So here's a picture of the car that the SR came from. Features include: Rear hub brakes (perfect for slowing down a 2liter turbo powered car), shortened rear shocks (the rear wheel doesn't even leave the guard at full droop), a '3.5 k' gloss black paint job (with the original red still showing in the door frames, under the bonnet/boot etc etc), super shiftu lightu desu, and rare Advanti 17in rims. It's nice to have my car back in the driveway, we offered it as security while we installed my M20 into his black car, which we dubbed 'the gee-eee-thir-tee'. This d*ck basically left it uncovered the whole time and now my car is full of water on the passenger side. I really have to reseal the sunroof panel, the water comes in through a bolt hole which is slightly too large for the tiny bolt. Work on my car will begin in a couple of weeks. Current project is painting my flatmates awesome Super Carry. Sanding blooooows. And never have I seen so much bog from the factory.. This van has it everywhere under the original paint. It's going to be gun metal gray. Spot the E30. And if you go for a ride in a V10 R8, leave your head pressed against the head rest. Trust me.

I was singing it in my head while reading it just now, then your pic; ahaaa. Well played Ryan.

I have receipts totaling 5k for engine, gearbox, turbo 'pish' thing and air cooling bits, and custom engine/box mounts. Probably add another 1 for wiring and driveshaft and other bits. Will definitely need to move the brake booster if wanting to mount the engine back a bit. And will need a shifter linkage like what a 300ZX has apparently. Unless you do as JiB says

I see a MAP sensor.. Mmmmm pressure.
-
Epic OP! I'll add a bmw related image..

Oooooooo Dry sumped SR20det mounted underneath the dash. Link G4, anti-lag, and sequential shifter.

Enjoy those tweeter pods! You bastard. They are from a certain M325i which is now sporting flat, light tweeterless mirror backers. Get my note Jib?

I've been researching away in the background thanks to your suggestions James. I think it looks like a fantastic plug-in ECU untill a Link G4 can be made the Boss in the medium future. And thanks Nath No other updates. You shouldn't have clicked on my thread.

Hb son, do a responsible driving manner!
-
Ha yes Jono, your new M20 is the bottom left one. Don't take offense to the floor storage system Hmmm the mounts are quite simple, would be very easy to replicate.. Will explore for all interested after this exam study which is owning my life currently. And yes, 60,000km! Should be very trouble free for a long time.

Amazing combination for sure.. Cannot wait to hit some downhill corners and long sweepers with an even-better balanced car.. For a few weeks at least it will remain the stock 220hp or whatever it is. T28BB and injectors are on the to-do list. Aiming for hmmmmm maybe 200rwkw. Maybe less. Depending on how well the relatively soft suspension handles the power at runapuna. Some pics! Threads are sh*t without pics. Loom needs tiding, but apart from that the engine looks to be in great condition. It was purchased from Falsgrave engine importers here in chch for 3000. Done only 80,000km apparently!!! Spot the M20's. And so much for 75D solid engine mounts! I've crushed the f**k out of mine ahaa.

Love the bolt-in straight pipes!!!!!!!11

Wiring won't be bad, soooo much/many info/wiring diagrams/write ups for the SR it's insane! For the complicated fuse box wiring, we have a fantastic contact who is a SR wiring master. But at this stage it's a fingers crossed kind of thing ahaa. Scales are heading to the workshop this weekend to weigh both engines. I'll have a relatively accurate set of total masses of these 2 engines which should interest a few people here, and I tell you what, after swinging both engines on the engine hoist the M20 is in a different league of momentum.... I'm hoping for a for a 30% reduction (dreamer maybe, we'll see, but the mass centralisation of this motor is much better than a long iron 6, so that counts also). The current place where the engine sits is much, much too far forward for my liking. But it's the only place it can sit due to the shifter set up... it can't move, and the gearbox is ridiculously long. Eg: So where the motor sits on the brilliantly made mounts is where it must go for now, until summer at least when a shifter linkage, brake booster reduction/relocation and custom oil pan can be made. We are hoping to get it back 20-25cm. Will be more depending on legalities of firewall modification. So currently cylinders 1-2-3-4 are where the previous 2-3-4-5 were. But wow that vertical all-alloy block looks sexual, and full of promise. And yes haha, big front sway is already out, less camber coming, and I'll get a second set of springs which are more suited to the track. Probably followed by a rear sway delete after the excessive power oversteer this will achieve hahaha!

