Hi all, hope you had a great xmas. I did, managed to get my car back ready to strip for parts, will add some photos to the for sale section. And I picked up a 1998 E46 318i sedan for super cheap.. The car has had a second hand engine installed, and not long after that the transmission apparantly crapped out. Which is fine by me as I will convert to manual if the trans had died. Went to pick the car up yesterday it is a complete mess, needs a lot of elbow grease, and it had a flat battery which had been disconnected. Took dad and his 5 series, a spare charged battery, jumper leads and a jumper pack. connected the charged battery, lights come on.. no start. Used all other methods mentioned above... no start. All the lights come on, air con, radio etc all work, so there is definitly enough power. Yet turn the key and the starter motor doesn't even try to kick it over. Almost as if the engine has been immobilised. The central locking doesn't work, not sure if the battery in the key is flat or whether that is another issue as the red led on the key flashed when i pressed the button.. Do I need to reset something? Help Please

I can't remember what I thought the issue was the first time.. I was at work and it was pouring with rain, and the water was leaking into the front of the car through the firewall. Anyway the car wouldn't start so towed it home, and pulled the bonnet off and the cowl pannel, and what do i find, water. The drainage system was blocked, so I pulled the rubber over flow tubes out, and unblocked them, stuck them back in and emptied out the drain. The reason for the car not starting was that the water had leaked through into the ECU chamber, and the ECU had managed to get water inside. I pulled that out, had an auto electrician look at it, and put it in hot water cupboard to dry it out.. sealed it up, and plugged it back in and magic, she started, purred, and was completely fine. Never had an issue since.. Until the 4th December when I wrote her off.. She is now sitting in my garage waiting to be stripped for parts.

Yea dad still bring in the odd car every now and then, but he's going through the mini phase again.. and I mean old skool mini's lol.. Mum drives a 2007 1 series so shes happy with that for now. I don't have an AMG Merc, probably wouldn't mind one though. Dad's 5 series seems to tow alright, he has had to do the trans in it though, but the one I'm interested in has just had that done. So may be a goer, until I can afford a V8 Commodore and a E46 or E30 M3 lol.. By the way those that are interested in any parts from my coupe, let me know, bear in mind that the front is pretty much gone or anyone interested in the manual conversion hit me up with an offer I can't refuse and will look in to getting that out of her first.

We bought a boat last year around March, took it out every chance we got over winter - there were some mint days.. Took it out today, got a few snapper... we head out from Kawakawa bay to the back of Waiheke or to Coromandel, takes about 40 mins (if its rough) to get there.. still looking for our "secret" fishing spot, but we always at least bring home dinner lol yum!
-
Yea I could have bought something in i guess, but last time it cost me too much lol.. may look in to an e39 to tow the boat.

My baby is coming home for Christmas (well hopefully for Christmas!)
-
Try the warehouse I got mine from there on the release date for $97 Will post the id when I log on next, as I can't remember it, one of the boyfriends mates set it up and gave a stupid name!
-
I spoke to them, have sent them my signed papers, but I am waiting for them to get back to me with a salvage price. Hopefully hear back tomorrow.. Otherwise, may just have to let her go, its getting way to close to Christmas and I need the money to find a car over xmas if I don't get the wreck back.
-
Yea I thought it was quite weird! Will have a chat to them on Monday.

Cool thanks guys, just wanted to make sure I wasn't getting ripped off

The problem with BMW's is that the market has such huge variences in it.. They offered 5,800 for it, but my excess is 700 which sucks, however, with a bit of luck they stuffed that up.. (I was under the impression that my excess was $450) Plus because I noted on my policy that i had a stereo system in there they took $1000 off the claim, but the stereo isn't worth that much, so will have to see what I can do there, maybe just give it back to them! I would have thought the car was worth around the $6500 mark...

