  1. krisgong won the car at $9400 under a $1 no reserve listing. Days later the same car appeared again, this time with a price tag of $13,999 Both listings from candyscar http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=188308438 http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-191840569.htm Am I missing something or what???
  2. yes it did. Hope someone else might find this useful.
  3. All the steps I found over Internet/forum were quite close but didn't work for me. I thought I'd post up my concise notes on what I describe as "reassociating" the key(s) with the vehicle keyless entry system. My keys are the 2 button style. E46, Jap Import 1, using a key unlock the vehicle, get in and close door. 2, put the key into the ignition and turn to position 2, wait for 5 secs and then back to off. 3. remove key 4. point the key toward red "clown nose" 5. hold unlock rectangle button 6. press lock round button 3 times (while still holding the unlock button) 7. release the unlock button 8. At this point, you'll notice the red led on key flashes 9. press the unlock button 10. car will lock and unlock to indicate successful association 11. repeat 4-9 for 2nd key This is what worked for me. Hope you'll find this useful.
  4. Which grade of petrol do you normally use for E46 2002 Jap Import The owner's manual written in Jap says 95 ron. Wonder if most people use 95 ron or the most economical grade i.e. 91 ron
  5. I'm having normal plate, can I order Euro plate from Licensys? https://www2900.ssldomain.com/licensys-ebus...tureRequest.asp Wonder why is this so cheap compared to plates.co.nz ? What's the catch?
  6. Wanted, rub strip for E46. Preferably in Wellington Part No: 51138208450 Description: MOULDING DOOR FRONT RIGHT
  7. Some mechanical insurance impose a 30 days stand down period (i.e. you start paying the premium from day one but any problem occuring within the 1st 30 days are not covered by the insurance), others require a full inspection before they underwrite the insurance.
  8. that's exactly right, you pays your money, you takes your chances I ended up spending another 15% of the car purchase price to service and replace various parts. I say you need to factor another 20% on top of the purchase price for unforeseen repair work unless you get it thoroughly checked before bidding. Car dealers or private sale seem "safer" in my opinion I won't recommend mobile check either. Chances are you'll see a comment in your report indicating engine assembly bottom area: Cover inhibits complete inspection.
  9. In the morning, (about 7 degrees) I checked the coolant expansion tank and noticed the float was right at the bottom, in fact it wasn't even floating and from the looks of it, there wasn't any coolant in the tank. (Note that car has not been started/moved for more than 24 hours) I started the engine and left it running for 10 minutes, checked the coolant level again and this time, the level went up. This is my 1st E46 BMW, and so I'm not sure if this is normal ? i.e. should the coolant measuring stick be floating all the time?
  10. Thanks Jochen. This is exactly what I did but it just won't go into service mode. after about 10 sec, I could hear the radio turning off and on again, which I assume it went into service mode. However as soon as this happen, all buttons stop responding including < >. I had to turn the radio off and on again to return it back to normal. Wonder if there's someone out there having this particular model of radio?
  11. makes me wonder how accurate is the service interval. 25,000Km does seem a lot to me. Most Japanese cars are on 10,000km interval
  12. After completing Inspection I, my service interval indicator was reset to 25,000km. I would assume the next service is another 25,000 km away? My insurance company, requires car to be serviced every 15,000km. Isn't it a "waste" since on reaching the 15,000km mark I still have a good 10,000km before the next service is officially due... Anyone on AA mechanical insurance having the same issue?
  13. Anyone out there using exactly the same radio set? (see attached) Were you successful in your attempt to change radio frequency to NZ standard? This is what I did... 1. Key in Pos 1 2. Turn on radio 3. Press and hold Traffic button for 10 sec 4. I could hear a short audible pause (almost like radio turning off and on again) 5. At this stage, I suspect the radio is in service mode 6. However when I pressed scroll button, there was no response; in fact all buttons except menu stopped responding. 7. I had to turn off the radio and turn it on again to bring it back to normal. repeated the above with Select and Mode button unsuccessfully. Thanks
  14. some scratches on my bonnet. wanted to repaint my bonnet. Wonder how much would this cost? Any recommendation? Thanks!
  15. do you have the Protective moulding door front right ? (the protective moulding on exterior of driver's door)
  16. I found 1 in the dash on passengers side. 1 in steering wheel. 1 in each front door. 1 in each rear door. 1 in each "A" pillar =8
  17. How many airbags are there in an E46? I always thought there are 6 airbags but found another 2 near the windscreen pillar ???
  18. whenever i click on a topic, I can only see the initial post. All other replies are shown at the bottom of the page with headings only. I've to click on individual post to see the replies. Is there an option somewhere that loads the entire page of a particular topic?
  19. Trial will start in Nov 2008, actual rollout next year
  20. Indeed, car had a split expansion tank like many other E46. Cost $500 for parts, labour, coolant, radiator pressure test.
  21. a week of extreme bad luck car had a weak battery 1 set of key had a worn rubber pad, and I lost my spare key and now possibly a broken expansion tank
  22. thanks for the comprehensive details. 7. I had to turn off the radio and turn it on again to bring it back to normal. believe I’m almost there... will keep trying…
  23. appears to be coming out from the expansion tank itself 2001 E46
  24. My Coolant low telltale sign is on. When I pour coolant into the coolant expansion tank, I could see coolant flowing out as soon as I top up. In fact, it left a pool of coolant on the ground. What could have gone wrong? some hose is broken???
