button pressed!) • wait 8-10 seconds (timing must be accurate!) • release the knob • turn on ignition again • Now you can watch TV during driving (but always keep at least one eye on the road - that said) To watch videotext use the same procedure as above, but choose "brightness" instead of "contrast". Auto not sure, is there anyway of determining whether stock/sports? 17" staggered Good condition, 1 yr od - Front 235/45 R17 97W, Back 255/40 R17 97W Probably like a 320, I just want to get rid of this impending feeling of doom if I were to tap the accelerator a little bit more. Less body roll and reduce the feeling that the tail is about to go past me.

First of all I am a novice, so I am after all the help I can get and after reading the threads on this informative forum I thought I would ask the experts. I am looking at what reasonably priced mods/upgrades I can do to a 1999 E39 540 to improve the general ride, primarily in the steering area. I don't know if this is unique to my car but when cornering at reasonable but not too fast pace there is a feeling that the car is about to let go, could be me could be the car. Hope this makes sense, anyway I look forward to your recommendations.

I understand the std factory Non DSP AMP has individual output channels to each of the 10 speakers in my car, does anyone know what the output frequency response settings for each of these channels are and whether they are changeable?
-
Have a look at the following link, I tried it on my E39 Transmission Reset Changes are much more responsive and smoother, both up and down. Did my MAF and air cleaner at the same time so that could contribute as well. Easy trick so nothing to loose.

after having driven my 99 540 for the last 6 months and thoroughly enjoyed it I would love to have an M5 to play with.

Jochen, when I use the remote infrared keylock to lock my 99 E39 there is no noise or light flash, if you find out how to turn this on I would be interested in knowing -
