  1. Yusssss It's done! Page said not to replace all them bolts and washers unless they are cracked so I didn't. Got p/s fluid off them though cheers Paul. Bentley manual says it takes 1200ml but I'd say it was closer to 900-1000? Took it for a drive around the Karori back streets and its nice, although whether it is better than before is debatable as its been over 3months since I last drove it It's like I'm bonded to it now I don't want to sell it! Thanks for all the help peeps. Wicked I just won the torque wrench for $54

  3. Maybe its just me but imageshack is really laggy compared to the bucket.
  4. go to www.photobucket.com and make a profile/album/register In your photobucket album hit "browse" and locate the pic of wheels. Upload it. When it appears in your album copy the 4th URL down labeled "IMG code". It will start with .
  5. Hmm... I though it was too small... thats why I asked. If hes right its a bitch cause my sockets are 3/8. ok so I don't need one now but I want one anyway. A 1/4 drive torque wrench isn't as useful as a 3/8 or 1/2 drive aye? Because when doing really heavy bolts that need torquing like in the engine one needs the extra strength of a bigger drive am I right? Cheers Edit - btw anyone got a torque wrench for sale / know of one? on the off chance
  6. Place your bets. I'm guessing 13
  7. Whats a nylock nut? #7 here? and #9 here? cheers mike, you are the win as has been said before.
  8. Got it in. Now just need to tighten up all the bolts - is a torque wrench necessary or just do em all up good and tight? There are torque specs in the bentley manual (arrived from amazon Wednesday before last which was in half the time they quoted thanks amazon). What bolts/washers/nuts do I actually need to replace? Manual says universal joint shaft self locking nuts, tie rod ends nuts, steering rack mounting bolts (surely not?), and washers for banjo bolts where fluid lines connect to the gear. Thanks. Edit - for a torque wrench I am looking at this, just waiting for a reply on drive size. Everything else on there is thrice that price. According to this thread jonnesway is an ok brand..
  9. Sweet will try them tomorrow, hopefully they are open. They were closed.
  10. Yea but I'd rather get everything at once at one place. Need p/s fluid aswell.
  11. So I need some E30 bits, washers, nuts, bolts etc after doing my steering rack.. For example: Self locking hex nut for tie rod ends, part number 07129922436 (got part # from realoem.com, is that the right thing to do?). Can I expect to walk in to a place and they will have said nut or do I have to wait for it to be shipped from overseas? Where do I go to for these in Wellington? Thanks. tastic
  12. Hey Paul good luck. I saw this or one identical the other day in town its super clean

  14. Had another crack today but it's not going up, I noticed that inside where the steering shaft goes into the column there is a ring (about 3mm up) of gnarls in the teeth. Is this normal? The "gnarls" do not look regular. The bit I am talking about is circled below - I shouldn't need to use a hammer should I?
  15. What does it cost to transport a dead car across country? Anyone done it before?
  16. Good this will quiet down some of the faggots racing round kent / cambridge tce at 2am and I shall sleep better
  17. Actually telstraclear was out in central wellington and close suburbs that night... bad luck.
  18. Ditto for me in Wellington btw!
  19. So the old rack is out. With the replcaement I have the steering shaft lined up to the steering column and it goes in a couple of mm but i cant get it all the way up. It doesn't slide up. I have the column bit separated with a screwdriver in there is there anyway to get it split apart wider? Bentley manual just says "installation is the reverse of removal" ... Hints wanted. Cheers
