I have had both my 530i's auto boxes flushed and new fluid, some people are too scared to touch them. I haven't had any issues though (touch wood)

Parking brake adjustment is a bit of a pig if you try to do it with the wheel on as the manual suggests. This is the easier way...... Handbrake adjustment

I left the battery disconnected for an hour and drove the car with the new sensor, no difference, so I put the old sensor back in and got the car scanned today again, fault code 104 relating to vanos and exhaust camshaft. The chap said it could be the exhaust camshaft solenoid? Ideas? See older post
-
It could have just had a small air lock/bubble somewhere in the system that has worked it's way out. I know that state of paranoia I have done a full re con of my 530i too, still checking the fluid every week!

I suspect I have a stuffed exhaust camshaft position sensor, I have just replaced it with a known good one, do I now need to disconnect the battery to reset the computer and any fault codes? Or should I just drive it and hopefully notice the difference. Symptoms are car is sluggish under 3500rpm, have replaced vanos seals and Disa valve, had the car scanned a while ago and the only fault was related to the vanos (which I presumed was due to seals)

Let me know if you see anything you want. Located in Chch. All very cheap, make an offer

Have a read here....Visit My Website I think even the E30 bottlecaps look ok or even some 14 inch basketweaves...TM

Does anyone else have this scanner, sure seems cheaper than paying $50 to get the car scanned.I will hopefully get a chance to get under the bonnet this weekend. Also I forgot to say along with the lack of power the obc is reading 16L per 100kms! So slow and thirsty, not a combination I like.

When you pulled apart the DISA, how fragile is it? I want to pull it off but my wife uses the car daily and I don't want to break anything, if it is easy to get off without damaging anything ie the rubber seal, I might whip it off and have a look and if necessary swap the one of my other 530i. I might do the same with the cam sensors. That way it won't cost anything and hopefully I can eliminate a few things. If that fails I will take it in to get it scanned.

Mine was already gone, so not too sure.I guess you have seen these... Rear plate holder Rear plate holder

Very nice! I reckon the E61 Tourings look so much better than the sedans.
-
Finally took a couple of photos of the new Euro plates (Thanks Andy!)
-
Tested the sedan today: 0-80kph: 6.3secs 0-100kph 8.0secs So that will be why I can feel the difference.
-
Thanks, I was just reading about the DISA valve. Sounds like it would be worth doing anyway for the sake of $115! I'm guessing you just got the kit from the states?

This is the 1st auto I have ever owned from about 25 cars, but it's a clever gearbox and silky smooth, I have definitely grown to enjoy it. Take one for a decent test drive somewhere and see what you think.

Yeah good thought, I haven't reset so possible I guess. Thanks

Hi, My recently purchased 530i Touring is feeling really sluggish low down in the revs. Since buying it I have always thought that it felt a bit slow as I also have a 530i motorsport sedan (that I am trying to sell) Today I went for a good drive in the sedan after having not driven it for a while. The cars are like night and day, the sedan is so much quicker low down in the revs. I know the Touring is a little heavier but it shouldn't be that much different. I have recently done the vanos with new Besian seals, so I know it's not that, I disconnected the MAF sensor which didn't make much difference, so I suspect that's ok, what's next cam sensors? I did a few tests in the Touring today: 0-80kph: 8.2secs with MAF disconnected and 7.5 with it connected 0-100kph 10.7 secs with MAF disconnected and 10.0 with it connected. Factory stats are 0-100kph 7.9 secs Tommorow I'll time the sedan for a comparison. It feels good once the revs get over 3000rpm but just bogs down off the line, no way could you get any wheelspin with the traction control off. Any ideas? I had it scanned a month ago and there were no fault codes. Thanks.

Do you have pics of the 3 different grills on the car?

Getting cheaper by the weeks! No one has even been to see it yet.

Ok, all good then. I was reading on a few other websites that the OEM viscous is much quieter than aftermarket. I guess I will just get used to it.
-
Hi, I have just replaced the water pump and viscous clutch in my car, all is running good again. On startup the viscous fan is really noisy ie. going flat out and shifting some serious amounts of air. After about a minute it quietens down and sounds normal, but will get noisy when accelerating off from a standstill when cold. My question is, does this sound normal and is it just the new viscous coupling? It is a after market one from Millands, brand :Hans Pries Topran (sounds German ) I am tempted to put the old one back in which was working fine.

E46 "reassociating" Keyless Entry - Jap Import
speedyg replied to caleb's topic in Electrical system
Old thread I know, but I just did this after my 2yr old boy was playing with the key in the car and managed to disassociate the key, so the remote locking wouldn't work. I tried a few different procedures but this one worked first time, all the others I read missed out the pushing unlock while light flashing part. Car is Jap import 2000 530i with two rubber button remote. -
Stretch your budget for a E39 touring..... Sold...BMW 530i touring this one even had a roof rack for your boards.

I wouldn't be surprised if the oil leak is coming from above that area somewhere or even above the fan and getting blown around the place by the fan when driving. Maybe rocker cover gasket?
