    Now being hosted by Hellbm.

    Hi Ray,
I'd be keen to help out with trying to drive more activity on the Bimmersport site - and facebook page, I'm finally back in the BMW game (as a passion, not just a daily) after a long hiatus - having kids, selling the pride & joy, building a house, getting screwed over by the builder going into liquidation! Lol - long story there. But I'm back in the hot seat with a 135i, and plans for some minor mods. I also work at Meguiar's NZ (Smits Group) as marketing manager - so would love to support the Bimmersport community with a club discount code, and all the car care knowledge I can offer (been in that game 15 years) I also have graphic design, digital design and marketing experience which could come in handy.  I'm also on the Ellerslie Concours committee, and would love to be associated with a 'club' as committee members, are not paid for their hard work, but their clubs can benefit from having an appointed committee member.

I'm Dan. I think I met him when he came back from Europe. Long time ago now.

Yeah probably around the same time I met him. Funny such a small world! I used to work with Leon at European Autospares, which is where I met Anton. A loooooonnnnnng time ago! Lol

Welcome back.  I think your old man got me into importing cars like 25 years ago.
The E82 is a great platform for some fun.  They cross over with the E87's a lot so there is plenty of info on here.

Oh small world! Yes Loving the E82, and hoping that the crossover with E87's includes coilovers, lol I have a set to install from an E87 :D

  4. He's still got it, I used to work with him, he's moved back to Zimbabwe, but visits NZ every 6 months or so. He bought it out for a drive to my place, sadly what he wanted for it, was out of my budget, so I've had to move on - and I feel the 135i was a great compromise - it makes me happy! That's what counts.

What BMW club/s is everyone involved with - looking for a reasonably active club to take part in. I'm on the Ellerslie Concours Committee, trying to ignite the fire beneath that and appeal to a larger audience. Being on the committee and representing a car club has financial benefits for the club.

  5. I'm Shantelle (aka Shorty) – long-time BMW fan and former E36 328i owner. It’s been around 9 years since I was last active on Bimmersport – life got busy! I sold the E36 when I had my first daughter, and since then, I've welcomed a second daughter, built a house, and finally found myself back behind the wheel of a fun weekend toy.

I’m now the proud owner of a 2010 E82 135i with DCT – black, sleek, and such a joy to drive. First thing I did was give it a full paint correction using Meguiar’s products (I’m the marketing manager at Smits Group, so naturally, I’m lucky enough to use and market products I genuinely love).

I recently picked up a set of 19" BBS CH104s – they’re not quite the right offset, but I’m hoping to get them machined and refinished. They're a bit rough (and buried under about three coats of black), so I’m tossing up a new colour – leaning towards bronze... but we’ll see where I land.

I've already got coilovers ready to go on and have started the DIY journey – tackled an oil and filter change myself, and took the car to Juned at Manukau Vehicle Servicing for a DCT service, rear brake pads, and a new radiator (after a surprise leak – fun!). Mechanically it's now solid, and I’m really looking forward to getting out and enjoying it.

Once the wheels and suspension are sorted, the car will be re-registered as LOWBMW – a bit of a throwback for those who remember my old E36 with the same plate!

Keen to reconnect with the community and get inspired again – good to be back!

First two photos are pre-paint correction, car had definitely taken on a grey hue. Also my drivers door has had a VERY terrible paint job - on the list of things to fix.

  7. So the car is sorted now, got a new clutch and flywheel, went with a single mass.. and wow the power I was loosing is insane, one of those things, you don't really realise until it's fixed.

I also recently spend a couple hours in the garage and changed the PCV valve, wasn't as hard as the guys had made it out to be, haha now they owe me a box of beers! Have also recently upgraded suspension to a set of coilovers..

And now only one more thing to add to my list is fixing my rocker cover gasket leak...

She also got a full cut, polish and wax 2 weekends ago :)

The lastest project was also turning our future family wagon (E46 330i touring) into a manual version of it's former self, bigger task then we had anticipated, but thanks to Juned at Manukau Vehicle Servicing, we are all sorted and now the E46 is a car we love to drive.

