About your window/mirror problem.I found this post. http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=671009 Drivers door lock sounds like the door lock actuator might be had it. Heres a vid on removing the door panel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXQoBOL0l0M There are a couple of posts on e38.org for replacing the rear door acuators. Same process for the front just easier to access on the front door. There is a tab on one side of the acuator, holding the acuator onto the door lock. Press it with a screwdriver and the acuator will pop off the door lock. The tabs on the lock mechanism that slot into the actuator will guide you for the replacement of the acuator. Oh, and unless you like nasty suprises disconnect the battery first. As to tyre's I have 255's on the front and 275's on the rear. The problem with swapping side to side is that most decent tyre's these days are directional so you cant just swap the wheels from one side to the other.. You could spend the money and have the tyres removed from the rims and then swapped but as long as you've had a wheel allignment done regularly tyre wear shouldn't be to much of a problem. Personally as they're a heavy car and I do like to be a bit aggresive into the corners sometimes I like to have a good set of tyres gripping the road for me.

If we're talking comfort for yourself and your pasengers plus a classy looking ride and money's not an option then I'd have a E38 740i, 6 speed manual with a Dinan SC. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3E1lNkkrjd4 Or even better a E38 750il, 6 speed with twin turbo's. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XunY7hZWvuI All the power you'd want plus the comfort of the ultimate 7 series.

I'd go with this.. Looks good and stands out. And easy as you already have the silver base.

The first three results from the google search I posted for you leads to all the information you should need. Also as posted by Jason H e38.org is a great tool. I would say all the answers you've been given so far have been consructive and positive. Like I said before.. You're going to have to do some research yourself to find the answers you want. Same as your question about the Meyle Shocks. 5 mins on google and I've got all the answers I need. https://www.google.co.nz/#q=meyle+shocks+any+good

Try it. Its a wonderful tool. In the time it took to write your respnse above you could've google'd EDC and been getting the answers you want. Short answer to your question is unplug the EDC shocks and fit aftermarket Non EDC shocks. https://www.google.co.nz/search?q=BMW+E38+edc+removal&source=lnms&sa=X&ei=1wXyU6fYDc_h8AXpk4GYCA&ved=0CAUQ_AUoAA&biw=1024&bih=677&dpr=1#q=BMW+E38+edc+removal+delete If you want to get into the E38 as a DIY'er your gonna have to do some research dude.

suspension on a budget 7 series
kulgan replied to 728besitzer's topic in Brakes, Suspension & Steering
Depends what you want too. Do you just want to refresh your stock ride and height or lower it and make it feel a bit stiffer? Also I doubt you'd find suspension sets off newer cars that would fit our e38's. I wanted mine a bit lower so bought a new set of lowering springs from a guy on Trademe. He'd sold his car so no longer needed them. I put them over the original SED shocks and it all works fine(for now). I'm aware that lowering the original shocks will wear them out quicker but unlike regular shocks the SED get stiffer not softer. Sometime next year I'll invest in some bilstein shocks for the 740. Another option for you could be coilovers Or hunt out the parts cars on trademe and try to get replacements off those. Again it really depends on what you want and why.. -

Suck's when this sort of thing happens. Getting towards the end of last summer I overheard a workmate saying he was looking for hay bales. Knowing he has a farmlett with some stock I said he could help himself to some of mine. Couple of days later I see his car and trailer leaving my place and it looked like he had the Eifle Tower on his trailer it was stacked so high. About a week later my step sister tells me she bought some cheap hay for her horse from a workmate of mine. Guess who had been selling the bales he got from me for free. Bars--rd..

Aftermarket / Performance M60B40 ECU chipping.
kulgan replied to sonic_attack's topic in Performance
Hey there. I have the DUDMD tune in my car and luv it. He wont just sent you a chip. He'll send you the DME so you just pull your old one, plug in the new one, start her up and drive away. Took me all of 5 minutes to install in my E38 and I noticed the difference immediately. It pulled a lot harder from a standing start and way more tourqe right through the rev's. As to the savings in fuel. My km's per liter dropped at first but that was more from me constantly enjoying the extra performance..lol Before the tune I had an average of 6.7km per litre. Now I'm averaging 7.4. There aren't that many perfomance options out there for our cars. Unless you want to spend 7 grand and go for the supercharger so for $250 I think this is a lot of bang for the bucks. Looking forward to an update and seeing what you think. -
WElcome to the forum. Nice ride you have there.

I might be biased but I still think the E38 was the last good looking 7 series. And as for value for money you couldn't get better. If you put a E65 and a E38 side by side at the same price I'd still choose the E38.
