  1. Agreed. I'll probably get some Motul RBF or Castrol SRF for the next track day. I thought brake fluid would be the last of my issues on the track and that pads would be my no1 enemy. Not bad for standard pads to withstand the abuse.
  2. Car is an E36 328i. Last brake fluid change was in July with standard BMW fluid. I went flat out from Lap 5 after learning the lines. As much as I'd like to upgrade the brakes, I'm currently half-hearted about continuing to track this car vs purchasing a type R and caging it and doing the whole works. there were 2 type R's on the track and they lapped an M3 CSL and a supercharged Holden with 380wkw. They would've passed the GT3 too but it was too quick on the straights. Transmission is still sweet. Sports mode is pretty useless in the E36. Refused to downshift coming out of the corners so I was pretty slow being stuck in 3rd. Tires are fine amazingly. I expected chunks of rubber left on the track but I guess 41psi held up.
  3. Meh. 10 laps around the new A1 GP circuit and my brakes are kinda mushy. Rotors are in good nick and pads are still good, so what gives? BTW, the track is in primo condition. Managed to hit 175km/h on the back straight and braking 75m before the chicanes. The auto sucks balls for track days tho so I suppose a manual conversion is going to be needed before the next one Cheers.
  4. 2 pipes of mild steel at pitstop = $80 incl labour and GST. I think the M3 size is slightly larger but it shouldn't be much more. I'd say do it as its cheap and very effective in terms of opening more HP. Car pulls a lot stronger at low revs and feels very very happy to go all the way to the redline.. much like a Honda. (*oops)
  5. I've used a Stealshield, Uniden, Dynatron and AVS. I'm currently using a Dynatron 7600 4 star alarm. Installed at Mobile Alarm specialist in Hamilton and they did a FANTASTIC install. You'd have to strip the car to find the unit. Anyway, Stay away from the Uniden and the Stealshield. The Uniden was too sensitive and used to go off when trucks rumble through or if the neighbour slammed his car door! And this was after the sensitivity being turned down real low. The Stealshield was loud and was quite annoying if you started the car after it immobilised as that set off the alarm (like right after you've jumped in the car after pumping some petrol!). The range of the remote was quite useless as you had to stand right next to the wing mirror. The Dynatron is very good. I got them to turn off the chirps and it just locks now with the lights flashing. No chirps = no guess as to what is installed. Also immobilises after 30 seconds but it has a sensor that detects the remote so when you start the car, it de-immobilises immediately and off you go. No need to hit the button again. AVS S4; good install. 2x attempted break-ins on Wakefield St Auckland and all they got was broken glass. This was my Accord. No auto-magic de-immobiliser however that's why I opted for the Dynatron. GEt a good installer. Makes a shitload of difference between broken glass and no car. Cheers.

