  1. Fixed!!! Once again this site proves it's worth. Traced it to faulty earth to that bulb. Got a bit of wire touched the earth on the bulb and connected the other end to a known earth.....it worked. So instead of tracing where the break might be, Ijust connected a spare bit of wire from the bulb to an earth source and zipped the patient back up. Done. Thanks to everyone again, much appreciated.
  2. Reliving a bit of e30 80s nostalgia. Removed everything from car that is not bmw factory related. Out goes acs pinstripes, acs grille badge , modern head unit, eyelids, dash dial chrome surrounds, black kidney grille. In comes 15" weaves, is lip, mtech1 boot spoiler, 1988 alpine 7167 head unit, mtech1 steering wheel, chrome kidney grille..........and to top it off, a selection of mid 80s cassettes........yes I was an 80s teen........call it a sickness or mid life crisis....lol is now all original bar the e30 series suspension, looks cool and 80s tastic.
  3. And the winner for bodge job the year goes to........ Might actually consider that. Cheers
  4. Thanks guys. All good points. It does make you wonder if I went somewhere different would I get a different result. Where do you guys go? Mainstream places like vtnz or dealers. Or to a private garage. Or local "mate" mechanic. I'm sure we have all been there. Especially with our older vehicles.Where you think something is marginal and you might be able to fudge it through by going somewhere different than if you had a near new car.
  5. One thing I found interesting about the 320is was that the coupe came standard with 14" weaves not the 15s that nz m325i came with or the 16s on the m3. And even then the 14s were only options on the 4 door version which came with bog standard alloys. Even so, very cool car.
  6. Bump. Antileet lead ran cold. Also noted he has not logged on here since November last year. Soooo still looking.
  7. Well.....had the meter out, checked a few things. Still got me stumped. So frustrating that this is what keeps me off the road legally. Can anyone tell me if this ruling is correct. It is not a warning light but an advisory light. I know the indicators are going because of the relay sound. But the attitude was if it has a light then it has to work. Anyway the problem is above my knowledge so will probably have to take it to someone more qualified. :-(
  8. Good suggestion......in theory you could import one as a low volume special vehicle. Seen a couple for sale that were grey imported to the uk from Portugal.
  9. Here's a question......of all the e30 iterations and excepting the M3. Which is the most desirable and most likely to appreciate in the future. And we are talking original and unmodified. MSpec1 325i ? Wagon? Or maybe a cab? Which specs are most desirable as well (interior, options, colour etc) Get your opinions out........aaaaannnd........go
  10. I have had our e30 for 12 years now and still tinkering with it. One thing I have learned though is don't listen to people who say ooooo euro car, it'll be expensive and complicated to keep going.....rubbish......I have found it is one of the simplest cars to work on due to lack of complex modernism and the Germans were very logical in the way they put it together. Also parts are plentiful and cheap if you know where to look. Plus with more and more dropping off the radar, they will become rarer (as no more are entering the country) and a good classic car with a large following and a great support network both nationally and internationally.Start off with a reasonable one and you'll be happy for a long time. Although my caveat being ours isn't a daily so that factor may change everything I just said. Lol
  11. Cheers. Checked the bulb holder, took the back off the cluster and it looks to be all good just on a visual. There looks to be no corrosion or cracked solder joints. Of course I could be wrong.....time to get the meter across some circuits as suggested.
  12. Thanks for that. With my silly logic, if the stalk switches on the relay, then the stalk is ok. If the hazard switch is sending power to the relay/ right indicator light. Then the hazard switch is ok. And if the bulb works and is making a good connection, then that should be ok. My conclusion being it is either a break in the circuit in the cluster (worst case) or there is a fault between the relay and the cluster. What do people think.
  13. Yep you got it. Everything is working fine apart from the cluster flasher. Which peeves me that my car is not considered road worthy because of that.
  14. Funny how the silver one has the comment " surprised if you will find a better one"..........ummmm obviously hasn't seen the other one listed. To me that would be the pick of the 2. On another note there is a third for sale down here in dunners, alpineweiss left hooker. Soon someone could have an m6 for every day of the week.
  15. I am head scratching at the moment and wonder if someone could help. Went for a warrant and my beloved e30 failed on one thing. The little green indicator light on the dash for when turning left does not light up. Great I thought, easy fix....removed cluster, put in a known working bulb to see if that was the problem, but no. This is what I have come up with so far....turned on hazard switch, relay ticks, right light goes, left does not. Tried indicator stalk, relay in column ticks, both on left and right...right bulb goes, left does not. A couple of questions arise, if the relay is switching on and off (ticking) is that an indication that it is functioning properly. And if using indicator stalk and relay ticks is that an indication the stalk switch if functioning properly. Could it be a break in the circuit board somewhere or more likely a faulty/dirty switch........help appreciated. Would not like this to be the thing that keeps it from being warrantable, specially when the rest of the car is so good. cheers
  16. Cheers, have just messaged him. In the meantime........still looking.
  17. Gidday,

word is is you may have a pair of e30 cloth sport seats to sell. Wondering if rumours are correct. If so, let's talk. Looking for some for my project, and am in dunners.

    cheers

  18. A big ask I know. Good condition preferable. Fronts only needed.
  19. Guess what.......SOLD........... not 10 minutes ago. For the price asked. And yes, someone DID contact me and ask that. If you did not know the e30 world and saw the condition of it, maybe it would be a legitamate question.
  20. thanks for the input......like the description says, its my interpretation. just like some people might not like the ACS stuff, i personally dont like non period rubbish put on cars that look totally out of place, but the person owning that car might love it. Its all subjective. And like Graham says...the ACS pin strip and I S badge is easily removable if its not to somebodys taste. If you drove this car I think you would feel the price is justified...honestly with the suspension completely done it makes for a great comfy cruiser, and much more character and style than a jap car of similar price... and not everyone wants a balls out road burner..... oh and by the way, BMW did make a 320i s for portugal and italy in the 80's it was exactly the same spec as mine with 4 doors, mtech 1 spoiler, is front splitter and is badging, and 15" bbs basketweaves. the only thing different was it had the M3 motor (reduced to 2 litres), so to look at you could not tell the difference....which is what i was going for. Now if I could only find a 2.3 M3 donk and box and find a way to fit the impossible......hmmmmm. Then it would not be for sale. :-) cheers
  21. That would be my car........I think the price is reasonable, considering the gear that's on it and the condition it's in which is not a tired old e30 that's been thrashed within an inch of it's life and is now a worthless POS,which unfortunately or fortunately depended on how you look at it, is becoming more common. If someone broke it down for parts they would still win. Anyway...I have had good interest, I do realize that selling cars is about what the market is prepared to pay, not what you think it's worth, and I think the price I put on is a good starting point. Besides you will see that I have reduced the price to better reflect that market. And yes, it may not be a more popular 325 manual, or similar but it still has a place in the market. Cheers
  22. Good buy if you want a classic. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=833335275
  23. Just got my e30 (road car) back today with the e30 series suspenders fitted.....konis,springs,bushes,control arms, rack ends, tie rods...and all other sundry bits front and rear...and bugger me,it's like new car..got it set on full soft for round town and it rides remarkably well and on the open road it's in another league.....I really do recommend this as a to do for these wee cars......expensive,yes but well worth it....if you weigh up 3.5 k on a piece of crap japper or sorting your e30....I know which one I chose. Cheers
