Hahhahaha excuse Me for my dumbness! I took 5 minutes off, went back and found the relay cover was undone, and the rear catch on the side where it was sitting high was striking on the edge of the cover! Some things are really simple, just gotta work out a cause and effect! Please shoot me, flame Me!

Hi Y'all, as I said, I can't close the bonnet! It opened okay, but now won't close. The bonnet swings down, but you cannot push it down in to the lock position. There's some sort of mechanical, like a physical block there. I tried forcing it, a bit, sat on it, won't budge? 1 side seems to be sitting slightly higher than the other? Yesterday a silly little man of asian descent backed into us, hardly touched the car, left a little paint on the LHS bumper strip, hardly contacted at all, just a glance, we managed to back away avoiding full contact! Can't see this having any bearing on it? but car's sitting in driveway now! I looked at oem brekdown of bonnet parts, cant see anything there. perhaps the torsion spring, but no difference if I lever this out of the load position. hinges etc do not seem to have suddenly seized? Seems to be a mechanical resistance at the front 'engine hood joint, it wont budge... Anyone on board can help me out I'd appreciate it! Cheers.

Hi Y'all. saw an ad for a 635 '86 or so, bit short on details... Heads off it, interiors mint, body could use TLC. Sounds like me! I love these cars, I assume they got pretty much the same running gear, panelling etc as the e23? But then I'd have to discard the e23 I've been working on... Cast off like an old girlfriend in favour of something new! Head off etc, is an opportunity, to get a head made up, with cam to match.. The possibilities. The e23 is near roadworthy, just speedo and rear seal now, then back over the pits! Everyone's allowed to dream right? Saw an e21 2 door 323 around the corner, but it's rusted out, pass on that one. The e30 is being passed down to my son now. My daughter's bf has an audi she can have... Thoughts comments, Should I buy it? Maybe I should sell the e34? buy a X5 anna K1000?

Thanks for that, checked the fuel at the hoses on the sender, plenty of pressure there. better not be anything simple like a blocked filter, I had that changed last year ann I've only done 5000 k's since then.... Anyway it's gone on a trailer to the German, Peter's master motor mechanic, here in Rockingham. He's got a new diagnostic tool, did he say it cost $400k? musta been $40k, could just about buy a house here for $400k Thinking fuel pressure? Very little return from the return hose vs the amount it was pumping. Anyway, as I said, I'm back to work for 2 weeks!

All these things have been tested, the cars running sweet now, but still breaks down at idle. It'll sit okay, then give a surge, and or a dip, doesn't seem to be missing? Like a mis-fire. Sometimes it sits there and idles like a high lift cam, 'lump lump lump', then it evens out to a smooth idle... The car rocks and shakes a bit... But once you're moving it's fine! Seems worse when the car is cold. And sometimes it's hardly noticeable too! I'm taking it back in to Andy, needs wheel bearings and a boot for the steering rack, He's gunner look at it again. But here's my new theory: The cat is partly blocked, at idle there's too much backpressure and the engine is trying to figure out what it should do? At revs there's more flow and it pushes through the cat? I found the old receipts for it, this car's been in for service by the P.O since 2006 for rough idle! New head, cambelt ICV O2 sensor, trans overhauled (next post) hoses. 2nd hand cpu and maf, cap and rotor, injectors... So my theory on the Cat being a 'bit run down'? Yeah or nah. I'm back to work today so I'm dropping it off on the way to the airport, Yeah I take a plane to work! a Lear Jet, not! So hopefully we can sort this once and for all, just a discussion, it's going to the shop today! Cheers Y'all

Cheers for that! Checked the pipes in and out of the fuel tank, return is weak flow, good pressure from the outflow side, nearest the rear of the vehicle. So seems I got spark and fuel pressure, at the tank anyway? The fuel filter should have been done last year, looks pretty new... Would it b worth taking the fuel rail off to see if it has pressure at the engine end? Could it be something simple like a relay to the cpu or dme or whatever acronym? If is, how come it has spark? What else does it need? Juice, electricity... I'll keep looking, asking.... cheers.

Damn for tinkering.. Pulled the fuelgauge sender out, now can't get it back on, damn rubber groommet, does it just sit there and the jam jar top will screw it down? Can't seem to get it started!! Guess this is how we learn things innit?

Cheers for that link, blame my old eyes and my stubborness to wear glasses, saw the same pix on oem, dint see them on the car til I found a torch, cold wet WA day today... $1200 for a fuel pump, or $395 for one that's used, mite have a dodgy relay or something... From my mate Andy at Beemer Motor World, maddington (WA not papakura). He tinkered with my daughter's car, changed a lead, still surging at idle, but better. new set of leads inc the crank sensor? Cheers Y'all

Hi Y'all. My car's stopped.. I suspect the fuel pump? But I'm a bit lost. I've never touched it in 4 years, now I have too... Does anyone have a link to pictures of an e34 rebuild? Atm I can't even get the spark plugs out (hangs head in shame)... I've been told there's only a couple of bolts holding the covers on, but nothing seems willing to move... Car spluttered a bit, and now wont start... Luckily it was just at home. Any links to a rebuild or similar wood be appreciated. Or I'll have to borrow my daughter's e30, for a change... Cheers edit: I can see on real oem, that these covers seem to just lift/pop/pry off, but unwilling to force it. Do the wires that run through, to the coil packs/plugs? Are they attached to anything, or can I gently lever this cover off with my trusty wrecking bar? Cheers Y'all..

