Hi Just got back from Dunedin, just as I was leaving the Orange engine light came on and car started idling very rough. Also not it's usual smooth self on the cruise back. The manual says - "Deterioration of exhaust emission control valves". What exactly does that mean? Is this a DIY fix or do I need to get my friendly local garage to fix... Thanks in advance Tim

It was a great day for the drive - torrential rain, sheets of water on the road in the morning for most of the trip. I had no problems when hitting water on the road steering felt good. And when things dried out tyres nice and quiet. Felt great when passing, car nice and stable. Had a great run back over the devils staircase, stuck like sh*t, so overall I think a great swap for the Michellens. I think I got a good deal $1300 fitted... Will have to see how they wear.

The car is newly shod, got a drive to Queenstown today, so that should settle them in nicely! Will report back on impressions of the Falkens

Thanks for the feedback everyone... Gonna give the Falkens a go - hopefully will get them on the car next week (have to come down from Auckland).

Failed the WOF seems like the 540 needs a bit of love new front discs and pads. But needs 3 new tyres, so might as well do 4. I'm on Michelin Pilots but think I'll give the Falkens a try. I've got 275/40/18 on the back and 245/35/18's on the front, the rears hit the wheel arch so think I'll go to 265/35/18's Ordering them tomorrow, any last minute advice just in case there is a better option... Hi all The local MR2, Clubsub and Otago/Southland BMW club had a trackday last Saturday down here in Invers. Sun was out and a fantastic day which was really well run. There were 4 bimmers there, with me being the only local. The rest were from Dunedin we had a 130i, 635csi, 316i and my 540. Tons of MR2's, WRX's a couple of evo's all up about 40 cars. Mark had his camera so here are a couple of pics of the 540. I'll try and extract some video from my handicam too. I love my 540 so pleased I got a V8 it stuck like sh*t to the track and made the best noises... managed 10MPG

Congrats Great purchase, I've done 5000Kms in mine in last 6 weeks since I've had it, it is so sweet to drive. I also notice my wife takes it whenever she gets a chance. I'm finding the power and noise addictive and passing cars (multiple!) has moved onto another planet.

Just dropped the reserve for the coupe - see if $11K sparks any interest...

I'm pretty sure they pull off and you click the metal trim ones on (once you've found them - Ebay?)

lI'm really impressed with the petrol consumption. I went to Dunedin on Friday got 27 MPG (10.4/110km) very wet so cruised up. I had a "spirited" drive back on dry road = 25 MPG = 11.2l/100km Pretty much the same as my 3 litre Outback and makes my old 3.5l V6 Mitsi challanger look like it had a drinking problem (18mpg on a good day)

That drive is the best isn't it. Yep It's the 4.4 beautiful bit of engineering.

In 3rd with foot thru floor - it makes the best sound - opps thats inside the car. It sounds like there is something going on the outside too!

Buy a 540! I love my new car its got MSport bits on it handles great, cruises great and makes the 328 seem sluggish!
