You were in Germany? Cool You don't wish you were there now though, trust me. Fuel prices are at over Kiwi $2 a litre there at the moment, according to the BP website. The 3rd highest in the world. America gets the cheapest stuff, funny that. No wonder why they wanted a war with one of the biggest fuel suppliers in the world

Yeah I have decided not to buy it. I am going to get my learners in my Dads Toyota Camry wagon, manual. Then when i get my restricted i will buy a car. I will keep an eye out for good E30's still. Thanks for all the input guys, and sorry for wasting your time. I will remember all this stuff, and will try find an E30 manual when the Restricted rolls around. Thanks again, Emma.

Cheers Mike & Andy. Will speak further with the parents, although i don't think they like the idea of getting a car you haven't seen. To be honest neither do I. Have been calculating transport costs. Option 1: $213 Dun- Wellie flight. $149 For car over the Strait + $49 for 1 Adult = $198 $60 petrol. Picton to Dunedin = 698 KM. Economy at approx. 100KM/7l. 698 KM divided by 7 = 48.85 litres. Round up to 50 litres. Say 96 is at $1.15. That equals $55.00, but then round it up to $60 because thats more realistic. Stay with Uncle Michael in Christchurch as the halfway point = Free accomodation. Total = $481. Option 2 $91 airfare Dun to Christchurch $37 Train CHCH to Picton $149 for car over ferry (WGTN to PICTON) Carl said before someone could put the car on the ferry. This is not saying anyone is.. just working out transport cost. $60 petrol. Stay with Uncle in CHCH = Free = $337 total. God, that is ALOT of shagging around. May as well forget it.

True, but think of the possibilities.. Free shell, buy your own running gear etc, and make it into a track monster!I've got a article on an E28 being converted into a beast

Aw gees, that car was once about $70,000 worth. Now your speaking of rolling it off a cliff? Ask Brent, he'll do somethign with it

My parents are with AMI, i may enquire about insurance actually. If not for this car, for one in the future, just so i get a general idea. Oh yeah, more questions. Sorry, its just you guys are such a great help. How much does it cost to fill up a 318 tank? Is it reasonable, i'm just really concious about gas. Also what kinda things could i do myself (and Dad)? I wouldn't be able to count it for a service would I because i would need a service reset tool and possibly E30 w/shop manual. Edit: Sorry, another thing. The clutch. Do these wear down easily? Do they need any extra car in comparison to a Jap car? One more thing, cambelts how are they, in comparison to a Jap car are they darer?

Hey Andy what do you use that 535i Manual for that you offered to Graeme? It seems way to cool to be a garage muncher
-
I think what Carl is trying to say is that he wouldn't use $120k on a Escort. Fair enough to the rally drivers etc it would be a good investment. Think of what you could buy with 120k!! Holey schmackos, just think of that E30 M3 EV0 III on trademe, and then an E39 540 on top of that, or an E39 M5 and cash in the pocket. There is plenty more variations, E36 M3 plus E30 M3, late model E46 M3 etc. The possibilites are almost endless.

Yeah, i'm keen to learn, going to be a Tech when i finish High school. I will be getting my licence soon, so yeah casually looking for cars now. Thanks for all the help, its great. With regards to being expensive, someone offered him $3700 and he said ring me up and we will discuss, but obviously nothing has come from that. Transport could be a bargaining tool i reckon, like when i get more serious (the olds talk lol) i could offer him $3700 or 3.8 S.A imports being 4WD, as in 318iX, two diffs? Another question, will insurance kill me? (3rd party, fire & theft just the basics not under my parents name) What kinda petrol do 318's like?
-
Cheers guysWill discuss with the olds about this first, and then if i am genuinely keen i will pay a fellow Bimmersportian to do a critical check and test drive. Does anyone know how much it would cost to get to Dunedin? I mean theres always the flight up to WGTN at around $140, then across the straight at $190, then petrol at about $70.. = $400 to get here. Sorry about all the questions, but i know this is a E30 majoring forum, what are parts costs, servicing, any problems at this amount of kays (168,000) and what would this be like on petrol?
