Should i trade my 2009 e92 325i to 2007 e92 335i?
M3_Power replied to djasonz's topic in General Discussion
That is true ... It was right in the middle of the recession and dealers were slashing prices left right and centre just to move cars and it didn't last very long either, it was sold within days. The 335i definitely holds value well though, well above average compared to other performance oriented BMWs. -
My bad .... I think she wants $40,000 .... and I'll get some photos up soon.

Should i trade my 2009 e92 325i to 2007 e92 335i?

Okay, here's my genuine opinion ... that car is overpriced for the km travelled. The last 335i Motorsport coupe I looked at was last year around April and it was an ex-demonstrator in white with 7000km on the clock - price ... $76,000 drive away. I've seen loads more similarly priced with way lower km (not recently however .. these seem to be holding value quite well - much better than the M3s for sure) Not worth it in my opinion. -
1 careful lady owner (actually my 63 year old mother) Very low ks ... I think 25,XXXkm or might be less or slightly more I can't recall (but definitely not over 27,XXXkm). 3.2 litre V6 NA. Cuban Night Silver Colour (hard to describe, it's like a beige silver haha ...) beige interior. Standard Elegance spec, phone prep (no phone), CD player, multifunction steering - Auto of course. Very tidy inside. Great condition and never thrashed and carefully driven. Call or PM if you are seriously interested 021 281 0155

I started writing this a few weeks ago and have not had time to update it, but thought I would throw it up for now and update it as I go (and I have a long way to go). I am hoping for this thread to be a 'go to' thread for related topics and place what I have learnt in one single comprehensive thread for all enthusiasts out there. p.s. No actual links to softwares will be posted and please don't PM me about where to get it - google. So here's a start: Right, the purpose of putting this discussion topic together is simply to share information that is already readily out there if you know where to look. However finding it and actually understanding it are two very different tasks. I’ve been reading and studying this stuff for a good two weeks now and given the amount of ‘secrecy’ that seems to surround whatever knowledge there is out there I thought it would be useful to put together a single document that condenses all the terminologies and proven solutions in one simple easy to understand topic. I’ve obviously not exhausted all the knowledge there is out there and it is constantly improving, so I will try and add to this topic if and when I understand it. Let’s start with some Modern BMW diagnostics: As us all enthusiasts know, modern BMWs aren’t the most ‘backyard mechanic’ friendly cars when it comes to control modules or DME issues. The need to visit dealerships to clear codes or activate control systems, hidden functions or even to code new keys can mean time lost and hard earned money spent. So what does BMW dealerships use to ‘talk’ to our cars? DIS Hardware: This is the hardware system that operated the very early DIS (Diagnostic Information System) software (very obsolete now and really don’t warrant anything further) GT1 " Group Tester One" The most commonly cloned and emulated hardware system that is used by BMW Dealerships until it was phased out in 2008 (commonly seen on ebay as clone GT1s) The real thing is over NZ$50,000 to buy (I’ve personally spotted a second hand unit on ebay from England for about 4000GBP … still too rich for the backyard DIYer). It was manufactured by Siemens and runs a UNIX based system. There are two types of commonly seen Clones of the GT1: The IBM T30 (or T22 or T23) system: - With the relevant interface (I will explain this further later on " which includes EDIC [commonly referred to as the Yellow Head, DK Head or the Yellow Emul Head]; OPS; OPPS and MOST). This system is based on the IBM T30 laptop (why? Because the original Siemens manufactured GT1s had a hardware setup almost identical to the IBM T30 " 18.635G HDD; 256MB RAM similar processor speed, ports ect ect; When the clone was originally created it was basically a rip of the original hard drive from a real GT1. It needed to be almost identical hardware in order for it to work as a native install within the IBM hard drive running UNIX OS) - The very last version of DIS from BMW was v57 (on a DVD) - These are considered to be almost equivalent to the real GT1s, albeit slightly slow on start up, but are considered a lot more stable than the Virtual Machine System. - You can technically build this system for quite cheap. Second hand IBM T30s are aplenty and cheap to pick up. Virtual Machine BMW GT1 on ANY Laptop: - Built on VMware Virtual Machines (cloning the exact hardware spec of the IBM T30 on UNIX) - Can be used with relevant interface or an emulated interface. - Works just like the IBM T30 GT1 Clones; - Speed and stability depending on how good your Laptop is (recommendation is 4G RAM at least, over 2.4GHz CPU speed, and at least 80G hard drive space or on solid state drives). - Very easy to create and is currently the ‘most’ popular type of system out there. - If an emulated interface is used, requires special INPA/EDIABAS or ADS or K+D-CAN compatible cables (or Carsoft cables) " connection between the virtual machine and the car is made using BMW’s INPA diagnostic interpreter program via BMW factory developed EDIABAS (Electronic Diagnosis and Information) protocol (windows based) Basically a communication link between the DIS software in the GT1 through the emulated interface (EDIC DK yellow head). - Can be tricky to setup using the emulated interface and different type of cables and port connections (serial or USB being the most popular) (various ways with different rate of success). GT1 Interfaces: EDIC (Yellow Head) The yellow head or commonly known as the DK head. Emulated and physical copied units from China. For diagnosis of vehicles up to 2009 Vehicle interface via OBD-II or 20 pin socket: E87, E90, E91, E92, E60, E61, E63, E64, E65, E66, E70, E83, E85, E86, E31, E32, E34, E36, E38, E39, E46, E52, E53, R56, R50, R52, R53 Programming is done via SSS Progman GT1 with SSS for programming Supported Models: Vehicle interface via OBD-II or 20 pin socket: E83, E85, E86, E31, E32, E34, E36, E38, E39, E46, E52, E53, R56, R50, R52, R53 OPS (Orange Head) ##### TO BE CONTINUED ######

