Rattling sound from steering wheel I’m so frustrated by a rattling sound coming from the steering wheel. Hope someone can suggest what could be the problem. Symptoms 1. Vehicle travelling at low speed over uneven road surface, there’s a rattling sound that appears to be coming from the steering wheel, behind the badge. 2. Sounds like ball bearings 3. Felt like ‘something’ behind the steering wheel requires tightening 4. only happen when vehicle is travelling at low speed, i.e. 20-30 km/hr over uneven surface. Not a problem when speed increases i.e. 50 km/hr Certainly not the control arms or bushes because they’ve just been replaced.

They're probably talking about Brand New or near New BMW.

Are there anyone in this forum who can read Japanese?

found the answer. This is what it says... Please use 95 Octane Unleaded premium and above Gasoline (Unleaded High Octane). Note : Please do not use Fuel addictives, Fuel Tank water removal substances and low grade gasoline. They will cause engine breakdown or damage moving parts. Apparently, Jap Import E46 requires 95 Ron. I would imagine E90 having the same requirement? Few days ago, I saw someone filling up his E90 with 91 Ron. -
Took this out of the user manual. What does it say about fuel? Many Thanks

Does sounds like a plausible explanation but I would ask to see the paper work Is the price good enough to take on the "risk" ? You'll have to convince the next buyer if you ever re-sell the car again. -
The Jap has perfected their approach to quality control. read 'Kaizen'. Repeatedly producing the same car/parts with a high standard of realiability and consistent quality. In my opinion, far superior to German cars. Other than the regular wear/tear components, there really isn't anything that could break. Just do a comparison on all mechanical insurance. All mechanical insurance that I came across impose an excess for Euro cars but little or zero excess for Jap. Not only the parts for Euro cars are more expensive but there are far more chances of an Euro car failing with bits and pieces of minor repair work required. (often within the excess amount, hence no claim from Insurance point of view) Having said these, I still prefer a BMW to Toyota.

for price comparison sake... I recently bought an Air Filter for E46 Supercheap Auto - $26 (with a 20% disc coupon) for FRAM Air Filter Jeff Gray BMW Wellington - $52 for BMW/OEM MAHLE Air Filter
-
Differences for Inspection II are: Engine Compartment section 1. Replace spark plugs 2. Replace air filter element BMW_Inspection_I.pdf BMW_Inspection_II.pdf

A well written guide for those who're planning to DIY Replace Spark Plug for E46
-
I know it's even more ridiculous when you compare BMW Inspection I and Inpsection II. Jeff Gray BMW charges $350 for Inspection I and double that for Inspection II because Inspection II includes changing spark plugs Don't understand why the spark plugs for M54 are so expensive
-
There are spark plugs for the M54 & M52 engine. NGK BKR6EQUP BOSCH FGR7DQP Realised these are difficult to find, both Repco & Supercheap Auto don't stock them. They've to order them in. Repco quoted $39 for each NGK plug (BKR6EQUP) and they don't do Bosch Supercheap quoted $25 for each Bosch plug (FGR7DQP) Found a pack of Bosch F1-6 consisting 6 pieces Bosch FGR7DQI retailing for $139. These are apparently Bosch Platinum Iridium Fusion. I assume these are better than FGR7DQP? http://www.bosch.com.au/content/language1/html/5684.htm More interestingly, buying 6 individual pieces of FGR7DQP (@$25X6) actually cost more than the FGR7DQI retailing at $139. Has anyone used these Platinum Iridium fusion plugs in their E46? Any problem using these Platinum Iridium fusion plugs in 2002 E46?

if you have the reg number, go to post shop, pay $2.20 to find out the owners name. From there, look up the phone directory. Most people simply have no respect for others property
