  1. To be honest, the 40D isn't in the wholesale channel anymore, its getting replaced by the EOS50D (i beleive). Thats the perks of having a Computer Wholesale store, i get stuff cheaply. But if you dont mind getting parrallel import stuff then try parallelimported.co.nz, sometimes cheaper than Canon direct.
  2. Here are a few. First one cracks me up everytime i see it, my daughter and my brother in-law
  3. On a last note, you need to save up for what you really want to buy !
  4. What sort of photo's do you want to see? Most of mine are of either people of animals. I haven't got many 'artistic' photos as i'm not that creative hahahaha
  5. Also i disagree with just selling the car to get the extra money. My reasoning for that is she is more than likely want to buy back another fancy car and put some chromies onto it etc, so then she will need to some how fork up that money again after however long it takes her for her studies (probably in 12weeks time). In my opinon i think just keep the car, find a reasonable part time job that the pay isn't too bad and forget about trying to milk the system of the entire sum on money. Also the student allowance is partially calculated by parents combined income aswell, if they earn over certain threashold doesn't matter if you dont earn enough you still will get less amount or nothing at all if they earn too much. (unless your parents work partially under the table and it doesn't reflect on their 'income') I'm not trying to be rude or offend you, but i think you have just become too used to living at home and using parents money (I've been there done that). Once you get out there you will find how much harder things are, and inorder to be successful you need to look/plan a lot further than just whats directly a head of you. " This year, from march till about june-ish I'm doing a C.U.P course (Certificate of University Entrance), which is pretty much getting my University entrance, it's a bit costy, but I hate school now, bitches scratch up my cars and stuff." If you are worried about these little things you'll find it even harder in the "real" world. "Was just a Joke, can’t take anyone seriously that drives round in a flashy car and has the audacity to claim a student allowance at tax payers’ expense.-APEX" Fully agree there! Cars = Assets ! Keeping things in perspective, she is just planning for the next 12 weeks at the moment, who knows what she is going to do after that? Overall i'm am fully with Glenns comments! My sister in-law did pretty much the same thing now she's an acturist(spelling?)(some one who calculates stuff for insurance companies etc) in Australia and earning $200K+ and she's not even reach top level yet. When she does she'll be earning anything in excess of $600K+ a year. But ofcourse this come with other 'costs', she is always stressed out, worried about making mistakes, she'd be lucky to spend more than couple hours with my brother a day. Will not consider starting a family for another 5-10 years atleast. and there are others too. But it does mean she has a sh*t load of money to spend. Where as i choose to go down a different path, i dont earn near as much money as my sis in-law but have decided to live a more humble lifestyle, we'd be lucky to go out and dine once every couple of weeks. Usually go shopping once a month (exculding essentials, ie supermarket etc). And have choose to get into a large mortage for a house and have 2 kids already (probably intend to have either 3 or 4 in total, family always came first for me and my wife). Some times you'll just have to make do with what is avaiable to you. And i'm only 25years old! Anyway i'll just shutup now
  6. Back to one of the questions... you wouldn't be able to get anyway with it unless your employer is some dodgy character, because in general employers needs to fill in the PAYE stuff and it lists all your pays etc. So no matter what bank account you put it in it won't work unless it's under the table payouts, then in that case it makes no difference.
  7. Yes i think that Canon is King in New Zealand because it is one that is well distributed while the other brands are generally retail only. Your second part is very true, its the passion that is the main point. And yeah, my wife always laughs at me lugghing my kit around when we travel etc, lol. I have a dedicated backpack for all that jazz, and then the extra change of clothes for the kids some times get shoved into the bag cause its so big. LOL! Live view on the Canon 40D only works when you have it on manual mode, and i never ever use it, it defects the purpose of my getting a DSLR. Also i stand corrected, the two that i was choosing from was the 400D and the 40D. Actually if you do a search you will find an old thread of someone else that asked basically the same question about DSLRs Live view is when you can turn on the LCD screen on the back of the camera and be able to see the "preview" instead of looking though the viewfinder. I'll try and have a hunt of some of the photo's i've taken.
