  1. Acouple of months back i spent a good half day cleaning and waxing the 540. That night, i parked my car at a friends house in Mt Eden (the cars boot was just about blocking the footpath, but there was still plenty of room to walk past it) the next morning i found a deep scratch (in to the undercoat/primer) that goes right across the trunk lid and on to the rear quater panel. The initial reaction was to hunt down the waste of oxygen and punch them in the neck, repeatedly. It's so annoying, and now i'm wondering if I should even bother fixing the scratch for it to only happen again. I had a quote for $600 to repair it, my insurance excess is $500. pain in the arse!!

  2. Glad you got it back Huttey!

For your info: all BMW E39s have a built-in factory immobiliser that CANNOT be bypassed.

No car thief can start the car without a key.

and if you have the CODE set, then he cannot start it even with the key.

The immobiliser is very sophisticated - it cannot be hotwired or bypassed. The only way to start the car is with an original key that is registered to the vehicles immobiliser system

Also, the E39 has 90% of the BMW alarm system fitted as standard - just add bonnet switch, tilt switch, siren, and interior sensor - the interior sensor is the hard part (head liner!)

and change the mirror to the one with the LED in it :-) - however any LED will do.

Adding an extra alarm only adds a flashing light and a siren. It offers no further drive-away protection

I would guess that your car was moved on a transporter.

    Thats good to know!!

  3. Are you serious? If a 2001- car with moderate KMâ€S is leaking oil and water already I would avoid the whole brand!! That’s discussing poor build quality right there. I have a 25 year old car that leaks neither and could be purchased for $500

yes, but you also have to factor in how the car's been treated.

  4. Welcome to the forum

I might like to also add, that , don't buy a vehicle without a pre purchase inspection. By the dealer or an independent BMW repairer who works on these vehicles. Do not get a check from anyone else ( no names ).

We see too many HORROR stories because of unproffesional or inaccurate inspections.

    Cheers

    Glenn

Take the Bimmer that's potentially going to be yours to this fella - I took my e39 528i for a pre-check and i was suprised to see they noted one of the rear speakers not working.. now thats a thorough inspection lol

  5. I dont think for the money you will spend on modding the intake/exhaust/ecu you will appreciate the gains (if any) compared to modding a turbo japper in the same way. These cars are pretty much as good as they can get out of the box.. unless you wanna get a supercharger kit $ :D $

If you want to open the v8 sound up a bit just pop in to a pit stop or any exhaust shop really and they should be able to help.

  6. That looks sh*t hot mate, nice stance, wheels and colour.

Would look cool with a German plate and a Snitttzzzzer (s) front and M boot lip, you could get it matched when you paint your boot.

Have considered the Shnitzel front lip but much like a schnitzel it well get beaten as the front bumper is already quite low.

Thinking about an m5 front bumper