Sure did. Straight swap. Engine and all related bits for my engine and all related bits. I have: Alloy Rad Driveshaft hoops Shortened driveshaft. Gearbox mount Engine mounts Loom, ECU, AFM etc BOV and intercooler and piping etc etc etc The only tradeoff is we have to put the M20 in his car and get it running. And that's the story morning glory.

5-6 weeks minimum. Exams are on in 2 weeks. Then working all holidays ha. Doing a few other things too, like LSD shimming, E36 rack, and new booster and MC.

I'll do a word-filled update. Pics to come once I remember to take my camera with me to the workshop ahaa. So my M20 came out, then we pulled the SR out of the boy-racer-as-hell e30 it was going to run in, then put my, now ex, M20 in that car. It's nearly running, I have to cut off my round connector (I have one of those late prefacelifts with facelift electrics) by the fuse box and solder on the prefacelift square connector, need to match the wires properly though. just started looking for diagrams but if anyone knows this info it'd be great if you could share plzthanks.. Give me a bolt to turn any day rather than damn wiring! That took 4+5 hours in total. This week another M20 is going back together to bulk up the front of the touring. Then the SR will be dropped in at some stage next week. My car will be towed to a recommended SR-swap-wiring-sorting-out guy, and then we will have booooost.

Productive evening... And has the world ever seen this. This photo shall live in bimmersport infamy!!!!! The E30 Engine Bay Dragons. That's right. Plural. Nice shot my friend took....

Def get it, and a e30 targa car. Will talk more tomorrow while ignoring the chem lecturer
-
And change your 'cars you own' list haha!
-
And suddenly, all is right in the world. Make sure you get that car we saw today.

We are going to need more ducting.
-
So true Cam, so true. It's the only way to go on the limited budget I have. And the end results will be as good, if not better (handling anyway ), than a big v8 swap or M motor.. Brakes brakes. Current plans are to change the booster and MC to something that is newer, and maybe the location of these things... But will leave the calipers and rotors for now, the ducting works well for the 5-8 lap stints that this car does. I did some more driver training at the trackday that followed the crash one, and I tell you what; my hand didn't leave the vicinity of the handbrake. Never has a sphincter ever been so tight.

Yeah the pedals have moved back about 6in, same with the door and front wheel. Was a huge hit, as we hit the grass I knew the kitty litter wasn't going to help, skipiddy skip across and SLAM. Rather glad we weren't more sideways going into the litter though, we would have dug in and rolled multiple times into the neighboring paddock otherwise!! Next Motosoc track day is in July Engine will be out of my car this weekend.... And it's being put into another E30. Not looking forward to the wiring part of the job... And I'm afraid to say it is a SR20boyracerlumpDET from a S13. But the plus is it has come out of a E30 so all the mounts/exhaust and related bits are done! There will be piccytures and basic captions below the piccytures explaining what is happening in the preceding piccyture.

So I've been way too busy at Uni, f**king Engineering, learning heeeaps though. Car has really taken a backseat, biking is really ruling my life again. I have been taking it on the track though. Lots. Don't need a cert there hahaa! I will most likely have a different engine in this little gocart by the end of winter, cert comes then, so it's going to be a great summer of hillclimbs and club days.... The iron 6 is ruining the addition of critical corner speed. A picture! Been driving around with R888s since December. I don't think I could go back to road tires.. Also the so called 'excessive' camber is working beautifully, one thing that needs to change is spring rates; at least 50% firmer is required for more track devastation. Every time I get this car on the track it shocks and amazes people with it's cornering ability, but with firmer springs it could be much better. Sam and myself are sort of co-sharing the development of this vehicle for future race winning prospects, and learning lots on the way. More power is what this car needs, at the last track day we were both piloting this car around the 'puna and destroying all the typical fodder, REXs and 500hp 'tessas and RB's galour. And I had my first spin on the track!! And I learnt how to drift Rcomp tires in 3rd gear using inertia and a lot of balls haha. And I was in a massive crash in a Evo while I was doing some driver training. Not bad for first time doing proper driving training eh... hahaha. Took him out in my car first, then I went out in his car and he was trying to do silly things like brake at the turn-in point.. I was getting worried, started yelling BRAKE lots. Then we came down the straight, he didn't brake, we skipped across the kitty litter and hit the earth wall at 100kph or so. f**king ouch. My arm hit one of the metal and glass gauges on the dash and shattered it to bits. He put his head into the wheel. I knew we were going to crash, just knew it, on the preceding corners. I cannot comprehend what the hell this guy was thinking trying to, quote, 'brake real late and drift my evo'. Wanna see pics? If it was a concrete wall these damage pics would be much more impressive
