  1. if you care about driving exprience then the e30 & e36 318is can be fun cars with the sports package. better then most newer cars in its level/price point. not everybody cares about a fast car that can do amazing 0-60 times. theres always a faster car out there. in real life on the motorway, how far are you going to go in a car that can do 0 -60 in 5 seconds, opposed to one that can do it in 8? a few car ahead? You dont need the fastest car and biggest house to be happy, as per the capitalist mentality

Anti western consumerism as justification for owning a 318i...

Potent dope crop up there this year is it? haha

  2. Haha, the only way i'd get back into an E34 would be a 'vert or 2 door version. And since neither were ever made then.............................................................hmmmmm, hang on, just thought of something to keep my hands and mind busy when i'm out in the shed......................................anyone got an old E34 sitting around.

  3. Ironic this thread gets bumped today.

The stars have aligned today, thread gets bumped...........i JUST ran out of tobacco................and libary e-mailed me an hour ago to say the Alan Carr book i reserved last month is ready to be picked up.

So today is MY day to start being a non smoker.

Kinda been thinking about it for the last couple of months but the will power has been super lacking. But finally decided there are a few things i wouldn't mind buying (cars haha) and thought 'ok, so stop smoking and use the money from that'

Although i can buy those things now with some funds i have why not kill 2 birds..........stop smoking and buy cool sh1t.

The only hurdle i see will be that i work at home by myself and always have a smoke on the go when sanding / prepping stuff.

BE GONE YOU FILTHY HABIT, 30 years is long enough.

what's on your wish list? Bout time you jumped back into an e34 innit?!

  4. Fallacy, mate.

“E10 fuels can safely be used in all BMW passenger cars from any model year. Irrespective of the ethanol content, however, the minimum octane rating as specified in the user manual must be observed as before, since some older BMW models require Super Plus RON 98 to reduce knock,” says the German auto maker. “All oil-change intervals as prescribed by us remain unchanged, irrespective of the use of E10 fuel.”

  5. Anyone with experience or observations Akl -> Tauranga/Mount? I drove down on Sunday (via SH2 and Matamata)? The only cop I saw was at Mt Wellington. What did I miss? Lol.

Yep that's the road to take to avoid most of the police. The problem I face is there are at least 3-4 speed camera vans whichever way you go, and they're generally placed on passing lanes and speed traps. Taking the Tahuna turn off just before huntly is another way to go - adds about 30km I think... but there's some fun roads and its generally quiet (also never seen a cop on it).

  6. Considering it was a flagship model and a hell of a car to drive I'm suprised the E38 doesn't rate a mention in the list.

A 740i is a slower and worse handling version of a 540i.... also there's never been an ///M 7 series - so the limo is always going to struggle getting on a list of the greatest //M cars :-). Don't get me wrong 7 series are good cars but a 7 making this list would be like a 2002 making the list of BMW's best cruisers....

:) Ditto^^^^^^^^ Theres lots of nice M variants out there, true, but the E39, & to a slightly lesser extent, the E34, to me they were & are proper real world cars, like Paul has said. To me, the E39 is just the duck's nuts really - the E30 & E36 M models, whilst special, are a bit more of a w*nk thing more suited to a race track, rather than something ya can & would use everyday....... ;):)

Too true. The "real world factor" if you adjust for age was at its peak with the e28 IMO. I love my e34 but the e34 M5 I think was a bit ordinary. Well not ordinary... but not thaaaaat much more spectacular than the 540i. The same cannot be said for the e28 or e39 m5s and their next quickest flagships (between 34-54% more power!)

    Love this video:

  7. Cheers guys. Gave the pads a good chamfer which has helped.

There is the occasional squeak when there is no temperature in the rotors but its much improved. Will get around to swapping the rear disks out at some point.

First thing I did when I got the car was change the brake fluid. Made every bit of difference people say it does!

  8. I have Cleaned the ICV, replaced the sieve of an intake boot; replaced icv to manifold hose, new thermostat, new plugs and a brand new Bosch o2 sensor.

I'm Finally getting decent economy... 8.9l/100km open road which I am very happy about. $40 each way from Auckland to Tauranga.

The cheap fix I was hoping for didn't come to fruition (rarely does with euros right?). But it's good to have the car running right and the fixes will probably pay for themselves in fuel savings in 20-30k km time haha.

Next on the list is a suspension overhaul.... Fingers are crossed the jatco doesn't lunch itself in the meantime

  9. Its not silly powerful and its power is delivered in a nice flexible turbo way meaning it will be easier and more flexible to drive on the road, its 20% more efficient than the last one meaning it will have a longer range and save money, it has a nice 6-Speed gearbox , nice brakes and tyres and a LSD, I can imagine it would be a very nice car on the road and a lot more practical and tactile than a lot of other stuff available.

I am betting this is the best M3 to drive on the road yet.

I would daily the f**k out of one and then take it to the track for some drifting on the weekends!

Agreed, will be the best one yet.

It's lighter than the e46/e90 m3, has way more torque (and power) with outstanding gearboxes and drivetrains.... suspension has also come a long way in 10-15 years.

It may not be the go kart e30 m3 owners would like it to be, but at the end of the day the market has moved on. If you want a car that drives like an e30, buy an e30.

And the best part about the new m3? It will absolutely destroy e9x m3 prices, making that model (arguably) the best value car on the market. Everyone (except current e90 owners) wins.
