  1. Hi all, my olds are looking to buy a new car soon. Usual story, must be reliable, economical etc. around 8K to spend, maybe a bit more. Basically just something to do the shopping in etc. Probably a 2L of some kind. They are thinking about E36 as dad is quite impressed with how reliable my car has been. But, i have seen alot on poor build quality of the early ones and the poor fuel economy of the 320i, whats the economy of the 325 like?

Anybody got any other cars that would be suitable, what would the pic of the jappas be?

Just trying to get an idea of whats out there.

  2. Might get flamed here but i actually prefer the new yoko C-drives over the 901's. The 901 is still very good but the yokos just seem stickier and nicer to drive on. I have Cdrive on the front and 901 on the back, i recently had the 901 on the front and turn in just isn't as good compared to the Cdrives. Another tire i have used is toyo TPT, sure its not the same league as the above tyres but is still a very good combination of cost, grip and wear. Can't give an idea on any prices sorry as i get mine cheaper.

  3. That short shifter is one of the easiest things you could do. (just hope you don't have the sheet metal shifter, talk to carl if you do) Once you got the car jacked up its a 15 min job. Theres a few sites around that tell you how to do it. Just search for them. What lever did you buy? Z3?

  4. I don't reckon theres as much differnce between FL 2 or 4 dr, both can look really good. The 2 doors don't look that different to the 4 dr and the 4 dr is way more practical. Its suprising how many people go to hop in the back door of my car before realising there aren't any.

  5. I think you'll find that most people are into looks as well, although not at the cost of performance. I hope you weren't too offened by what i said about the BOV. As for my car it also a work in progress i'm on a really tight budget at the momentso nothings been done for ages.

Now as for the electric supercharger:

A test was done using a leaf blower on a 4 cyl 2L car. When turned on the blower provided an extra 5% over most of the rev range. However that was with a 1.2kW motor, that means on a 12V system the current flow would be over 87 amps. Obviously it was a pretty crude fan/motor design but gives you an idea of how useless an electric supercharger would be.

  6. Its a well published that E30's have quite poor (or fun, if thats how you want to look at it) handling in the wet.

As for difference between turbo and superchargers, turbos generally make more peak power but a supercharger should have way more bottom end, no turbo lag either. Obviously way more to it than that but that is the main differnce. Might be an idea to try and find a few good books if your really interested in that sort of thing.

  7. As for a 325 im just not after the extra power but ever since i have heard the blow off sound ive always wanted one!

Getting a turbo just for a BOV is rice.

Glenns intercooler is there for performance. Not looks or sound.

  8. i can get key gen for lots of different programs, just ask.

    Uni hub rules :mosh:

movies/games download in 15min, all free!

edit- whats you email bravo, i send it thru.

  9. Its far easier to take the entire strut out, its only 2 more nuts, they just might take a few hits with a hammer to lossen them. Also, will only need spring clamps to remove old springs, the new one will be captive when the top nut is done up. And use a rattle gun on the top nut.

Also, SAS can supply 90mm springs.
