  1. i've got some team mechanix stands and they work fine... had them for 4 years now...Â
  2. Well then you will need a mix of proper application suitable hoses and rubber hoses. I've got some rubber hoses that are being used as oil breather pipes and they are crap (no i didn't put them on the car) and they weep oil out of them. You will need to make sure they are rated to the tempratures for the area they will be in use. Things to think of also: Chemical Resistance? - should coolent, oil, grease, dirt, etc get on them will they die quicker... Operational Heat Ranges?  - will they melt, deform, weep, etc... in temp's experanced under bonnet. etc...
  3. No Probs, By removing the weight being applied to the towers at the time of installation you will effectively remove any preloading of the towers as the cars weight rests on those points. It's benfits are marginal but it's one of those things that i was told to do as best practice.Â
  4. Depending on the application of intended use they would be fine. For coolent / oil you will want proper hoses (either silicon or non-silicon) for the job. For areas where boost or vacuum will occur you will need to make sure the hoses will not colapase or buldge when in those conditions. Wiring you can get colored sleaves you could resleave the wires into groups if you wanted too... http://cableorganizer.com/braided-sleeving/

  7. I figured he would have judging by the previous threads of his i've read. I was expecting it to be a case of i post a reply exlpaining why and then waiting for the full wrath of Mt. Olypmus to come crashing down on me...
  8. can't tell if your bring serious or not...
  9. Just to let you know incase your not aware, quickshifters will place extra strain/wear on syncro's and will wear them out quicker...Â
  10. Funky man... I'll price them up, do you guys have a shop so ican have a look at it?
  11. Hello, Probably not the right area but oh well... I'm looking to get a low profile jack to work on the 205 with, as the old team mechanix's one has been a goodie but its now a pain in the butt. i've been having a look around and have no idea as to what i should be looking at. I know i'll need something that has a min height of at least 100mm as the pug is lowered. Are the repco ones ok? It's not going to be a daily used item, i would like something thats not going to weigh 2 tons either as i'll be transporting it down to tracks/paddocks.... idea's?
  12. I'll bring it up because no one else has... Raped when used can and does mean just as it was used. source: Jargon File 4.2.0 rape vt. 1. To screw someone or something, violently; in particular, to destroy a program or information irrecoverably. Often used in describing file-system damage. "So-and-so was running a program that did absolute disk I/O and ended up raping the master directory." 2. To strip a piece of hardware for parts. 3. [CMU/Pitt] To mass-copy files from an anonymous ftp site. "Last night I raped Simtel's dskutl directory." Source: www.dictionary.com rape - 21 dictionary results rape1  [reyp] Show IPA noun, verb, raped, rap⋅ing. –noun 1. the unlawful compelling of a woman through physical force or duress to have sexual intercourse. 2. any act of sexual intercourse that is forced upon a person. 3. statutory rape. 4. an act of plunder, violent seizure, or abuse; despoliation; violation: the rape of the countryside. 5. Archaic. the act of seizing and carrying off by force. –verb (used with object) 6. to force to have sexual intercourse. 7. to plunder (a place); despoil. 8. to seize, take, or carry off by force. –verb (used without object) 9. to commit rape. Origin: 1250–1300; (v.) ME rapen < AF raper < L rapere to seize, carry off by force, plunder; (n.) ME < AF ra(a)p(e), deriv. of raper I feel strongly against the act of rape agaisnt people, I think rapist should be castrated (not chemically), but for as long as I've been into cars "Raped" was always used as a term meaning abuse and distruction. In no way was it associated with the act of human rape. I can see both sides of the aguement and earlier I was thinking ban it, but as I've read the rest I've thought back to when and where I've used rape as I was used to kick this off, and it's not been often but it's been the pefecg word at the time. I think it falls into that catagory of depending on context it's ok, but if the mods/admins feel it's not used in the appropriate context then remove. c**t is anouther one... I.e he/she is a gc sure it's bogan as, but it's a term said a lot in NZ. I'm sure it wouldn't be hard for you to think of how many people would say "f**k ya, He's a good c**t should have seen him raping his car on the track it was brutal." Do I personally want to see a forum full of that, no... But that is how a lot of people talk, the topic of language standards on forums is always fun. Aussiefrogs = no offensive language, even when using it in context refering to something that Jill public called some members at a meet. Old school = free for all... I say leave it for use in context. I hope everyone has a gay morning... I will as I get to work from home this week.
