  1. Yes. When I get back to Auckland, I hope he'll take me for a spin in it. Looking forward to seeing it evolve. I'll have to get him down to the drags and see what it'll do too.
  2. Nothing wrong with an old convertible, if it's not your only car. Or you live in Brisbane. We had one and it was loads of fun, it was a VW Beetle conv (original one). I'm looking for another convertible option in the future, they just aren't serious drivers cars. Unless you pay megabucks for a great one.
  3. It is now one of 2 E30 325's in his garage. It is in quite good condition and will be perfect for the intermarque sprints. You'll see it soon, I'm sure Gus. It goes well too!
  4. Bloody hell. Those are all expensive. $800p.a. for the 540is and a $250 excess. With the AA.
  5. No. It's gone. I helped to collect it yesterday. Keep an eye out for it.
  6. I'm pretty sure it's now been sold.
  7. Audi's RS Series of cars are the worlds best. The RS2 if you can get your hands on one is the maddest (for it's time too). It was tweaked by Porsche properly. RS6 is on my shopping list. 200kph in 4th. I'd expect better. My car will do that. 200kph in a new Alfa 156GTA isn't much fun either. No such thing as a front wheel drive sports car!
  8. BBC world is always playing Top Gear in the dark hours. We only get an edited version which has the interviews and the cool wall etc removed. So I've given up watchin and wait until the full versions come on Prime. Unless the sister in law gets me the taped series from England beforehand.

    1991 E34 M5

You'd hate the E55 Jock. It's a tank with bad suspension and an agricultural traction control. With it off however, it's a sideways beast. Won't tell you where I've had a mates one sideways for ages. But it was fun and made more smoke than a Bond car. Still hate the shape of the new 5 Series. I'm hanging out for the M6. Good luck with it.

  11. It's still a work in progress. I would think he may know where you may get one suitable for you. Have you looked on the BMW GB car club site? They have a good range of vehicles if you don't need to register it.
  12. Done! Wellington's street race was great to watch. The track was terrible to drive though. Only reason I go there. Would be quite happy if they got back as it was a great week away. Better pit facilities than Puke has too (underground carparks and parking buildings) Puke is a sh*t track. The Auckland street race was proposed in a stupid place. It was always going to fail. Hoonapuna in Christchurch would also be good.

  14. This one is Paul Cook's. As you can see, it's a runner. Photo stolen from the BMW club website, it's one of Grant's. I'd track Paul down and see what he knows.

    850i on trademe

There may well be nothing wrong with it. But a higher number of components means a lower M.T.B.F (Mean time between failures), it has no body panels which are common to any other BMW. It has a super trick rear suspension, maybe EDC too and it has no more power than the 840Ci. I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole. Yes they are a good looking car, buy my 540 if you want something fast and luxurious. You won't pull chicks in it either Tim!
  17. Happy Birthday Grant. You're making me feel old now. Have a good day.

    Ferrari ???

A standard M5 motor is 300kW. This one has a mild tweak to 337kW. Grant. No, I don't have the info in softcopy. I gave it back to the guys on Friday. It will be a brilliant car. Yes, we might buy one. Here is another car the guys have built. www.962c.com See, I do like Porsche.

You can afford to buy it. You can't afford to fix it!
  20. Richard at DCH motorsport may be interested. 348 3189. Are you looking just to have the car serviced or are you looking to play with it? Graeme Clyde (as mentioned) is good too.
  21. I've driven both blown and turboed cars. I still like Superchargers for the smooth delivery of the extra neddies. Ask anyone who has been in a Grp A Sierra what turbo lag and then BOOOOOST is all about. Obviously these are extreme cars. A mild state of tune in a Turbo is a cheaper way to go in general. As 318is has said. I like the bigger motors, so have driven blown cars more. Tyre tearing torque. Get a VTEC if you want to ring the dinger out of your motor. or a new M5. Still a Westie at heart!
  22. Superchargers are linear devices, Turbochargers are more exponential in delivery. If you want top end a turbocharger is better. Blowers are better for driveability. Blowers also put a load on the motor, turbos don't (I believe). I like Superchargers personally.

    Ferrari ???

Yes, you are right Grant. I knew as I typed it that McLaren seemed wrong. I just couldn't remember the correct name. If you come to the BBQ tonight. I have all the latest info on it. Nice car.

    Ferrari ???

Ferrari for an overall Marque. Porsche is still only a glorified Volkswagen. However, in the recent past Porsche have started making some great cars. GT3 and Carrera are some of them. However, they and Ferrari are starting to sanitise their cars to make them nice to drive. Any idiot can get into one now and not smash it, due to all the Nanny features. That's not really a sports car. The Pagani Roadster is my current favourite. On the case of an NZ supercar, the McLaren is coming along nicely. Motor and gearbox are together, body is nearly finished. You'll be happy to know it is being powered by a BMW M5 (V8) that has been tweaked. Keep an eye out for an Alfa Romeo 8C. I'm trying to get one in the country now. Ferrari: 206SP (the car that beat the GT40 at Le Mans) The only prototype I'll list, otherwise I get a response on Porsches excellent race cars. 246 Dino 308GTB/GTS 355 F1 360 Spider F40 550/575GT Enzo That beats a list of 911's, and the Carrera anyday. 944 is a great car too. Ciao

    Ferrari ???

OK Ollie, you are completely wrong. If you get to Maranello, I'll get you into the factory. These cars are hand built to a far higher standard than the Lambo's have ever been. The new Lambos you refer to are brilliant build quality, as they are built to the German standards. You also might like to learn how Murcielago and Gallardo are spelt too, if it's that great. A Countach was not even the same length on the RHS of the car compared to the LHS. And they were all different. The Murcielago, it is a massive tank, like the Testarossa and only nice if you drive it on autobahns and never have to try to back at all. Have you checked the resale value of a Ferrari vs. a Lamborghini? They don't compare. The Italians build and design cars with style, they are generally not good value for money if you look at them objectively. I don't get the absolute pleasure driving the 540, that you get from any of our Italian cars. Even though the BMW is far more competent, it doesn't get the pulse going like the others. Ciao