I couldn't really bear to look at my baby in that state for too long, bought tears to my eyes.. But I don't think it pushed anything back into the engine, the radiator didn't leak at the accident site or anything, the car ended up up the kerb which smashed the wheel and in a powerpole, which was on the outside of the front chassis rail, so it wrecked the front bumper, grille pannel, left front headlight, the spotlights popped out as did the indicators on both sides, the bonnet is bent and the left front guard is squashed and pushed back, from memory the passanger door didn't get pushed back far at all - still opened and closed fine, didn't look closely at the alignment of it The manual gear box would sell for pretty good coin too i would imagine, being a 6cyl one. The interior, wasn't immaculate, possibly sellable, but personally I wouldn't buy it. Well unless I got a really good deal for it! The engine had done high km's but Beemers go forever and ever (almost) and the engine had no issues, it used a lil bit of oil, and smoked a wee bit, but thats expected from a car that has done 208,000km Boy I loved that car!
-
I have thought about this, I have a garage at home, and was thinking that I could do this over the Christmas break, the damage was all frontal, so would depend on what the insurance company wants for it. Also destroyed the left fron mag and most likely the left front shock

Hey guys, Just need to know if anyone can help me here? I wrote my baby off almost two weeks ago (I cried myself to sleep 3 nights in a row) I have just received my settlement amount (haven't signed for it yet) I feel that my car is worth a wee bit more then the insurance company. Would anyone be able to give me a written valuation? Most of you would be in my kind of mind frame as we all LOVE BMW! My baby's details: 1994, 325i coupe, manual, with dove grey leather interior (no rips, however the leather had a couple cracks in it and wear marks) I had lowered it on koni shocks and springs, with 19 inch wheels, and the tyres were only 6months old. The exterior had an M3 spoiler, and a motorsport front bumper with the black lip on the bottom, factory style clear front indicators, and tail lights oh and tinted windows. The car was a beautiful dark purple colour, looked black in certain light. Please help me, my one wish this christmas is to be able to have my car back, or something absolutely similar!

um it took about 2-2.5 hours.

1. 1976 Mini, the yellow one in the middle of the pic, that was my first car, was auto when I purchased it with blown gear box, Dad and I converted it to manual and replaced the 1000cc engine with a 1300. The car was SH*T BROWN. Paid $250 for it, and sold it 2 years later for $1500. Sold it because I wanted an E30. 2. 1989 E30 318is coupe, 5sp Manual, paid $3600 for this car, loved it to pieces, kept it for about 3 years then wanted a E36 with a 6cyl engine. I lowered this car on Jamex springs, put an aftermarket bodykit on it, and some 17 inch rims. (Wish I could have kept it and had an E36) Sold it for $4900, and cried myself to sleep the night it left me. 3. 1993 Black E36, 325i auto coupe. Bought this one damaged, paid $6000 for it with the parts to fix it, towed it home, and had it back on the road, new door and sill repainted in 3 days. I put 18 inch rims on this one, it had an exhaust system - Love the sound, but I wanted a Manual.. 4. 1998 Silver E36 318is Coupe Auto, so I imported this one, damaged from Japan, while it was off the road being repaired, i purchased an Motorsport bodykit and a manual conversion kit for it, did the manual conversion at home in the garage with dad, in 2 and a half days. Put some 18 inch rims on it and lowered it, drove this one around for about 2 and a half years. Loved it nearly as much as the E30... But I love my Subaru's aswell...and when my next car caught my eye, I traded my beemer for it. 5. 1998 White Subaru Forester, I wanted a subaru, I love the sound that the boxer engine makes with a big bore on it, so I went for a turbo forester. Lowered it and put 17 inch rims on it.. Loved it, but then purchased a house, and didn't want to park my subaru outside, while my boyfriend and our border took the garage for their 2001 wrx sti and 2004 subaru forester sti's so I sold it and purchased probably the worst car of my life! 6. 1996 blue/silver Toyota Starlet Glanza. 5spd Manual, turbo. I lowered it and put 17 inch rims on it, but I still wasn't happy.. hahaha and I can't even find a photo of it! Sold this beast for $5000 7. 1994 purple 325i Manual coupe, purchased for $4200, has dove grey leather, motorsport front bumper, and that beautiful 6cyl sound, I purchased some 19 inch rims for it, for $800 (they were too wide) sold them for $1000 and purchased another set for $800 then mum and dad got me a set of lowered koni shocks and springs for xmas, so she looks good

With a few slight changes this one would actually look really cool, like remove that stupid uni-brow thing and the bags under its eyes, then it would look all good