  13. Right don't know if you guys remember me commenting about the hydrolic handbrake sticking on or not, but this is what happens when rear pads are constantly overheated...
  14. ya they where a little soft with the 306 m/c and the 307 calipers but really need the 23.8mm m/c for true stopping power. and then they pull up big time... the extra 40mm of disc and much heavier calipers does increase the unsprung weight a fair bit but it's worth it.
  15. Kinda, it would be better than the 205's one, and we are going to use it in the meantime, but it's only 22mm and is still too small... really need to splash out and get the 23.8mm one...
  16. i was always told to jack the car up slightly to remove the weight from the towers before installing the braces, as it will make the brace that much more effective.
  17. I"m hoping to have it all done by this time next month... then it's just a matter of finding somewhere to go have a good blast in it... Up until know i've been holding back on driving it... as i've got no confidence in the brakes and didn't want to damage the gearbox any further... I know the 306 box is good as it was looked over when i put a new clutch in it last year, i had all the seals and stuff done at the same time and Greg pulled the end off to have a inspection of the box and tighten a few things up. The 306 also has hardly been driven in that time also... As the 205 runs the mi16 engine it's got the same flywheel as whats on the s16, Greg and Mark can't remember if the engine was balanced or not, so we are just going to use the MI16 flywheel instead of the S16 fly. I can't wait until it's all up and running, i'm thinking i'll increase the shift length a little also to be a bit kinder on the syncro's. The modified lever arm has 3 positions on it for shifter length so it's easy to adjust.
  18. I"ve sold the engine out of the S16 (talk about perfect timing - a fastfrogs member blew his engine up a  little while back) so the cash from that will be used to pay for all the gearbox work, brake bais valve, new brake lines. The only thing left to do after that will be to get some new race compound brake pads, and then it's go time baby! Ohhh i'll also need to upgrade the master cylinder to a 23.8mm on from the 405 t16 as with the larger calipers you get some travel in the pedal before the brakes really start working...Â
  19. Whooo the saga continues! On Saturday I decided that it was time to finally kill off the 306, she'd been a long and trusted friend providing many smiles... But I was time to get serious, she needed lots of work to be 100% again and it just wasn't worth it... So donor car she becomes... So parts being stolen from the 306 for the 205... - Gearbox, this will fix my problem with the 1st and 3rd syncro's being dead. I'll look at swapping over the Quaife LSD diff and the 1.6 final ratios that’s in the 205 gearbox. - Brakes, the 306 was running the 307 front brakes on it which are an upgrade on the 306's... The 307 front discs are 283mm vs. the 244mm (or around that) front discs on the 205... Now slapping the 307 brakes on the 306 took a whooping 30min.... Today we started at 12:30ish and by 6pm they still where not on the car... Turns out that my 205 runs the crap 1.6 gti front hubs, driveshaft’s, control arms, etc... and because these are different to the 1.9 205's, 306's, and 307's we couldn't fit them directly to the car. We started to strip the hubs and driveshaft’s off the 306 to see if they would fit but they are 20mm to long, whooo... now given that both cars where up in the air, wheels off, and brakes off, it wasn't going to be easy to undo the hubnuts to see if we could just use the 306 hubs on the 1.6 setup. So after a few phone calls and much grrrness I’ve got someone hunting down a set of 1.9 gti gear for the car in exchange for some 306 bits. So we had to put the 205 back together so we could roll it out of the driveway and back in it's storage spot. Now it's even more fun as the 1.6 hubs have had stud conversions done to them... and the new hubs won't! whooo more fun... So it looks like I’ll be on the hunt for a new stud conversion kit also. The gearbox will be swapped over after it's removed from the 306 next weekend. The 205 and the gearbox will be delivered to Greg's to do the swap for me, as the 306 s16 runs a pull clutch not a push clutch like most cars... Once both gearboxes are off Greg Kents will decide which is the best clutch to use as we don't know what the 205 has in it. So all things working out it looks like maybe this time next month I might have a race ready car. Rock on!
  20. there are a a few 307 facelift hdi's on trademe at themoment.... good cars!
  21. i might have to buy it... need a new daily anyways...
  22. You know not to brace yourself with your feet pressed against the floorboards right? Espisally in frontal accidents as depending on the force you can break your ankles. Also becarefully with the steering wheel if during the crash you catch a front tyre the sudden turning of the steering gwheel has been known to break peoples thumbs as the inner part turns quickly and catches them in it spin.
