  1. There are honest car dealers.. just hard to find. I never trust loss adjusters and that's why I want to take them out of the equation by getting a guaranteed value for the car in case of it getting stolen/wrecked etc. I think I can have 2 options 1) More expensive - insure car and mods separately> Insurance to pay out replacement value for each item and not depreciated value 2) Insure as a whole - cheaper option but value of mods determined by loss adjusters. I need to see the insurance dude again and see what works for me I suppose. On another topic, which is better for a RWD car? Front swaybar upgrade, Rear swaybar upgrade, or Both? and what are the dimensions of the stock 328i swaybars? Whiteline do 27mm for the fronts and 22mm for the rears. Cheers.
  2. hi there Kerry, Are you saying that the market value of a E36 328 is now under $10K?
  3. Yep this is for a guaranteed value. They told me to give them a figure and then they'll come back with the premium.
  4. basically for insurance purposes once mods are in place. E36 328i 1996 76K kms 5spd MANUAL - current has auto but box sourced. simota carbon fibre CAI Whiteline front strut and rear-swaybar Bilstein shocks with H&R springs 18" BBS RC 18x8.5" 225/40/18 Toyo Proxes CT01 If I can get an indication, that'll be awesome. The dealers valuation is pretty stingy and some say $12K. Cheers.
  5. Yep the kit came with everything BUT i have yet to install the bracing as it is a real snug fit already and I couldn't find a good place to brace it. I will probably have to buy a self tapping screw and screw it onto the bodywork just north of the strut tower and behind the headlight assembly OR I may get a longer piece and attach it directly to the strut. I have a method of cleaning a pod filter 1) remove from car 2) Wash in warm soapy water with dishwashing liquid 3) Dry 4) respray the oil - use a spray bottle and you can buy the filter oil from Repco/supercheap 5) reinstall into car. Works like a treat everytime. You could buy the K&N filter recharge kit from Repco for about $30~$35 I think. Cheers.
  6. Just took the car for a short hoon. don't know if there is actual horsepower gain. BUT I did notice 1) Slightly hornier sounding car from 2500rpm onwards (still have my exhaust flap and cats and resos) 2) Definitely sharper throttle response from 2000rpm - feel more rev happy. I'll be awaiting fuel consumption when I fill up and see if there is a difference.... maybe not as I'll be mashing the throttle from now on
  7. its a pod filter yes. I need to drive it to hear the induction sound. Tomorrow Edit: http://gmotor.idv.tw/sample/CF-Intake.jpg Its USD$230 blowout price http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showt...imota+Carbon%22

    Simota CAI

Arrived today So out with the old and in with the new I'll go for a drive tomorrow. Knackered after a long day at work.
  10. did the E46's come with the run flats? Especially the first gen run flats that had concrete for side-walls? Get normal tires and a puncture repair kit or buy AA roadside assistance for about $60 a year:D I did drive an E39 528i and love the leather, atmosphere, TV, space etc. But the missus said.. it way too big for her. So I got a 328i instead. Goes a lot faster as there is a lot less weight to shift. Also did try an E36 323i but there was no power. my previous car was a Honda Accord with 180ps and the 323i was gutless in comparison. Cheers.
  11. As per title. Probably from FBI performance. Pricing will be firmed up shortly I've been quoted $1500incl GST for a solitary buy so with the better NZ $ and the promise of a group buy, I'd hope for a sweeter deal. Cheers. edit: oK. Autopassion CHch have given me pricing for E36 Bilstein H&R combo $445 for H&R springs $349 for Bilstein front shocks each $249 for Bilstein rear shocks each Total = $1641 including freight and GST. Edit: Pricing above is as good as it gets regardless of how many order (from Autopassion) Edit: FBI performance will do it for $1575 incl if there are 5. He currently has 3 sets for 4CYL and 2 for 6CYL. Cheers.
  12. As title says. Somebody must have one and doesn't have a need for it

    road trip

HI guys, Everytime I buy a car, I go for a road trip Earlier this year, it was the West Coast in my Accord. Nows its Northland in the 328i. any tips or ideas? Where to go? Roads to drive? Current plan (very flexible) 1) Go via SH16 to Warkworth heading up north on the east coast. 2) Stop at Whangarei 3) Stop at Bay of Islands 4) Kaitaia and 90 mile beach to cape 5) Down the west coast towards dargaville 6) Down via SH1 to Auckland 7) and maybe to Paeroa via Miranda back to Hamilton anything that I HAVE to see? experience? cheers.

    E36 Exhaust

I wouldn't touch RPS with a 10 foot pole. Too loud. Maybe Al works some magic with them but having heard a few.... no way.
  19. I actually bought the damn book. If you know about cars don't read the synopsis cos its rubbish. It however gives you a good feel of what can and probably will go wrong with older cars and a reasonable amount as to how much it will cost. Most of us here will never buy a car without it first going on a hoist and getting a compression test but my wife will happily buy a car on color! I mean she prefered the Alfa Romeo 156 to the E36!!! Thankfully the windows didn't work when we test drove it or else I'll be registered with the www.brokealfaowner.co.nz/forums Cheers.

    RJ's new ride

    Mint. Is it a 98spec?
  21. So I shouldn't need to get a reso then? What about if I got a Remus muffler? They are pretty much a straight through design, so would i have issues later if I didn't get a reso? Sorry for the multiple questions... just want to do it once and do it right. Cheers.