    KYB Shocks

Pay the money and get some Bilsteins. handling is much sharper. rebuildable and worth every cent.
  7. I got my cats taken off last week at pitstop. The left exhaust is smaller than the right... WHY? it was about 5mm difference in diameter and the pitstop guy thought that it was pretty weird. Anyway, I couldn't be bothered with a reso and went with straight pipes. Sounds more mechanical and raspy but car feels more rev-happy and torquier at lower revs.
  8. http://www.filecabi.net/video/billyscamera.html found this link at NZhondas. Classy.
  9. --> QUOTE(John B @ Nov 18 2006, 12:58 AM) 100446[/snapback] Hi All, Maybe this topic has been discussed previously in the forum, but if it has I must have missed it. Has anyone in NZ tried fitting either the 4.4 or 4.5 litre BMW V8 into an E46 Coupe? We're looking at the possibility of building an M3 GTR clone for Targa and circuit racing, and would be interested in talking to anyone who has already completed this transplant. We already have the E46, the body panels, and engine ready for the project, and have more or less decided upon all the major mechanical components, but are still very open to ideas and suggestions. Appreciate your feedback. Cheers! I believe someone in the states is close to completion with a 4.4L into an E36. http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showt...p;highlight=344 Good luck. I'd love to see this
  10. I'VE SEEN IT!!! Needs $2500 worth of work as estimated by Coombes Johnston BMW Hamilton. Dealer will do most of it minus replacing the pixel board. He still wants $25K for the car. Paintwork is MINT. Interior is very very very well looked after for the mileage. Engine looks tidy but needs a few new gaskets. He offered me $12K for my 328i. So tempted now. Might pay to pull out the bilsteins and trade it instead with the original shocks and springs. Will mull over it during the weekend.
  11. It looks horny tho. I mean my peter became a compass pointing north when I saw that car.
  12. http://sherwoodautos.co.nz/details.asp?vehicle_id=325488 I'd hit that if the mileage was lower.
  13. What about an E39 540i? There are a few around for about $20K. That E34 Cain is selling looks sick tho.
  14. I've been varying my pressures and for 225/40/18, 41 is just about right. I've been down to 38psi but it didn't feel right going into the corners. so far I can't see any wear issues but I'll be rotating them soon and checking for premature tire wear in the centre. I think that the reason I need such high pressures is because the Toyo's I have probably have a very soft sidewall (known issue with toyos).
  15. I just went to Whakatane via the Kaimais and back via Rotorua (Ngongotaha). 4.3hrs and 415kms of driving. Still have half tank left What tire pressures are you guys using tho? I'm at 41psi all round which is probably helping.
  16. sorry for bumping old thread. Drive to Northland in a 328i auto. Total distance = 1194 kms Petrol used = 107.5L Fuel consumption = 9L/100km or 31mpg I think it could be better but I wasn't nannying the right foot. Usual city consumption = 13.5L/100km

    road trip

We stopped there but after a massive buffet breakfast in Auckland a few hours earlier.. there was no way we could eat anymore so we pushed on. Now that I know where it is

    road trip

WOW! Northland has some freaking wicked roads. Best drive has probably got to be from Omapere to Dargaville through the forest. No cars or f**king annoying campervans.. just tight twisty bits with no chance of ever being over the 100km/h speed limit unless you are a moron. The drive to Mangawhai heads was pretty cool and so too Mangamukas but the roads were poor and I kept bottoming out the left rearside for some reason so wasn't really pushing it. Car is filthy on the outside after taking it to the Cape. Cool drifty action there. BTW, if anyone is going up there during summer, stay at Ahipara and do the Tua Tua Tours. MAD FUN. 3hrs of insane quad biking through sand dunes and old Kauri forests. Never done it before and thoroughly recommend it. Too bad the drive back today was sh*t. From Kaiwaka all the way through to Orewa we were doing 30km/h cos some dipshit couldn't climb the hills. And from Ngaruwahia to Hamilton.. some old fart in a Hyundai who kept at 60km/h and left a trail of cars behind him causing at least 4 stupid overtaking manoeuvres. Gah. anyway, left rear wheel is coming off tomorrow to see if its the inner guards that's rubbing or if I need to raise it just a wee bit. She needs a clean but right now she can stay filthy.
  19. I did go from stock to these babies. While they are light for an 18" they are not as light as a 15 so yes there is a difference. No more drifting out of corners in the wet My consumption has definitely gone up. City driving gets me 7kms/L and highway driving gets me 9~9.5kms/L. its not that sluggish. Its my autobox that's making me sluggish... and no coffee in the morning Cool. Do you know where I can get them shortened?
  20. I used a long screwdriver for leverage for the back uprights.
  21. but I don't want the front higher. It looks great as it is. I probably will have to shorten the shock then. Yuen, the RC's were from a wreckers here in Hamilton. Mosen Euro. Does that help? They have heaps of stuff there. Much cheaper than SD european and Mike is great.
  22. DAMN. rides just fine. My front springs aren't captive so they gave me this to help with that. I thought they were somesort of christmas pressie for the wife. Anyone knows what they do? The rear rubs when I'm turning left. Not yet driving me nuts... but guards need to be rolled. Peek of my pink springs.
  23. 1.5" front 1.0" rear. dunno in mm's. get rid of the fugly gap in the front.
  24. Getting installed tomorrow. Then aligned. Then crazy mad road trip next week. then brakes, manual Gbox and then track day. The recoup all money spent by working like a mad man for the next 6 months and here we go again
  25. OK thanks for that. Might just go ahead and convert it into my track car vs buying a Type R.
