From Sunday Star Times 08/06/08 TradeMe users are being warned not to give out their addresses after a buyer drove nearly 40km to assault and threaten a man at his home after a trade went sour. The victim had sold his attacker a computer hard-drive, and posted negative feedback about the buyer on TradeMe when they became embroiled in a dispute about damage to the hard-drive. The negative feedback so enraged the buyer, he drove across Auckland to his victim's house, assaulted him and forced him to remove comments from the website. Nearly two million Kiwis are TradeMe members and could be unwittingly sharing too much personal information during trades. People often put their telephone numbers and addresses on TradeMe, and buyers and sellers also post feedback good and bad about their trading experience on the website. The assault has prompted warnings from internet safety watchdog Netsafe and TradeMe, which will bar the buyer from trading following Sunday Star-Times inquiries. In court on Tuesday, Mark Rata, 42, of South Auckland, admitted the daytime attack at his victim's North Shore home. He had no previous criminal convictions and agreed to pay reparation. His actions have been described as the result of a "massive brain-fade" and he returned to the victim's home moments after the attack to apologise. The victim, who asked not to be named, sold Rata a faulty computer "as is, where is" late last month. Subsequently both posted negative feedback but Rata became furious when the victim reneged on an agreement to remove it. The victim said he received increasingly intimidating emails from Rata. "He said I have to delete it... that morning [of the assault] the email was I've got till 12 midday otherwise 'I'm coming down there and I'm going to sort it out'. And I said, 'What do you mean?' He said, 'You know...''' Rata and a friend drove the 39km to the victim's house with the faulty hard-drive and refused to leave when asked. Rata grabbed the victim by his shirt and pushed him inside the house. Threatened with the hard-drive, he was forced to log on to his computer and delete the feedback. "It was just his attitude was the really scary thing. He was just so calm... just menacing." He said the attack took him by surprise. "I was like a stunned mullet. I just complied." The ordeal lasted about 15 minutes but "felt like ages". He dialled 111 from a phone next to the computer but Rata ripped the phone from the wall. Police were sent when the emergency operator's attempts to call back were unsuccessful. TradeMe manager for trust and safety Dean Winter said the company had a "zero tolerance" attitude to such behaviour and Rata would be banned. Traders became highly emotional about their online reputations and TradeMe often received complaints, but management avoided getting involved because it needed to remain impartial. He said users should take advantage of the option to post a response to negative feedback an explanation or comment listed just below the feedback. And in extreme cases where postings were "obviously defamatory or obscene" TradeMe would remove them. Ebay last month changed its feedback system, preventing sellers from posting negative feedback against buyers. It said the move was aimed at "enhancing buyers' experiences" and avoiding malicious comments. TradeMe was sceptical about the change and would not be following suit. Rata's victim said the experience had not put him off using TradeMe but it has made him think about posting negative feedback. "It's made me aware that people seem to take the feedback a lot more seriously than it should be." He said Rata returned shortly after the assault to apologise, saying he had never done anything like that before.

Yes, I thought the 4.0 only featured in the E34 and E38, as the E39 was the car that debued the 4.4.

Is this happening to anyone else? My settings are still on email notification, but I no longer get an email to say someone has replied to a post or if I have a new PM.

You can write in, with a mechanic making a declaration or the person who made the original cock up putting something in writing. This happened on a BMW E46, the monkey WOF inspector entered in the "kms till next service", not the odometer reading. A letter I sent to LTNZ fixed this.

Very nice! I love these cars, well all Porsche's actually... I still remember when I first drove one of these back in about 2000. It amazed me how you could just keep accelerating around corners without fear of sliping. They are also very nicely put together and reliable. Best of luck with the sale, but why are you selling it?
-
No, the kms are correct as advertised. Some muppet mechanic / WOF inspector must have typed 254,020 into the computer instead of 154,020.

Apart from the kms, its not a bad buy...

Yeah, i'm less than impressed too... Looks rather boring, like a scaled up 3-series with a bit of LS Lexus in it! Shame BMW is listening to critics of the Bangle designs and are now moving to a conservative design era

From caradvice.com.au SPY SHOTS Our European photographers snapped the car at the firm’s Munich headquarters this morning, and it’s the first time the Mercedes S-class beater can be seen without the heavy cladding that so far made the elegant saloon looking like an ugly military tank. With its huge twin-kidney grille and the wrap-around headlights the car mimics design elements of the X5 and X6 but keeps the exclusive character the 7-series is known for. Though still disguised with a fake rear spoiler, the rear end and especially the boot lid will undoubtedly become more elegant compared to the current car’s back. In addition to the exterior updates, BMW will be introducing a new iDrive and rumour has it …an eight-speed transmission (in order to shut Lexus up). The new 7 series will make its first public appearance at the Paris Show later this year and will arrive as a 2009 model. CGI The new luxury sedan will take on the likes of Mercedes-Benz S Class, Audi A8 and the newest contender, the Japanese made hybrid Lexus LS600hl. So far little concrete information is known about BMW’s latest creation, but rumours suggest the German powerhouse will be introducing a new iDrive system with the 7-series, which will eventually trickle down to the rest of the BMW range. BMW Australia’s communication manager, Toni Andreevski, told CarAdvice to expect the new 7-series in Australia in the first half of 2009, however he would not comment on engine variants or other specifications. BMW fans around the world are currently discussing the new 7, hoping that the infamous bangle-butt of the current range will be restyled. Rumour has it the new 7-series will also sport an 8-speed automatic transmission to take on Lexus in the numbers game. (tried to post this using "submit news", but the link doesn't work...)

Seems very cheap Link to turners Low kms, NZ new - you would only get a much older and higher km E46 M3 for this money. Strange that the WOF ran out in January though, and hasn't been updated... I wonder what the story is? P.S - who finds Turners new website annoying to navigate?

They are different entities.

Maybe mine is shagged from use at the gym / running. Its locked on one song, with the screen light on. None of the buttons are responding. When this happened before, I connected it to my comp and reformatted it, which solved the problem. Might see if the battery will run out and if I recharge and reboot it may work again. Think I will just buy a shuffle for gym use now...

Wow, very cool Who knew grey could come in so many shades? Pity there is no E30 - E38 info...

Today, the second Ipod that I have owned decided to die... Tried the usual full reset and reformat, but is still locked up! It's 13 months old, so no warranty. No rough usage, never been dropped either. Heaps of people I know have had Ipods crap out in a very short time. Do you guys have the same issues? Are Ipods only supposed to last for a very short time? The worst thing about it is that I will be walking down to the shops to buy another soon. Unfortunately there are no real alternatives!

The wee box at the bottom of the home screen has always intrigued me... "Most users ever online was 430 on July 14, 2006 at 06:49 AM." This seems pretty intense, 430 users online early in the morning... Things must have quietend down a lot since those days, or is there another reason for it? Something to show potential advertisers? Can someone explain?

Not a fan of Phoenix Yellow, but the very rare Laguna Seca Blue (pastel) gets me going. I guess if you are gonna drive an M car, it might as well be a bit out there...

Well, this is probably worse... 2005 BMW 750i facelift NZ new, 42kms. New price from bmw.co.nz is $220,000 plus options, this puppy is selling for $65,000, meaning it has lost 70% of its value in less than 3 years!!!
