  1. Apparently quite a common occurrence Glenn. The newer style shipping blocks sit under the dust boot on the damper itself rather than on the springs, and LOADS of PDIs miss them, only to be discovered when the customer complain about ride quality (I know from first hand experience - yes this happened to me, but I caught it early enough without it causing any damage to the car). Wife once told me about a 2003 mini with 9x,xxxkm on the clock and it still had the shipping blocks in all four corners - NZ new too with multiple owners. This was obviously not the first time it's happened (less noticeable in a Mini apparently given the harsh ride from the factory). Unless you look for it the shipping blocks under the dust boot on the dampers are not that apparent at first sight - well the ride height and quality should give it away, but honestly most just don't know ...
  2. I just picked up this magazine ... well worth the purchase. Here's the final sentence from the article, sums it up nicely I think: "In some ways there should be no surprise that it was not sanctioned for limited production but it could be viewed as the father of the 850CSi and McLaren F1 and it could so easily have been as exciting and significant as both of them, and maybe have been a latter-day BMW M1 or M635CSi. What we can do today is sit back and admire the work of that small group of dedicated and talented people at BMW M GmbH" Few fun facts about the car: - They only ever built one and it still exists today - it's tucked away deep in BMW's historical collection (in fact I've spotted a video of this said 'warehouse' on the net recently and saw the M8 tucked away in the corner) - Carbon Kevlar Dash covered in Alcantara - Scheel Carbon Kevlar bucket seat and 4 point harness - The rear fender cut out was to house an oil cooler for the engine on the left and differential cooler on the right. - The s70 engine was designed not by Paul Rosche, but rather an apprentice of his working for him at the time (Schulte Vorwick). This engine did later 'help' with the eventual McLaren F1 engine they were contracted to do by Gordan Murray. - Engine was basically 2 x M3 six cylinders joined together on a common crankcase (sound familiar?) - Car is loaded with Alcantara interior - The car was actually VERY CLOSE to being sanctioned for phase 2 development which would have meant a limited run of approximately 1500 units at DM250,000 retail price per car (the marketing department thought it was too expensive and would not sell, so the board canned it - Damn marketing people!!!) - 550hp, no official timing was ever done, but approximately 4.8s to 100km and capable of 340km/h - They had also partially completed chassis development at the Nurburgring for this before the budget ran out. - Standard Getrag 6 speed gearbox with 3.15:1 final drive - the wheels are a 2 piece design with the centre being made from Carbon Kevlar!!!! (this is back in 1990 people!!) - 4 pot AP Racing front caliper on 305mm disc - rear standard 850Ci item - Aluminium bonnet - They wind tunnel tested the car and found that a rear spoiler was not necessary - The car has headlights, just not the pop up item found in the normal E31 - weight saving measure apparently. - The people that worked on this car were: Reitzle, Kalbfell, Roche and Gerhard Richter (all from BMW Motorsport) - The car has a German plate ZS-M-32 (I wonder if it is actually registered??) The Journalists that did this article nearly got to drive the car, but it had a faulty electronic engine module and was misfiring on the day, so they decided to cann the drive. Well worth buying the magazine - heaps of close up never before seen detail photos of this car.
  3. Christ ... who taught you Contract Law 810.201?? You should stop giving legal advice when you clearly have no idea what you are talking about ... (just in case I came across arrogant ... I really am not trying to be - but what you've stated above couldn't be further from the truth) Given that the situation's worked out I won't bother commenting ... Congrats to the buyer.
  4. I tend to believe that you would have a higher chance of getting a fairer value by not telling people that you 'won' this awesome prize - congrats regardless. Pure opinion of course.

  6. LOL ... no Jon definitely not ... Although I have to say rather proud of my rangi-fix haha .. By the way I f'd up with the auction ... wasn't suppose to be a Buy Now $1 ... oooooppps ... trying to email the seller and trademe now to sort it out ... not sure how I did that to be honest, must have been not paying attention whilst on the phone listing the auction and talking to somebody else next to my desk all at the same time ... bugger!!
  7. Check it out guys! Happy to answer any questions. Relisted due to my original stuff up!! http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.as...680&ed=true
  8. Okay, can someone teach the noob where in justin tv will the race be shown? How do I find it? Is it under sport? I see obviously it's not up yet - but does it get streamed automatically when it starts?
  9. bumping this back up ... are the two sources in the first page still good for tonight's race?
