Funnily enough the Palmerston North speedway is right in the middle of town, and there are no dramas because the council fully supports it.

Rather than complain, the neighbours embrace it as part of the character of the area. It's been there far longer than most residents.

From my experience over the last 3 months in Auckland there seems to be a large proportion of the population here who feel entitled, and want everything for nothing, and they are the ones making it an issue.

Also Manfeild in Feilding. Not aware of any issues there either.

  2. Yet again! This topic rears it's ugly head every couple of years it seems.

    Auckland Council - GET REAL!

Nearby residents - GET A LIFE! Western Springs was there before any current residents - they chose to buy/ live nearby & now cry about the "inconvenience" Diddims!

What next? Eden Park & the Zoo as well?

I do get it. But it is not a problem. As originally stated the intent in the law is to prevent you using a 'document to defraud' - in this case passing your vehicle off as someone else's, or something else, or preventing legal identification of the vehicle (e.g. at a speed or red light camera or a plate recognition equipped police vehicle).

As mentioned 6 months ago, I have been stopped for speeding, been stopped at drink drive checks points (where they always check Rego and warrant) and had warrants done at vtnz all with Euro plates on with Euro font and a Euro (D) as the logo. I have had zero problems. If you were that worried, carry the originals in the car with you -there are always times when you forgot to put the originals back on after a 'show evening'.

Note. Background reflector graphics are NOT mandated by law, neither is the font.

I suggest you don't "get it" Whether you deem it an issue or not is irelevent. They are illegal!  AND people are having them confiscated.

The fact you haven't is beside the point - obviously those you have come across are not aware of the issue. - As i said - it is a lucky dip.

^ then why are people fined $200 on the spot and "novelty" plates confiscated by police?

    Exactly!

Like i said, never had a problem in over 9 years on 3 different cars... and that's with the Euro D plate.

Here's a link to an NZ plate https://www.customeuropeanplates.com/new-zealand-european-license-plate-p-141.html?

You don't seem to get it. Regardless of how long you have had them, where you have been, how many times you have been stopped, or how many WOF'S you have had with them on the car, & all without incident. As mentioned above many times - they ARE illegal in NZ full stop!

The font is different, along with the background reflector graphics. Also mentioned above - there have been several people that have had them confiscated after they have been identified by Police that are aware of them. It is simply a lucky dip!

  5. The video module (TV) OR the Nav unit controls screen graphics. If there is no Nav unit - it requires the video module for graphics. If there is both - the Nav unit overides the vm. It requires one or other or both.

Has it still got the Jap radio tuner? If it has been changed for a Euro version, this will corrupt the Jap Nav unit for graphics.

Otherwise possibly a faulty Jap Nav unit. It does not require a disc for it to control graphics.

  6. Yes, as you say Graham, it is a localised NZ option but they have always been known as M325i here & rightly so with the spec they have. Also to your list - sports seats.

They have always (in recent years anyway) had a proportional excess value over a standard 325i & because of the recent E30 tax. these have gone up proportionally, 5k over priced - who knows...

I have seen 2 others in recent times, the $38k Christchurch car that ended up in Te Awamutu, Spectacular car, but not without fault, not sure on purchase price but was north of 30k. Also another original car that was bought for $20 something, again very nice car but not perfect.

The said car on TM now has been on the market for a while now though.

  7. As above - I very much doubt the warrenty will cover all six, and in normal situations one coil & labour would be less than the excess of the policy. Haven't priced them from BMW but our parts suppliers have OEM versions (Bremi, Delphi etc) at realistic prices, albeit not as cheap as quoted above from FCP

From experience at work, once the owner has a warranty - the dealers pass them onto the warranty outfit. Obviously a pre existing fault is different.

That is probably a very late E39 - the earlier ones I'm fairly sure were japanese OR rest of world, I think they changed in 2002 or 2003... but don't take that as gospel!

Sept 01 they came with world tuners, similar time for E46. Pre this they had either Euro/rest of world, Jap or USA specific tuners.

Later cars - E60 etc were back to their destination market & more involved to try & change

Apologies in advance if pictures are large, uploading from phone

    12v to antenna confirmed.

    continuity across aerial is fine.

I understand the grey feed from the c pillar is the main antenna feed? Where’s its home? And I feel like this plug end been changed?? Have few connections around without a male plug too, never looked at my old E39s this closely so no idea if that’s standard.

The lead in your fingers has a standard aerial plug - not original. Is yours ex Japan & had a band expander fitted?

The male part is probably an adapter, it should pull out of the black base. That lead should then attach to the socket in the radio tuner to the left.

Edit: it would have been adapted to suit the Dynavin
