Just a wee update. The injector computer was finished today, they had a bit of trouble finding the RPM signal wire but luckily I found out where it is on Bimmer Forums (pin 1 on diagnostic plug, or pin 20 on the plug behind the tachometer). There's a bit of a coolant leak, I think it may be from the radiator as there's no coolant around the water feed taps :-/... Edit: Just a radiator bung, phew . Dyno on monday .

Yeah that's one of our main concerns. I've got a few pics of intake manifolds that I've given to the fabricator so a proper one shouldn't be too far off...

I've got some more pictures, it's pretty much done . We turned the car on for the first time yesterday and it ran perfect, which is definably a bonus. The exhaust wasn't on and it sounded like a Harley , but I didn't get a video . The computer is getting done next week so she'll be up and running early next week I assume, then I'll get some videos and a dyno sheet. Here's a fairly high-res picture of the engine: Here's what the front looks like: I've had to lose the fog lights and put caps there instead, but it doesn't look too bad I don't think. I'll get them painted eventually... The best part is that the intercooler is well hidden so that will deflect the eyes of a few cops and maintain a stock look. I'm thinking of getting a personalized number plate, anyone got any good ideas? I'm thinking "M3TRBO" but I dunno...

Of course, but these are just rough figures I've been told .

Anyone in Christchurch want a cheap e36 m3 exhaust? I just want to get rid of it, it has been sitting in my garage for ages now and serves me no purpose. It has a few cracks and a bit of rust and stuff that I suggest you check out, but I think it just needs a quick weld which Magoo will do pretty easily/quickly. It's on my mates trade me if you wanna see pics: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=124261164 Text me on 027 668 7199 with your offer if you're interested . Cheers.

As I've said, it's only running very low boost with the current setup. We're talking 5-6psi on a cold day. Once I get the right injector/ECU setup it will run 7-8psi which will be a good balance. If I ruin the stock compression ratio then it will ruin the whole effect of the car, it pulls hard in 5th at 50kmh which is what I will be driving at 90% of the time anyway (honestly ). Maybe when I can afford an e46 m3 I'll make the e36 into a monster hp car . With the Link ECU, does it plug straight in or do you need to buy all their sensors? The Microtech one "plugs" straight in, and the guy that had a large input into its design will do the tuning. As for the cost of things so far, it has been about 10k in kit and 2k in labour. I'll find out if it's all worth it next week...

Hey guys, got some new pics: BOV hooked up (but not connected): Turbo with heat protection: Front of the turbo/intake: Manifold heat protection: We're looking at it all being finished by the weekend, with next week everything being checked over before I get it back
-
I would like to start lowering the compression ratio and get forged pistons but it in an ever-day driver (even though I only drive every second day) I don't want it to be a peak-hp car. How much does the link ECU go for? I could probably afford to order one next week...
-
So you guys would recommend Link? My car is s50b30 btw.
-
Wish I could have been there, but had a lack of car . That e30 M3 would have to be my favorite.
-
No we are not replacing the ECU, we are running another computer that will deal with the injectors and the extra fuel needed.
-
The computer will be adding fuel based on RPM/Boost, I don't really see how this will run lean. If you know something I don't then please share .
-
The way the injectors are at the moment is definably temporary. When I get the cash injectors/ecu will be the first on my list. As for the ECU, MicroTech has been recommended so I'll probably go with that.

E36 M3 Twin Turboo
ecko_complex replied to TwinTurboM3's topic in Forced Induction & Performance Tuning
What happened to their 10000000hp kit? And of course it will fit a RHD M3... -
Ok here's some new pictures: The intercooler is mounted/hooked up to the turbo: Top view of engine with a bit of explanation of bits: Fuel pressure regulator/extra injectors:

Yeah it would be a heck of a lot easier with a SC, I considered going down that path but theres much more potential with a turbo system. If you do plan on ever going turbo be prepared to go without your car for quite a while, mines been gone for about four months now . I've got some more pictures that I'll resize and post tonight.

I'm sure the engine will be fine on 5psi. It's no back yard project, quite a lot of people are involved that know exactly what they're doing and have done similar things hundreds of times before. But if it blows up - it blows up, then I'll get a m52b28 and turbo that. Hybrid, could you send me some information/prices in a PM. Thanks .

Yeah it's an extremely tight fit, the AC had to go to make room and it's coming up to summer . For extra fuel I'm just running two extra injectors. At a later date when I get a proper ECU I will get six big injectors. As for HP numbers, initially we're looking at about 400-450hp. It will get put on the dyno when it's done, but it will be the very early stages and will be running very low boost (5-6psi). I'm still deciding if I want to make it a big HP car, which I probably will once I get it back .

Where abouts?

Hi every one, I've been browsing for a while (6 months+) and thought I'd finally write up on my car and how everything is going. The car: (don't worry, I've since put on clear indicators) The turbo: The turbo manifold: But we ran into a problem, the manifold was much too large and got in the way of the steering column. So the car got sent off to RE Sinclair and they cut up the stock manifold and made the down-pipe. So here's what the engine bay looked like last week: I will post up some more pics on monday/tuesday as a lot more work has been done since then.

There's a company just out of Hamilton called "SD European", they do a direct swap for about $3500. Make sure you change out the differential if you plan to drive above 80kmh a lot though, but the stock auto diff means for some pretty quick acceleration.

e36 . Thats not my car in the avatar, just a cool E46 pic I found on Google.

I got a set of these myself, they are a great upgrade. It even came with bulbs and everything.

Awesome tool, used it for years: http://www.autogk.me.uk/

If that's a 320i then I've seen that guy before when going down Bealey ave.