  10. This is how you do a replica E36 M3 GTR Video: Original thread: http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=310514
  11. I enjoy shattering dreams Glenn ... hehe ... kidding ... but the cold hard facts must be said sometimes. But definitely an expensive exercise for a bit of gain - the aptly named supercharged CSL "LOADED" kinda of give it away I think I say tell your friend to bring his GTR to the track and spend the money on some really awesome Nitron or Moton 4 way race adjustables with race springs, uprate your rear floor mounts and see who's quicker then (maybe a bit of money too on driver training) Yes Warren told me about it when he was over at my place picking up that replica bumper - definitely didn't sound like a cheap build. I saw the car last weekend at Botany McDonalds (of all places) ... the car looked mint - loved the plate!! It has been "re-Loaded" - it's now a funky mustard yellow/green sort of colour - actually there's a video of it on the side bar of that link above. There's photos of the rebuild process floating around on the net - I can't be bothered digging it out, but it was done pretty well and professionally. It's also running a slightly different aero package now (huge front end splitter moulded into the factory bumper - crazy looking thing)
  12. John Thorney's a good guy - very knowledgeable and friendly - but honestly they are useless when it comes to buying stuff off them (this is even the consensus with a lot of the cslregister guys) - their pricings also aren't the sharpest for some reason. Great if you are located in the UK and can just rock up to his workshop, but I wouldn't waste time to be honest trying to buy stuff off them (I think they are simply way too busy to bother with single orders) - and yes I've tried.
  13. There are 3 supercharged E46 M3s in NZ - one's in Wellington and the other two are up here in Auckland. I've met the owner of both Auckland cars (Imola Red and Pheonix yellow Cab) and both have over 500whp (the Imola red one does at least, can't remember what the yellow one puts out) .. The Imola red car was done by Dodsons Auto - give them a ring and I am sure they'd be more than happy to put you in touch with the owner - it's a beautiful looking car and a friendly fella to chat to. Similarly with the Pheonix yellow car owner (he's over the shore, also a friendly fella to talk to) - I believe this one was fitted by Soichi Tate ... I think. Supercharging is the way to go for the E46 M3 if you don't want to lose drivability - also lot more reliable than turbo charging. Gearbox wise it'll handle the power (similarly with the stock bottom end), the clutch you'll need to upgrade as the stock unit won't handle anything more than 450hp ... and be prepared to rip the rear subframe floor to pieces once you've done it : P (I am serious). And for a proven 7.22 around the Nurburgring .... here's the Loaded CSL full spec: Engine: 3,2 L Supercharged engine, new low-comp pistons,10,5:1 compression, Vortec V2 Super silent with water-cooling system, extra oil cooling system, new fuel system with catch tank and Bosch fuel pumps. 14. Saw an immaculate DMC Delorean on Sommerville Road out East Auckland with the plate BTTF ('Back to the Future' I presum) - first time I've seen one in the flesh driving on the road (not counting the movie car I saw at Universal Studios) - have to say, awesome looking machine and very unique. It was also very low and wide, very supercar like (shame it doesn't have the performance credentials to back it up) - like it regardless!!
  15. Longer and better video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ucnp-srma-A...feature=related
  16. The OEM supplier for BMW batteries is Exide - not sure if Exide is sold here in NZ as its own brand - but buying an Exide battery is exactly the same as buying a BMW battery, they are just rebranded and marked up. A good alternative is the Mini cooper battery - which is exactly the same as the M3 CSL battery - you save about 19lb in weight from the OEM M3 Battery and it'll crank okay provided you don't run heavy audio equipment. Just check that the CCA has enough juice to get your car going. The standard E46 M3 battery Exide Classic CCA730 94R-60 It's actually used on a lot of other European cars (might pay to see which dealership has the cheapest price): for e.g. Audi A4s, Chrysler 300, Dodge Challenger, Jag X-Type, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Commander, Land Rover LR2 and 3, Merc C300 and C350, Porsche Boxter, VW Gold, Jetta, Passat, Touareg The Mini Cooper S Battery is Exide Classic CCA 600 - Part 47-60 Used in even more cars .. like Audi TTs, Jags, loads of Mercs, Loads of Saabs, Loads ov VWs and virtually the whole Volvo range LOL .... Link to all battery specs and application search for Exide here: http://www.showmetheparts.com/n2ebattery/#
  17. The CS is not available in NZ, never was. Your only way of getting one would be UK import. They are quite a good compromise, especially with the quicker steering rack - transforms the car by quite a bit. Maintenance wise, I'd say they'd all be very similar no matter which model you pick - except for some CSL specific parts which are very expensive (mostly aesthetics though). Thank you : ) Now thinking about I guess I am at Newmarket quite often (weekends usually), to visit the wife at work, and I get sent to do a starbucks run for the dealership : P Night and day difference. The weight difference is the first thing you notice, the next being the steering input and feedback. Power wise to be honest I don't think there's that much in it, it is only marginally quicker (nothing like the difference between the new V8 M3 and the S54B32) You can definitely mod a normal M3 to be just as quick though. The airbox is hard to replicate without a lot of money spent however - can be done if you are prepared. A Pharmacist in Canterbury owns it now. Ah that day ... of all the days that I never use the car for outings, happened to get a puncture in the daily, and I had a dinner thing in Newmarket that I had to make, so had no choice but to use the CSL to get there .. LOL.
