  1. Depends on what springs you go for, heaps of different heights, from little as a 20mm drop to 80mm if thats what you want. Jamex are cheaper than kings and are supposed to be stiffer as well, Don't know where you can buy them Chch though sorry.

  2. m10 turbo would be badass

f**k that would be a cool project...so much engine bay room

I know. course M20 would be cheaper and more reliable but turbo M10 would be such a rad holiday project. A few guys have done it, most are doing 0-100 in low 6's. Easy 170hp to be had. I want to do one using megasquirt, it would work well with jetronic as megasquirt only does fuel as well. Biggest problem is retarding the timing under boost, i'd have to use some sort of MSD BTM unit and they aren't cheap.

  3. Like I said in the other thread, unless someone is giving you these bits don't waste your time with the 4cyl 1.8 The only thing you can do thats worth it is to stick a turbo on it. Even that will probabaly cost twice as much as a 2.5, and it would be way more reliable.

  4. Springs are around $300-400 depending what you buy. heaps of people are using jamex or king but I have whiteline. Would you fit them yourself? Pretty easy job, just don't forget to get a wheel alignment afterwards.

  5. Yours is a completely different engine though. Sure, the stock 318 exhaust is pretty crappy, its even been crushed so it will pass under the subframe. I have done the stuff he wants to do and I don't think it will be worth spending the money. If you do anything I'd do the exhaust first, even if just for the sound.

  6. Depends, have you done similar stuff before? I do my own painting, I just go ahead and do it and see how it turns out. Course its nowhere near as good as a pro would do it but its fine for me. Just depends on how much your willing to spend and how good you want it to look.

You do need the right equipment which is pretty expensive. If you are going to do it yourself you will need a large air compressor, pressure varies too much with the smaller ones and they cant keep up. Don't waste your time with shitty guns either. Again, you get what you pay for.

I'd talk to Homy and ask him about primer, sandpaper etc,

  7. Night time driving staring out the back window watching the sparks must be cool, Tim's was...

Even in daylight I could see sparks following him along that road that runs parallel to SH2, (the one by the bottom of haywards) That just had some mild hills in it and he had his muffler on the ground, and your car looks even lower than his. How is it for scraping, speedbumps etc? Looks like your missing that little plastic piece off you front skirt, would look way better if you found a replacement.

  8. Dnz- Actually is quite good money.

When I left my shop I was on $10 an hour + $2 per delivery + tips. Could easily make $11/$12 an hour after tax and petrol had been paid for. Work also paid for my insurance (around $350 a year) oh, and pizza when you finished for the night.

  9. Dude, i did the pizza thing for a while and I used my car. Sort of good and bad at the same time. Made the job so much more fun but put lots of miles on and used way more gas than something like a barina would have.

If I was you, go and get a small, shitty shopping trolley that runs on the smell of an oily rag and just rape it. You'll make more money cos you'll spend soooo much less on gas and it means when you buy a car you really like you wont have to take your job into consideration. Even after you take the extra insurance and rego into account I'm sure you'll come out better off than using some luxo barge. even stuff like tires and parts are way cheaper on a shitta.

Who you driving for BTW? Hope not dominos or pizza hut, waste of time IMO. Go drive for Hell, they pay hourly rate and per delivery.

  10. Yeah I'd agree with that...

You did get a good deal on that mtec 4dr. $6K for throwing starts, mtec, 2.5L, hell yes. Then lucky enough to get LSD, 5spd, headers, mtec1 kit + all the other bits for 5 hundy

Why did they sell it back to you so cheap? I thought normal 325's went for double that at turners.

  11. right, costs of my car while I've owned it:

paid $2'800 well over two years ago. (87' 5spd 318i with 200K on the clock- pretty good cond.

Repairs: 2 front shocks $150, clutch master cylinder $75, drivers seat belt $20? Sunroof panel $30, new radiator cap $20,

Maintenance: 4 tires (2 toyos then 2 yokos) $400, have replaced all brake pads and front rotors $300, plus usual stuff like oil, filters, coolant, gaskets, etc

Mods: Stereo- 6.5" fusion comps, 6.5 fusion co-axl , pioneer heady, 2x kenwood 12" subs, D-class alpine amp for subs, kenwood amp for speakers, all installed and carpeted etc, $1200

    Tints $40

    Springs $300

    Boge rear sports shocks $150

    Rear sway bar $50

    Leather seats $0

    Exhaust $0 (+0.5 hp)

    Alarm $400

    Paint $40

    Custom Intake $10 + $45 for K & N (another +0.5hp)

    Z3 short shifter $100?

Just under $5g if you don't include repairs and maintentance, closer to 6g if you wanna count that. Mods aside i reckon thats pretty good for the 45K that i've put on it.

Also have some IE bushings to put in along with new subframe, cost around $200

Thats pretty much it, worked at a tire shop/garage for a bit and mates worked at ripco etc so got some pretty good prices on lots of stuff. Also have done all the work myself so saved a bit of cash there.