Hate to say this ... I used to think this was the ultimate car ... until I drove a C63 AMG ....
-
Oops ... My bad, by cheap I meant 'well priced compared to retail' .... Still an expensive luxury car ..

no M cars use run flats ... Period. You can't even spec them with it. The michelins are also surprisingly long lasting and will easily do 30,000km with a couple of track days thrown in. Also if you import tge tyres privately they don't cost anywhere near $4000, more like $2500 fitted.
-
Unlikely, as it would have been a stock car at BMW NZ (given that it's a pre-facelift; they've been bringing in the facelift models for over a year now) - so likely one of those that sat in the warehouse and never got sold but the dealership had their name on it for a long time and only decided to register it now. Either way, cheap car. When BMW NZ had demonstrator specials on the M3s they were still at least $14X,XXX to buy, so this is definitely cheap for a brand new car despite the fact that it has the older style Nav and lights.

Roger that
-
That's not a 2010 model ... it's a pre-facelift model (look at the rear lights - the new ones are LED). So my guess is it's either an used model (and the ks just haven't been noted correctly as usually is the case on trademe) or an ex dealership demonstrator.
-
Not necessarily .... watch for my Clone GT1 posts soon. However I would say anything post 2010 would be very hard to work on by independents ... although there are works on ISIS clones already, so I wouldn't hold my breath. p.s there's no issues with working on E9X M3s at all actually with aftermarket systems or BMW clones.

Haven't actually look at the SSS progman myself, but I do have a working version. The problem with the info on the net is that it is all over the place, with different ideas and ways to get things working. If we were allowed to discuss it then I suppose your input on the SSS would be most helpful to members - with the added warning that coding your control units = risks of bricking it. lol I will wait for final approval before I start any sort of discussion thread on the topic - any suggestions (if it is allowed) as to which subforum it should go in?

Okay, I thought I would put this up here first given that only registered members can access off-topic discussions. But are clone GT1 discussions allowed on bimmersport? I've been doing a whole host of reading on this recently and have a fairly good grasp of what's available out there in terms of OEM level diagnostics and coding. I am also in possession of a DIS v57 and SSS v32 GT1 that I've had a bit of time toying around. I am also in the process of building two other systems, one with DIS v44 and one on IBM T30 system with DIS v57 and SSSv34. I've run into some issues at the moment with the v44 system (a connection issue) and have really run out of sources in order to find a solution. To the mods: So just wondering if discussions and questions relating to cloned GT1s are allowed on here? I've actually been thinking about writing a full comprehensive guide on it (without actual links to where to find the files ect) ... but generally a how to guide on making this work. (I know a lot of it is already available on the net if you really look for it, but most are only parts of the bigger picture, rather than a full comprehensive guide.)

So very strange, I can't figure out what's wrong - I've turned off all the spyblockers and made sure I checked Disable scrip debugging and cleared all history and cookies, even tried another browser and the photos still won't load .... HELP!!! Line 294 Char 1 Syntax Error .... code 0 All the other pages on bimmersport seems to work fine ... just not this page ... the photos just won't load. I've also updated java .... no luck.
-
Can't see anything?? Am I the only one? "Syntax Error" ??? WTH??
-
I don't think there's a right or wrong way ... simply whatever you are comfortable with. I tend to toe both the brake and accelerator at the same time and I don't even have big feet(i.e. roll my foot over to the accelerator to rev match) On bimmers I find toe on the brake and heel on the accelerator lot easier given the floor pivoting accelerator setup, on the jappers you could do both I think.