  8. Solid flywheels are fine if you are looking to hot the car up but it would be the last item  on my list after --  headers, cams,  air intake mods, then remap .

If you are not planning  the above then there is no real benefit in going to a lighter or single mass fly wheel.

You get noisier gearbox, more engine and drive train vibration and more gearbox wear  for what?

The transformation on the X5 was staggering like rattley old shitter to new car

Cool thanks. No plans for cams/headers/intake at this stage. I mean I would love to... but the budget doesn't stretch that far at the moment

  9. Hmm yes it's a road car, daily driver. before I got it 4.5 years ago the clutch had apparently been done but I have no proof of that, and to be fair they could have done it a long time before selling it. Will research more options and put my order on hold

  10. I agree with Ron. Solid clutch is viable but not with the clutch kit youv'e probably got as far as I know. I did mine, but you would need to trade in your right arm to do it my way

Clutch kit hasn't arrived yet still time to change

  11. Depends on how many kilometres are on the fly wheel.

The Dual mass flywheel  systems get sloppy after high k's and replacing the flywheel transforms engine smoothness, gear changing and reduces gearbox vibration/ chatter.

Just done the X5 flywheel and clutch at 260,000 km and  the fly wheel was well poked- new everything means it now drives like a petrol manual  car not a clunky diesel truck.

My 328 is at 242,000km and pretty sure the dual mass fly wheel is getting a bit tired as well but the clutch should do another 100,000 km so I am 'living with it' .

So answer for you - yes you can probably skim the fly wheel - should you ?  no probably not.

If its done over 150,000km - replace the whole lot clutch/ cover & flywheel

Cool thanks yeah she's done 210,000 kms. Is there a solid flywheel conversion? Pros and cons?

  12. Hey guys,
I have just ordered a clutch kit minus the flywheel, as there isn't much life left in my clutch :( anyway, it have just ordered a standard clutch kit - nothing special, however, I have no idea what the condition of the current flywheel is so I'm wanting to look at flywheel options.

    Car is: 328i E36 M52B28

I have been told that you can get the flywheel skimmed, but have also been told that because it's a dual mass flywheel you can't get it skimmed... So just wondering what my options are and what you recommend?

I don't want to spend a ton of money, however, if the clutch is being done, I might as well get it done right the first time.

Also how hard is this as a DIY? - probably a stupid question, but have done 3 manual conversions - so I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty :) and I'm always up for a challenge when it comes to cars/maintenance/repairs

  13. Thanks! :) (It's the E36 that needs it) It apparantly had a clutch done in it not long before I bought it, but the release point was always quite high. So I assume maybe the flywheel wasn't done at that time, if the clutch was actually even replace (no paperwork) Oh well, will be a fun job learning more about my car.

Glenn what sort of alternative set up would you recommend?

  14. Anyone know:
    a) how much a standard clutch kit is? and
    B) where I can get one from..

Mine has just started to slip, so thinking I had better do some research now and start getting the money together for it. I don't need anyone to install it, I have that part covered, and I'm not looking to upgrade to a high performance or anything.

    Thanks in advance.

  15. :(

Good old Brobaroos. My one that your old man brought into the country for me got nicked too.
I remember a customer of his at the time purchased a coupe that he had built up into a V5 STI. They parked somewhere on the way home from buying it and it was stolen. No insurance.
That was a long time ago though.

ahh yea. dad told me about some uni student who bough one from dad drove it home left it on garage all weekend took it to uni on the Monday, went to get paper work out of it at morning tea so he could organise insurance... it was gone. poor dude

Ha just remembered a teacher of mine who was from the UK bought a Subi off dad, and decided to ship it to the UK, dad told him not to just drop it at the wharf, but to drive it into the container and watch it be locked up.. He didn't do that, car arrives in the UK with a blown engine, smashed windscreen and the bonnet fold back on the roof..
