Stage 1: Orginal Wheel In Silver With NO character other than being a factory wheel.
-
Got sick of looking at my standard rims sit in the garage collecting dust so decided to do something small and different with them to see what they look like. Will put photos up on this thread as I do each stage so people and like and dislike what i do to them Objective is to prep them, paint them gloss black, grind back the bead to alloy again, and add a motorsport badge stripe of light blue pin stripe around the inner bead face. (Hard to explain exactly where im going to put it but photos will soon tell. Have added a pic of the motorsport badge also so you can see the light blue im going to try and match.

Have decided to put the motorsport rim project as a seperate thread but thought i might throw this on here. Gotta love what uneven surfaces do to independent rear-ends =P

Its a totally different car yet still feels identical to driving a factory manual. So tight and responsive. Highly recommend Ray @ HELL BM for that one. M Shifta came from Euro Italia over in the north shore there, picked it up on the way back from Rays. Also a very good place for quality european parts. The shift did however come with a hole in my pocket and a burning wallet lol wasnt cheap but was more than worth it

I wouldnt say that man. Mine looked the same back in the day so in theory its just as good

A few updates on the car. Will also run a bit of a photo blog of one of my little ideas to do something a bit different with standard motorsport rims. So ill keep the progress updated on this thread

Awesome, I will pop in either this arvo or tomorrow morning Glenn. Much appreciated.

hey guys, i noticed a while ago the 328 at times gets the unstable idle going on when you slow down for lights or intersection etc. Not all the time, just every now and then itll be sitting there and will bounce between 400-600rpm a fair few times before finally resting at a steady 500 odd rpm for idle. Mayb it is trying to impress the public with fake lumpy cams, i duno. No big deal but someone might know the reason. I was guessing a possible air vacum type leak mayb. let me know if theres any ideas. cheers

couldnt agree more. good bas**rd ol ray

When you bleed it, I find it easier to bleed by holding the piston of the slave cylinder down inside the cylinder. Its quicker and easier but takes 3 people to do it. One to hold the cylinder depressed, one to pump the clutch pedal and one to release the bleed nipple. Easy when you have staff. floor jack handle/pole and electric seat work a treat if there is no one home to help too (kiwi ingenuity?) lol

no worries man. theres no doubt more little bits and pieces but that just popped into mind when i sore your post. post up some pics when you make the purchase

was passing through ol huntly last night and pulled into the shell for a nosh and couldnt believe my eyes... wondering if anyone else has seen or knows of the car? it looked to be a early 90's mayb even 89 5 series probably a 520 and was a faded yet bright yellow colour (definate aftermarket paint), and appeared to have some sort of vr4 legnum wagon.. haha body kit shorted and modded to fit it and like a V7 STI wrx boot spoiler on it and then 17" front wheel drive offset old ch ch ch chome wheels on it. very clean car tho so definatly as looked after and not a hack. but he had the decency to put a M badge on the boot... Comments anyone?

my 2 cents... 325 motors are a nicer running motor in general and in my point of view. the 2.8's seem to develop the odd vanos rattle or just general rattles and noises even at lower ks (theyre not fkd, just sound like theyre on the piss) where as the 2.5's just seem to purr. The jap autos are shithouse but the reason we find out theyre sh*t house is because of the population and traffic issues in japan, there is more starting and stopping through 1st and 2nd and at times 3rd than there is actual driving.. so it wears the box out pretty quickly. You can... get them adjusted believe it or not to smoothen the rough 1st to 2nd gear change, but it WILL come back and eventually need a rebuild or replacement. If your looking at 97-98 model E36's, a few of them you will notice the led's in the milage reading are all over the show. it doesnt mean its been tampered with, its just a common fault that can be fixed by re-soldering the points on the back of the board. Automatic-up on the windows play up and go back down - u just hold the UP button hard down and it goes up. Once you pull the dash apart including the glove box, you will NEVER get the glove box to line up flush again when its shut. water pumps tend to go on some models ( not sure why or when or how but just heard that one through the bimmersport grape vine) and the E36 shape/car/paint what ever.. is nitorious! for stone chips. again thats a personal opinion but they do seem to collect the chips very quickly. Oh and final thing ill say is i personally reckon the E30 is a farrr nicer and ease to drive. and comfortable to be in the drivers seat of. feels like your right at home. E36's dont seem to be as in control of-feeling when driving. But still my favourite bmw other than of coarse the latest M3 and 335i good luck in the purchase dude

well said. we should prob all forget this thread now before theres BimmersportWIDE War I or II lol I can sense too many different opinions clashing badly any minute.. NO MORE!

not to mention most e36 m3s these days sound like DEE-ZEL John Deere Tractors and once the 328 is improved.... ALSO A DRIVER CAR
-
mmmhmmm i dont believe you lol

Was it you that mentioned a similar thing to this before i started the mods on the car? If i wanted to buy an M3 id go and buy an M3 mate, its not an issue. Likewise if the car owed me the same as an E46 why wouldnt i just get and E46? its because i didnt want an E46 and I didnt want an M3 either. Also in saying that my 328 owes me 3/8th of fk all compared to an M3, is a 1998 and has just ticked over 70000kms with me being the 3 owner nz new. I wanted a NZ new 328i motorsport coupe with black leather, late model E36 and low ks and then of coarse not have a heafty price tag. It took me a while (nearly a year and a half to be precise) but i found one that i was looking for and for a sacrifice of it being automatic, it had everything else i wanted (except a sunroof), so i brought it and simply put a manual in it for dirt cheap. And as for the lsd in the M3 i will be putting one in mine within the next few weeks as i have good contacts that have sourced me a mint one for a unrefusable price. This leaving me still... with a car that I.. want and miles off the price of a M3 or an E46 in that regards. And i dont pay premium dollar for ANYTHING, if somethings not at a good price i simply just dont buy it and keep looking. Its sad how people pay too much for things they buy simply by not biting the bullet and being patient. At the end of the day its only money and lifes short so be smart how you spend it and everyone has their toys along the way and everyones toy desires are different. the world would be boring if we were all the same. Hopefully this clears things up for you...

nick- yeah did it last week, car updates are in the showroom part of the forum. and in regards to the insurance, yeah it crossed my mind the other day too so ill prob just put up with turning it off each time

Anyone seen this? almost worth buying for a bloody paddock car!!! surely its worth a littttle bit more than that dont you think? it even passes the ol car jam check. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=233810112

a few shots i took today of the things ive done. Cant wait to get a intense set up in the boot but it will do for the time being. Ended up doing 5.25" Infinity reference components in the front and amped on the JBL amp, and 4" rockfords in my old 325ci rear speaker compartment boxes which also run off the JBL. Got round to fitting the front lip too which made a bit of an improvement Have also manual'd it since the last update - thanks to RAY @ HELLBM (highly recommend), so am loving that. Next move is headers from Wayne and an M3 rear exhaust, and LSD. Should have that all set up in the next couple of weeks with all going well. Cheers
