I have owned 4 E30's and they have ALL had issues with the cooling system. Seems to be a bit of achillies heel with these cars. Has a BMW specialst been doing your work? I find when owning a Euro, you can waste a lot of time and money by going to the wrong mechanic. An E30, like all BMW's is a very different beast to a Corolla or Commodoore... Water pumps are very common causes, but seeing as you've replaced that, and the radiator and thermostat, I can't suggest anything else (I'm no mechanic!). Good luck...

NOt meaning to open up a can of words. Just an observation

Not a bad car from what I remember. Being a Toyota, it should be boringly reliable too!
-
Link Maybe the majority of us were right???

Was having this discussion with a mate the other day who is looking at buying an E30. Which should he buy, a 318i manual or 325i auto? They seem to be priced at about the same level. Personally, I would go for the 325i, much more grunt and usually better spec. I guess the same argument prevails for an E36. Which would you guys rather have?

Could be a bit cheaper. Sienna red is not a very good colour for resale

History shows it was imported in 03 with 80 odd kms, meaing the current mileage is very likely to be genuine. People do get far too hung up on kms. Think I would rather have this than a comparable car lilke something that arrived in the country 5 years old with 12kms on it.

Keep looking for a nice E36 / E46 for myself, but can't help notice how low E39's are falling. A few examples.... 1997 523i NZ new, high kms but looks tidy and only $4,900 1996 528i Another high km NZ new car, but again looks tidy and buy now is $7k 1997 535i V8 NZ new too... asking $9,950 1997 520i ex-UK, MANUAL, $7,600 Has anyone had experience with high km E39's? To they tend to still be reliable, or past 200kms are you buying ongoing trouble?

Carfax'd it buddy. I'm always dubious of vehicles with no model designation badge

Simon, I thought you were going to keep my Mondeo "problem" quiet... Sold the nice car in order to buy a house, never bought the house and still have the sh*t car... Hmmm. Mind you, not a bad car for the money (its an '02 and cost less than what some people want for their pedestrian E30's) Anyways... thought someone may know of an ex mondeo owner who bought the M325i? Maybe we will see it cruizing down Queen Street with an FPV cap on the parcel tray?

Are you wanting to sell it, or is it for insurance? Most people on here would consider me a "low-baller" when it comes to what I think vehicles are worth, but in the current market only cars that are priced sensibly are selling.

Stopped into the dealership today and spoke to a salesman who said it sold a few weeks ago for $12k. Did anyone on here buy it? Apparently he traded a Mondeo on it...

Gosh - how does the 2000cc powerhaus handle draggin those big ass wheels?
-
Why is this still for sale??? A lot of car for $10k Has anyone here looked at it? If so, what sort of condition is it in? Updated link

Well, each to their own I guess... Clarkson did rate the E63 above the M5 on Topgear on Sunday

Just get a free flow, and replace the airfilter with a pantyhose auuuu!
-
I don't understand it... Can someone please explain?
-
Could be a variety of things. Usually means "check engine", i.e. take it to a dealer who can put it on a diagnostic computer.
-
Not a bad ROI! Maybe I should leave my profession and get into car wrecking!
-
Well I take it you haven't sold your car yet?
