M42 Motor and Trans for sale Low(ish) kms CHEAP
Forrest replied to computertrader's topic in For Sale
^ It is so hard to find conversion info, cause the US didn't get the m40, so the majority of the swaps are e30 m42 to e36 m42 motors or a completely unrelated motor to e36 m42 -
LOL I would be keen for the green grill if I can get some green tinted covers for my headlights on the the track

Yeah m30 is a pretty ancient motor. I plan on skipping any other 'e30' motor and going to a 'early' e36 motor. Ideally want to do non vanos m50 with a turbo..essentially the same motor as boostjunky's...ay Luke

^ I would be dreaming (nearly). Car is all good to go bar motor work. But still havn't got harnesses (don't need them, but really want to sort them b4 I drive it in anger), logbook, licence, overalls, helmet etc etc Wana test it at my Dad's track day before getting into the seriousness of the Intermarques. Guess will just see how things pan out.

Corona, Haagen or Hoegaarden (If I am pissing money). Tis a shame, but as Grant said, I always go quality over quantity.

Well nearly got the driveshaft all back together last night. Have decided to postpone an engine transplant at this stage, got important running races coming up so training is going through the roof atm so don't have time or cash for that matter. Am just going to revitalise the m40 for minimal cost, so do the replacement cam, a few gaskets, adjust the tappets, new cambelt and see where we end up. Maybe even a cheeky chip if the exchange rate plays the game. Still on track for a early June track debut. Pictures to come.

^ Thanks, and me too. Might get a radar for the e30 now...too many flavours of cop cars out there these days.
-
HB Johno, will finally be in touch soon about those harnesses

If they should get any girl, Viki Butler Whatsherface that used to be on the 'old' top gear, atleast she knows how to drive

Have searched about 6 forums trying to find a step by step DIY of this. Have found bits and pieces, but no straight step by step in one place, I am sure somebody has a treasure trove of info somewhere on them, am finding this very frustrating. Didn't help that the US didn't get the m40 Just a link/thread with some pics etc would be helpful if anyone has seen one. Any help is appreciated. Nathan

Pretty sure he used to have a Rolls. Dunno about the BMW though
-
^ Okay I will keep that in mind, cheers. Still not 100% on whether I will do a m42 swap, seems to be the easiest plug in and play option and is enough of a refined set up for me after a m40 1.6. Been reading up on m42club.com and there are many different combos, obviously being a student bang for bucks is high on priority list. Also with the car having done about 200km in the last 8 months I am kinda keen to get it out having some fun on the track asap, so ease of conversion is a biggie too.

^^ Will be my current gearbox, the 4cyl g240. Anyone who has advice on this feel free to PM me or post in my project thread, don't want to hijack the quick questions thread. Thanks again Glenn
-
^ Thanks. Am saying this because if I do a m42 swap, with my current diff (small case 4.27) it will rev at 3500 at 100kph in 5th gear, which is quite high, if I were to get a 4.10 or a 3.91 (small case) I could swap the front plates over so I don't have to repress out and in again my urethane diff mount bush. Thanks for your help Glenn
-
^ Thanks Glenn All good. Another quick one, will any small case diff front plate (where the diff mount is) fit any other small case diff? i.e front plate bolt holes are in the same place etc (for a E30) Check again I just edited my post... I missread your question

m42 exhaust manifold = m40 exhaust manifold????
-
+1 for parking on a hill. It will overflow in the boot if your boot seal is bad and go behind the back seat and under the carpet into the front seat footwells. Not a fun job to dry it out
-
^ Thats true mate, but can get a m42 or a m50 for about the same price, its just I would need another gearbox if I went the m50 route, because mine is the 4 cylinder g240 not the 6 Edit: ^ Ignore my retard post
