  1. I always just went with conventional tyres for the reasons stated above. I don’t know what size wheels you have on there but when I was putting Pirelli Scorpion 19’ tyres on my old E70 X5 you could pick them up for $4-500 plus fitting. I thought they were a good tyre for the size of the vehicle. I can an expensive Hankook SUV tyre which was apparently the OEM tyre for the F15 in some markets but they wore very quickly and I definitely had more confidence in the Scorpions. 

    People have a range of views but I saw no point in runflats - you always sacrificed the tyre by running it under inflated so I figured a can of tyre-weld and a small compressor was just as good for better ride. 

    As an aside - I does my head in how cheap some people are with tyres, the only things which keep you on the road. The X5 is what, a $120-150k vehicle new and still pretty pricey used and people can’t spring for even mid-range tyres to fit? Come on. 

    A competent tyre shop will be able to give you a good recommendation. I have used Tyre City in Newmarket and found them good for this - it’s like most things in life, there are no ‘special hacks’ and you trade off performance for price.

    I agree with a lot of your points. I've turned stop/start off in mine, the torque is just awesome (mine's a diesel) and I honestly don't think I'd need more performance. I'd have loved a 340i touring (mainly for the sound and quicker to warm up) but it wasn't worth an extra 20k!

    I went with the sedan because I couldn’t find a touring that a) was reasonably priced for diesel and b) came without X-Drive which I didn’t want. 
     

    Although on a recent trip to Bunnings I did miss the extra cargo space and thought I should have not been so cheap.

    Why? It’s a percentage of the total value, so the currency is irrelevant. 15% of XUSD is the same as 15% of the equivalent NZD after the conversion.

    Harleys are not made for racing. They are made from cruising the interstate in your American flag bandanna (no helmet) with your “old lady” on the back. All because “it’s my goddamn right, man” on the way to your dive bar to drink a Budweiser.

    @gjm ironically, if i just selected the FEDEX option, albeit more expensive, it would have been cheaper because it would have been minus the GST bill, and parts would have arrived already.

    I'm still awaiting dispatch for my youshop items, they are 3 days overdue.

    I think this is my last experience with youshop, they have been under delivering over the last few months and this has pushed me over the edge lol

    I use MyUS which is great - even has its own app for managing shipments. 


  6. That’s interesting because I got 12K on trade in for my 2007 4.8 non-msport at Auckland City BMW... I think it ended up at a used dealership with blacked out wheels (yuck) and sold for closer to 20k. I only had 120k on the clock though. 

    I have a set of Brembo front pads and rotors left behind for anyone is in need of some - still in boxes.

    I agree if it was indeed a "major" repair, then I also believe there will be some compromise. But in this instance I am led to believe that the repair is most probably panel and paint - which I dont mind. I am just trying to figure out if this indeed the case BUT having difficulty to get this information.

    Also, my biggest reason for considering said vehicle is not purely because of the money savings but because it is well spec'ed. I honestly hate some of the poor spec of the NZ new and japanese examples but I cant complain because Im not in a position to buy new and tick the boxes myself :)

     

     

    I would take the money unless the car was really unusual or unique. 

    I’ve always found most NZ and Japanese examples to be well spec’d but like everything, you have to pay for it - nothing is free!

    I am interested to see how this turns out. Maybe I am just lazy but I don’t want this level up of complication with my cars. I want a warranty and I don’t want a hard time if I trade-in/sell when I’m finished with the vehicle.

    Saw some of that at Repco... 

    As what always happens the smaller niche players like OCD etc have tapped into a good little market. Now the bigger players are revamping and expanding their product ranges to capitalise on it.
