A total of 786 E30 M3's were built from 1988 to 1991. The interior looks genuine. 1989 had 180 built until June. The next lot were built in Feb 1990. 19 were built for the UK in 1989. Chassis numbers for the first batches are: 2001552 2385001-2385042 EB85001-EB85093 2001613 3559001-3559088 EB86000-EB86085. It's just up the road from me. I might go and look at it today.

On the subject of cold air. Obviously more air & fuel into your car is a good thing. Cold air: every 10 degrees C colder you can have the charge of air/fuel going into the motor you will get a 1% increase in horsepower. This is why drag cars run faster times in the evening when the track has more grip (due to absorbing the sun all day and being warmer) and the air is colder.

Nice beast! Is is Manual?

Not mine. I am pretty sure that the guy who owns it was the only person driving it this morning. I dropped the boss off to work in the 540 today.

another shot

Any suggestions on where I can get a front spoiler for this E36? And what it might cost. Ideally Hell Red. Colour not important though. Thanks

Here is a shot of my extinguisher fitted to the drivers seat of the 540

Finally remembered to take the photo of the other side of the engine bay as req.

Yes, If you take a picture it would be helpful. 4 into 2 into 1 is the generally accepted best practice for a 4 cylinder. The next thing is that the rest of the exhaust breaths. There is always a bottle neck in every system. I'll try to get a pic of one side of the V8. The M60 has a very nice set of BMW standard headers.

I'm not going to comment on the final sound. It depends on everything else in the system. You will get bugger all of a performance increase and get a bit more noise, IMO. HP or kW are a function of Torque x Revs. So anywhere you get an increase in torque, you will see an increase in HP/kW. Powerchips website will give you a guide to what an off the shelf chip will add. 10% in general. So a thousand dollars there would be better spent than on a new muffler initially (for performance). A good air-filter $100-200 will also give a small lift. Your motor is an air pump. More air, means you can add more fuel. ergo More HP/kW. Tuned length headers are the way to go for ultimate tuning of your exhaust. Your car probably has 2 lengths of primary in the headers. This spreads the average torque band and makes the car more 'driveable'. Doing this you will loose torque elsewhere though and have a bigger lump somewhere. You could run a full dual system back to a muffler and replicate what the 540 has in effect. Torque is good for moving. Horsepower only really effects your top-end speed.

Yes, correct. David's car was 93kW off memory and mine was about 7kW lower than the 164kW I got from Torque Performance. However Dynos are not that accurate anyway unless you use one of International Dynomometers ones. Therefore, you need to find someone who will look after you and keep getting your car dyno'd at the same place so the records have some correlation.

I'm with Andrew. I'd be looking at Valves and tappets. Does it only smoke after the motor has not been running for a while? If so, probably the above cause.

Oh yes Grant, I forgot to tell you about that bit. If your tickets include a pit walk. It is down pit straight. Not pit lane. At least, that's the way it has been each year I've been there. The photos I got were in pit lane close enough to touch stuff. So take a good lens with you if you want good shots. You can wander under the tunnel next to the Schumacher stand through to the V8 (taxi racing) and supporting class pits. The Shannon's classic car display is always primo. The Melbourne car show is on at the same time (at Jeff's shed, opposite the casino). I would recommend a coffee at Il Cavalli in St Kilda. It is also an exotic car and Ducati dealership. Better than going to a strip show. Good prices too on that package. Seating alone is about $400. Take loads of sunscreen! Watch for the F111 'dump & burn'! Bugger all happens on Sunday, I generally just go for the GP itself. Friday and Saturday as the best days. Remind me next time you see me and I'll give you the run-down on what else you might like to do. Lived there for a while.

Grant, it appears everyone agrees. And I do too. Front tyres to steer and brake are ultimately more important. Although the weight will transfer to the front in the occassions you are talking about and provide more grip to the fronts than the backs (standard physics) The comment would probably be driven by the fact that most car designers are design an understeer characteristic into their cars. It is inherently more safe to do this. Most people panic in a slide and button off. If your car is understeering, it generally regains composure and you get to breath again. In oversteer, as I'm sure most of you have found out. This same behaviour will cause the car to change directions immediately, causing more panic and a spin. Keep them on the front. Practice your drifting.

Don't remind me about the S14 thanks. I was going to have a look at a 320iS (Italian) 1990 in Diamond Schwarz in Oxford UK in 3 weeks. Just been told this morning that it was sold. :banghead: Oh, well. I guess I'll find something fun to drive next.

It is Awesome. My recomendation is to get seats in the Schumacher stand. Turns 13 & 14 before you go onto the front straight. This is the slowest part of the circuit and opposite pit lane. So you get to see all the smashed cars trucked past you. It is the last corner of the track to close. So you won't be able to run down the straight and get a spot in front of the podium afterwards though. Who cares. Don't sit on the main straight. You will see nothing apart from the start and the finish as the cars pass so close to the wall, you will see a tenth of them. Turns 1 & 2 are OK, but boring unless someone comes apart. You can run down the straight from here and get a good position for the podium. Or you can get a Paddock Pass and you'll get a view like these shots. Back then, they were about $3000 AUD for the 4 days. I didn't pay. We backed up all the power supplies for the GP and got a free table instead of payment. COOL!! Nothing better than a 3 litre doing 17000+ rpm. Testing at Silverstone is FREE and fun too.

Ohh. And the Hotwheels girls.

Cover the wing, so you can't get their Aero settings

And the bits that hold the car off the ground.

Jaguar call this the Growler! As opposed to the Leaper, which goes on the road cars.
