    Overheating again :(

cheers for the replyyea no leaks and didn't use any water / coolant gonna drop it off to the mechanics today
  2. On the weekend just been, I went to my mates wedding. About 5 minutes away from the venue I was waiting at a red light for at least 5 minutes. When it finally turned green I went to take off but the car had almost no power and got up to speed very slowly. I look down at the dash to see if any lights had come on ... the temp gauge is right up in the red !!! So I cranked up the heater, pulled over and let it cool down a bit. After about 10 minutes I started to check a few things out and noticed that the fan is moving freely. I'm no mechanic, but I'm pretty sure from my experiences with overheating cars (I seem to be cursed) that the fan should not be moving freely when the car is warm. But that's as far as my knowledge goes. What would cause this to happen? And is it an easy issue to fix? Car details are: E36 323i M52 engine Auto

  5. yea it's shocking in Wellington too, 70kph in the slow lane, 71kph in the fast lane lol Yesterday I went from Wellington to Ohakune and back again (to see mum) Everyone seemed to be driving at 80kph on the motorway for some reason ... and every single passing lane I came to these same people would speed up to 110kph or more making passing very illegal (and more dangerous than it would normally be). Also there seemed to be quite a lot of passing lanes closed, that seems like a bit of a foolish move to do that. Do they want me to overtake on the wrong side of the road? Do they not realise how frustrating it is sitting behind someone doing 80kph on the open road for a long time? Although in saying that, I did come across a couple of courteous drivers that allowed me to pass them on the Para Para's (about 70km's of windy road between Wanganui and Raetihi - very awesome drive ). I always give drivers like that a friendly toot and a wave.

facelift and non-facelift 323i's both have the M52 engine then you have the M52TU that appears in the later 323i's (I think it was 1998?)

    Give Way Rules

The question came up because I was on a side street turning onto the main road. No give way or stop signs, and no-one coming from my right, so I went and this guy comes through off the main road and nearly rammed me, he gives me a long blast of his horn and the finger and drives off. I figured that because I wasn't on a stop sign or give way sign, then normal give way rules apply, but the other guy didn't seem to think so. I guess it is because quite a lot of side roads do have stop signs, so people just presume that the side road gives way all the time. The other gripe I have is people who force their way into non-existent spaces on the motorway, just so they can be in the fast lane, which more often than not is going slower than the slow lane.

    Give Way Rules

There seems to be a bit of confusion as to who gives way in the following situation: Car A is on a main road, they stop in the middle of the road, indicating to turn right into a side street. Car B is stopped at the end of the side street, indicating to turn right onto the main road. Now, according to the road rules, Car B would have right of way as Car A is on the left of Car B. Car A would give way as Car B is on it's right. But in reality, it's always Car B coming from the side street that gives way to Car A coming in from the main road (well that's how everyone in NZ seems to treat it). So which one is correct?

cool I've learnt something new today then not sure how old they are, had the car for 8 months but I haven't put any tyres on it yet I'd say they'd probably be no older than 2.5 years though

    Falken Fk452

I have Direzza's on the car at the moment and have very little traction in the wet (even when they still had at least 5mm tread - that's how much was on it when I got the car) ... in fact it's so bad that I prefer to take the girlfriend's base model Pulsar out when it's raining. So far I'm eyeing up the Falken 452 and the Bridgestone Adrenaline.
  16. this is something I really should look into too I can get over the hump if I go very slowly and I'm the only one in the car the mrs gets pretty annoyed when she has to wait out on the footpath in the rain

  20. Hi, could you tell me what this symbol is ... it looks like 2 lines going horizontal with 3 slightly wavy lines coming from above it ... to me it looks like it's a warning that a pipe it too hot. The owners manual I have doesn't have this symbol in it. It goes out after I start the car, but it's always the last light to go out (usually a second or 2 after everything else). Sorry the photo isn't too clear but my camera just wouldn't focus on it properly. Thank you.

    Rubber Boot

Hi I was checking the coolant levels and oil etc and noticed the rubber boot from the top of the radiator is stuffed (as in the bottom half of it is missing lol). I'm wondering, where can I pick up a new rubber boot? Item number 1 in this diagram .... http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?mo...;fg=23&hl=8 Is this something I could just zip down to Repco and pick up? Or should I go visit a local BMW mechanic and get it off them?