  18. It must be the season ... congrats!!
  19. Hey Dan, it was good to see you! Thanks for coming up to introduce yourself, I'd have never put 2 and 2 together with your forum name and the car you had there yesterday! It was a great private day with loads of track time and 99.99% of the people behaving like they should (the only idiot there that day was the R8 driver that couldn't resist on speeding through the pitlane every single time just so everyone can hear his wonderful Audi V8 ... or was it V10?) Hope my driving wasn't too shocking yesterday. I honestly had the car set up too hard in the rear end and it was all over the place around high speed weight transition corners - simply couldn't put the power down as I'd liked and ended up up shifting lot earlier than I normally would. Giving it was brand new discs I was also going easy on the brakes just in case I warped another set - happy to report they've stood up to the test yesterday! (Had the car all cleaned up and tucked away by 8pm last night and the custom stone chip masking tapes really works!) Great video by the way - wow I never realised how loud it was - I honestly couldn't tell from inside the car with the helmet on - but cricky, I now know what you guys meant!! Mine does sound a tad louder than Rob's car (the other CSL owner)! Just in case some of you are wondering why my front bumper looked a little odd, I was running a replica bumper yesterday (colour mismatched) with an extended front splitter: Here's the before track day shot: I'll let you know if one does - I keep in regular contact with quite a few owners and have had people call me in the past to see if anyone was selling - I sent an email out and got quite a few colourful rejections haha. Was this on Pakuranga Highway? Hope I wasn't speeding : P It has an exhaust. Rob's one is a UK import and it is in Miles - both of our cars actually have virtually identical km. He doesn't use his everyday, neither do I. Although I did for about 6 months when I first got the car. They are actually surprisingly easy to live with on a day to day basis - provided you don't go to supermarkets, shopping malls and anywhere you'd have to park the car. The ride is harsh around town even in stock form, but livable. Traffic jams aren't really fun though. That would be me (standard M3 before the CSL) - although I am surprised you say you spotted me in town - I hardly go there other than to eat and even that isn't a common occurrence for me! Yes they do!!
  20. It's bolt in .... and believe it or not it'll run on the stock ecu even .. just not very well : ) I've done plenty of Honda transplants in my life time, so I know what I am talking about (if you doubt me head over to nzhondas and have a read) Honda's are like Legos ... actually better than legos - you can make almost anything fit provided it is from a Honda. Drum brakes aren't an issue - easily solved with a prop valve swap and rear trailing arm swap. Honestly it's a waste of time rebuilding that engine back to stock - probably more expensive too if you account in labour costs. You can pick up a B16A for next to nothing these days and if you wanted more power go for a B18CR. Loads of options - personally I'd probably pick up a B20 vtec conversion for the most economical and biggest bang for buck. But for the easiest engine implant and cheapest, just do a B16A. You'd need a B series gearbox though, unless you want to buy a D to B adaptor.
  21. I'd just throw in a B18C or B16A and be done with it ...
  22. I would do a write up on SMG, but to be honest I'd just be repeating this thread http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=231113 The above is the best source for all things SMG (bar the workshop manual and service tech information booklet). There's a couple of things that can go wrong with the SMG, mainly eletrical (relays, sensors - there's multiple of them) and some hydraulic (the pump itself or the pressure accumulator) and the least mechanical (compression spring or synchronmesh). All in all it is actually a fairly reliable system - the trouble is your generic OBD2 tools can't diagnose what is wrong with it. If any of you with a SMGII or SMGIII car wants a diagnostic on the Autoenginuity tool, hit me up - more than happy to hook it up and see what is wrong with it.
  23. Claim against the owner of the vehicle first ... they'll soon reveal the driver that's liable (hopefully). The insurance company does the same if the not at fault party can't provide driver details or only have a rego from hit and run.
