Pretty sure to take the whole assembly you need to take the bumper off has screws at the inside of the bumper. Obviously if its just the orange plastic its just the two screws. Sorry Max
-
^ Yeah there are a couple on there atm, but are to nice to chop up. Will keep my eyes peeled.

Raah having so many doubts atm about what to do.. Even toying with the idea of buying a bare shell of something with a bigger motor and box in it and swapping all my goodies over Anyone got a FL coupe shell they wana sell? No rust. Pref with a manual box and 2L/2.5
-
So I assume then the m20 version of the 240 is the one that fits on a m50? Um I can use the same box (240) on a m42 and I assume its the same deal for a m44 also
-
^ Thanks also, Stuck is the man, I do troll on e30tech also. I guess a 240 + S52 is just asking for trouble with double(ish) the power of a standard m50. Argh I don't know what to do so many choices and combos. I just want more grunt for minimal cashflow and hassle. Something I can bolt in. Can get a m44 (later generation m42) with 150hp for a 1k + everything needed to bolt in and use my original gearbox.

^ Thanks mate, really appreciate your help

^ That while being cool, also requires me to buy a new gear box I think..am noobzors at gearboxes

All progress has stalled for the moment. Got a new battery yesterday, am awaiting on the driveshaft bush and mount then can put that all together. May be scraping the idea of doing any work whatsoever on the m40 and looking to buy a m42/m44 or m50. So plans are up in the air atm, just have to see what the bank of Nathan and the bank of Dad say......

Can't decide what motor to put in my car, want something that can bolt directly up to my G240 box, as I have just discovered gearboxes aren't cheap. If anyone has anything, needs to be non vanos for the m50, with loom, ecu, AFM, starter motor essentially all the tricky stuff I would need to get it running into my e30. Any motors anyone has that may fit the bill, please post up with a price or PM me, am just testing the waters for the moment. Am willing to drive to Auckland if the price for the above is worth my while Thanks, Nathan

320guy from here used/is using a 240 on his m50 conversion, just found his project thread on e30 tech, looks like I will atleast have someone to ask if this goes ahead Wow so I just re-read that, so I assume only the m20 g240 would fit on the m50 then, back to the drawing board

I am sure I read this somewhere, has anyone heard of making it happen? My bad if it isn't possible. How much would a standard gearbox go for these days to bolt up to a m50. Exploring a potential different option in regards to the current worn out sewing machine situation Edit: A quick google found this: Yea, BMW trannys are very strong. My dad ran a 375hp Blown M50 behind the same tranny that comes in a 318, the Getrag 240. And, Getrag 260's (what you have) are MUCH stronger. It's not your engine that destroyed your tranny Lukas, it's your driving. (off dtmpower.com) Am I barking up the wrong tree lol?

Nice work on the subframe, have just done mine and ended up jumping on the one side that wouldn't come off the thread of the bolt My center prop shaft bearing, boot and mount was worse than yours, 95% off the rubber boot was torn, now I know why I had terrible clunks. This is gona be the ultimate win project.

http://www.noren.com/bmw/e30reset.htm to make a connector, use some wire with bullet connectors at either end and a fuse soldered in the middle

Cheers Cam, I have a Haynes manual. I just have a new camshaft and cambelt. What are followers? Excuse my noobness...and would I need a new tensioner?

Inappropriate or Irrelevant Content on Bimmersport
Forrest replied to bravo's topic in General Discussion
I agree with all of this, I have had a couple threads turn to crap after asking for legit advice and not getting anywhere, also made a few threads of late asking for advice and not getting any, seems like the focus is now more towards the materialistic threads and not the important ones. Won't name names but it's easy enough to go elsewhere and find out things about the CARS which is the reason I joined bimmersport originally because I knew nothing. Just my 2c -
Is anyone able to help me out?

Can anyone help me out here with a link to a DIY m40 camshaft swap, car isn't worth enough to get someone else to do it and I would really like to learn more about assembly/dissasembly of motors. Havn't touched this one bar new plugs, oil changes and rocker cover painting. Even a few step by step pointers would be appreciated if anyone has time to jot some up. Have a new camshaft and cambelt, what else do I need parts wise to complete the job? Any help is appreciated. Wana have a go at tackling this maybe this weekend