  8. Damn 10K just for startup! just had a quick tally, so far i've only spent $6K (wholesale price)
  9. I usually run 40 on all my cars.
  10. I really like this shot !!
  11. Also i think you need to put just as much thought onto what lenses to purchase as well. I've got 4 lense in my kit at the moment, just saving up for the 400+ pro zoom lense. 1x basic 17-85mm IS 1x basic 70-300mm IS 1x Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM Telephoto Lens 1x Canon EF 100mm Macro f/2.8 USM LENS 2x 32GB 300x CF card 1x Canon 430EX SPEEDLITE
  12. I'm using the 40D and it took me 2.5 months to finally decide on it. It was mainly between the choices of 450D and 40D at the time. You need to ask your self whether you want the bigger screen, live view and faster FPS going from 450 to 40D. For me the FPS was important to me so i went that one. If it's only $200 difference and you dont mind paying it then i would recommend getting the 40D. At the time of me buy it was around $1k difference lol. I wouldnt really recommend the Sony DSLR yet as i've seen/heard a lot a review/comments about them, and they are pretty new to the DSLR market.
  13. Amplifying will make a huge difference if you decided to go for decent speakers/components. Genearlly the stock wiring should handle it but it again comes down to what you want to acheive and how much power you are going to be runnuing. 3/ would be dependent on what speakers you choose. Based on the infinit's i would probably go either a 2 channel or 4 channel around 200-300wrms Reason i suggest 4 channel is just incase you want to add rear speakers you can future proof yourself. Yes it would be fine to run the amp outta the boot. This is just my opinon from my eperiences anyway.
  14. BTW, do you have overheating issues ?
  15. That wheel well reminds me of my first E36 install, 4x XMAX 10" + 3 AMPs 2x 1.5Fared caps. The rest of the amps are hidden under the huge MRV-1501 which im using in the E39 now.
  16. The CD changer is behind the panel, thats the navigation unit. I couldn't be bother moving it, it's not really in the way either so i left it where it was.
  17. I've found that the E39 is the easiest stereo install ive ever done, all the wires are there from the factory wiring from the H/U to the amp and right back to the speakers. So EVERYTHING was done in the boot, and all i had to do was buy some replacement speakers in the front, rear, and add couple amps and a sub. all up didn't take more than 4hours to change the entire setup. The only thing that took slightly longer was creating a custom box in the boot for the sub (and i still got the spare tire in the boot). Thank god for full sized spares in the E39.
  18. Woo, thanks for that, very detailed haha. What time do they usually gather. I'll either be in the highlander or dads 745i (hes away for 3 weeks so i get the car for 3weeks)
  19. We drove the outlander as well when we were looking for a 7 seater, and the outlander was crap and slow. Actually we test drove nearly all the new 7 seaters available at the time in Dunedin, the highlander was the roomiest in the 3rd row, and didnt lack in power (201kw LOL) + didn't cost as much as some of the other ones.
  20. LOL, it seems quite common for new families to buy E39's. When my wife got pregnant we got an E39 too, but 530 tho. Mines SILVER too, hahaha. And yeah it's so worth changing the rear lights to OEM clears (not altezza style). Used to be new style lights but amber, then we changed it to clear. looks so much better.
  21. Little OT here, Where does people in Christchurch gather on Friday/Saturday night anyway? Heading up to CHCH friday 13th might go and check out how bad it gets, might take some photo's of some turd doing stupid sh*t.. lol..
  22. Yeah i agree, it's not that your price is bad, its just that there is a lot more choices on the market right now with highly reduced pricing to move stock. Possibly hold for another 6months or so and see how the market is going ? Just a thought anyway.
  23. I still personally think that it is a bit unfair based on income, i think that is the reason why there is demerit points, so that it is fair for everyone. If you incur more than 100 points you lose your licence. I think that is pretty fair. And yes i would agree with impound of vehicle, if you have no licence and drive impound the vehincle for 30 days or more.
  24. Also i know for a fact my dad doesn't use cruise control.
  25. it doesn't work if your going down a hill now does it ?
