  1. Haha nah your comment is cool, i went from 16's to 18's on my e36 and it has thrown my speedo slightly (the overall rolling diameter is slightly higher, but still within 5% of the orginal) With 17x7 wheels and more than likely 215x40x17 they should be roughly the same as the 14's with a higher profile tyre! (195x65x14) With 215x40x17 the is less than 1% diff, and 205x40x17 about a 2% diff. Below is the pic of my engine bay, can anyway confirm that it is infact a 316i engine.
  2. Yeah i tried that and realoem.com and they both give the same details: Vehicle code 1394 Series E30 Model 318i ( 318i M10 ) Body type saloon Catalog model JAP Production date 1985 / 10 Engine M10 Transmission Automatic Steering Right Catalyzer YES But when i checked my ecu, it is a jetronic which according to the manual is only the 316i, and the pic of the engine is the same as 316i!! I think i'll post a pic of the engine bay!
  3. Haha thanks, yea she's a beauty, and i'm liking the silver (black would have been nicer) but at least silver doesn't show up all the marks! Yeah there is some room there haha, we do have to house 5 cars at the least though, 4 beemers and my work car, whatever it is (in the photo it is the xr8) All it means is more room to start collecting parts and more bmw's!! Slightly off topic here but anyway. I'm looking at putting some 17x7 wheels on her, maybe 215x40x17 tyres. The pcd is 4x100, am i right in the knowledge the offset is around 20-25 without the use of spacers?? Also what kind of drop can i do with just springs? i.e not changing shocks as well, i've been told around -40mm before shocks need replacing, with shortened versions?
  4. So i just recently (a couple of weeks back) i laid my hands on this little stunner!! She joins the driveway with 3 younger sisters (all e36's) She's badged and registered as a 318i, however lookin at the handbook, engine, ecu (jetronic) etc it is a 316i engine?? maybe someone can enlighten me? Its an '86 prefl auto.... imported in '95 to nz. Has 212,000 on the clock and runs sweet as, body is immaculate too. Went straight through a wof, with just the front tyres and brakes bein mentioned for the future. I have a few plans but they will be later on.....
  5. Got it sorted monday! Repco, supercheap and everywhere else i tried never had one, so ended up getting it from jeff gray for a sweet $10!! And she's running sweet now! Thanks
  6. Does anyone have a sump plug, or even better a magnetic one for an e36, with m52 engine?? whilst doing an oil change, we put old one with new ring back on and it sheered off - we managed to get the thread out, but now i need another!! If anyone in welly has one i would be keen, cos i need it asap, otherwise it'll be a call to jeff gray bmw tomorrow and what i'm sure will be silly money for a plug!! Also out of curiosity are the plugs the same for the e30's and 36's? i'm under the assumption they are? my plug is of similar diameter to an m12 sized bolt. thanks.
  7. Does it come with the bottom splitter? and will it fit a coupe? If so i would be very very very keen!!!
  8. Very true, i am running 18x8 all round with 235/40 tyres. The fronts rub slightly on full lock, the rears are fine - this is with mspec suspension.
  9. Nah man, i went down there on tuesday and they still haven't got them in and it turns out they had them for the wrong price ie: they got charged for them then put their mark up on, which came to like $155, and they said the price was wrong and is going up and will be more like $4-500!! So i won't be getting it too soon if its that price!

    e36 wheels

on the 18x8's i was thinking 235x40x18 and on the 18x9 prob 255x35(i think!)x18 and i think the offset is 35?
  11. I'm getting a set of TSW Mondellos for my e36 323i coupe. I'm looking at either 18x8 all round or 18x8 on the front and 18x9 on the back. Does anyone know if i will have any issues with guard rubbing etc. My car has M-tech suspension, and the standard l/alloy 16x8 wheels fit nicely in the arches. Any help with this would be grately apprieciated.

    E36 323

Yep if its an import it more than likely will be the 'nissan one' and if its nz new it will be 'zf'. A common prob - which is what happened to mine ('96 323i Coupe import) is flaring between 2nd/3rd, and if you haven't got a warrenty can be very expensive. Mine was fully re-coned and the bill was around the $3k mark!!
  13. nah mine is ordered from cpa (petone/lower hutt), and yeah they're outa stock too - they reckon around 3-4 weeks, cos they have to fill a container before it gets sent!
  14. Looking good - what springs did you use? And what size rims are they?
  15. Are these boxes really that loud?? I was also looking at putting one (euro stylee flat oval) on my e36 323i. To be honest its mainly for looks and for a bit more noise, not too worried about power increase. Has anyone put one on a 2.5ltr?? Also what sort of cost should i be lookin at to get it installed? After a quick glance under the car i notice i have a single entry in the rear box - wsould i be right in thinking its 2.25in? and it would marry up to 2.25in entry back box? The link below is what i'm lookin at. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...873837.htm?p=36 Thanks.
  16. I've got a simota carbon style one on order, price seemed good for what it is - $150. I'll let you know how it goes in mine, e36 323i, once it arrives and i install it.
  17. The slushbox is 'flaring' mainly between 2nd/3rd - when it changes up to 3rd it disengages 2nd then over revs by as much as 1000rpm (especially under load ie. goin uphill) then clicks into 3rd. it is also doin in between 3/4 and 4/5 but not that noticable. Update: its goin into get fixed on monday, i took it to another place and the guy knew exactly what it was - seems a common prob with this gearbox (the 'nissan' one) and it appears to be the high-end clutch plate is stuffed/worn and it should be covered under warranty! Thanks to all that helped with their input on this! sadly the slushbox will be stayin in the car for some time now - at least she'll be healthy tho!
  18. If anyone could help me out it would be much apprieciated. I would like to know if anyone has done, or knows anyone that has done a man conversion on an e36 coupe. My auto trans is flaring and it looks like there may be a possibility the warranty people won't cover it, so i'm thinkin if its not too much more i might as well change to a man. If anyone has any contacts of people who have done this or have a rought idea what kind of cost is involved it would good to have something to go on. Also if anyone knows what the most likely cause of the flaring is, or have had this prob that would be great too. From what i know so far it seems it is prob the bands that are knackered, and the warranty guys will put that down to wear and tear, which means i have to fork out mucho $$$. The car is an e36 '96 323i coupe. Only done 53500k's, bought 6mths ago, and only done 2700k's since i got it! As you can imagine i am slightly pissed! Cheers!

No worries - if you still want the tops i got mine from this guy, they're a pretty good fit, delivery was prompt, well wrapped etc. Just make sure he knows you want e36 coupe uppers, cos he sells most models 2/4 drs. Oh and he'll discount if you buy more than one thing i also got my lip spoiler and roof spoiler from him. by the way i am in no relation to this guy, just passing on what was good service! good luck with it! http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...3924233.htm?p=4

    FS: 1992 e36 320i

nice ride, i think i've seen it around the hutt. i know its a bit off-topic but where did you get your badges from? trade me? and did you black-out the rears yourself?
  24. dude that sounds exactly like what i had. it turned out to be the bearings in the idle pulley! which was about $114 for a new pulley, not sure what labour was, i payed about $90, but that was with putting 2 new belts in as well. hope this helps!