True! Last week we tested each lead, by pulling gthem off and there was a resultant drop in idle. Yesterday when it was running like a pigs bottom again.. My daughter's bf tested each lead. Good spark from 2/6 bright and blue, others were yellow spark. He tested the resistance of the leads ann they were fine. I'm going back to work tomorrow (yay) fore another 2 weeks ann we're dropping it off at Beemer Motor Works. Andy there is gunner start from scratch and trace it down! It Shirley is baffling, I'm pretty sure it's a GHOST! But when we pick it up again, hopefully it'll be all good. More theories welcome but, a prize for the person who gets it right!

Duh, I know! Long story "will theses fit an e30?" ":yeah' okay'... Send them then...WTF $300 is not a weeks pay any more I don't live in NZ any more!! I can get hubcentric spacers from TMS, have them on my car, fitted 18's off an e53 to e34 25mm spacers, no problems at all... BTw here in WA we don't have WOF's, you can drive around with no exhaust, no brakes, huge rust holes, and you're fine, unless you get caught, then it's over the pits. Which is a death knell for most old bangers...

Yup e30's are 4x100, ya got me there! lollies. A spacer plate converting 4x100 to 5x100 is what I meant! Actually what I said too! But, what's the difference between M rims and std e30 rims, besides above 4x100 5x100? Are they the same rims as all other 5 studs? Just the offset is different? Is the M front suspension different by much to std suspension? Is it an upgraded, ie later model, suspension? Cheers.
-
Hi Y'all, after a few minutes solid research... I have arrived at a conclusion... The new rims are 16x7 ET33. std ET is 15-35. So about a 20-25mm spacer plate, 4x120 to 5x120 will see us looking sweet? Tell me if I got that wrong?
-
Seems hard to get 4 stud alloys except in a limited range. How hard is it to change the rotors or stubs to a 5 stud??
-
M20 B20 You could eat your dinner off the ICV!
-
Doh! Wheels arrived, nice light rims and all, but 5 stud... Seller assured me they fit an e30. So do I sell them? or buy spacer plates. A quick measure, these rims are about 14cm from the plate to the inside rim of the wheel, tape measure and a flat stick... A quick look at an old e30 rim, a 13, off a 1.8 is about 10cm. Quick look on TMS and I can buy new 15's for $115 each, about $400 ozzie. $300 for spacers. Think I'll sell them and get sum 4 studs... Buying online grr...

The injectors were taken out and sent for servicing.Sooty plug was recent anomoly, changed plugs after 1 year. could've been plugs, they were pretty old!Not a cold start problem. ATM it's going fine, but shaking about at idle, Never done a compression test, Runs fine sometimes, so it's not a constant... I'm taking it into get fixed when I go back to work, he can have it for 2 weeks. Just trying to get my head around it all...

Hi Y'all. We bought this car for my daughter and we've had it about 3 years. When we first got it, it had a lot of work done on it, head, new hoses, torque converter, trans. It'd been owned by an old man and He'd spent about $5k on it. I paid the dealer $4.5k. When we first saw it, they had it in the garage out back. Reckon the cleaners got water in the computer, e30 screens leak that side... But it was idling up and down really fast. They never fixed it, but gave it to us running the day we picked it up. They'd turned the air con on to up the idle... We took it back and they toyed with it, 2nd hand afm and computer. But still not right, never got it to idle right and it ran like a bag of horse droppings. The idle was still flicking up and down, not surging, 700 to 1000rpm like a switch? Gave it to my mate Andy in Maddington and he cleaned it out a bit, twiddled with the afm and got it going alright. But we've never managed to get it going perfectly. I've had the injectors serviced. changed the cap and the rotor, plugs new timing belt, tappets... It's a 320i 6/89 I'm A bit suss over the belt and tappets, done by different people who don't know bmw? Lately it's been 'choking up', idle has been rough, and sometimes it surges at idle and then is rough pulling away, not a misfire, just 'choking'. It clears itself and pulls away, just at low revs. It's a bit intermittent, sometimes it's fine. When it goes it pulls away strong, up to 5-6krpm, no missing. Took it into my mate Andy's today, he played with it for an hour, no vacuum leaks, tried a few afm's, checked the icv, twiddled with it and got it going nicerly. But He took the plug off the afm and the motor still ran? he asked if anyone had put a chip in it? Not us, dunno bout the old man though? Wear gunner take it back there for him to go over it properly, tappets, compression etc, And he may as well do the wheel bearings, I'm sick of cars! But what is it with this car that it's never ran right? 5 spark plugs were lean, one was a bit blacker? #6. I'm sure we'll get this sorted... eventually. The motor is a good strong runner, fluids are okay, doesn't use any or leak. Me thinks something electrical? Different computer? afm? Reckon they prob traded the car like that, old boys put a few dollars into it. Dunno if it was the water in the computer, or why old boy sold it? HAS IT GOT A GHOST? Any theories or insights I'd appreciate, it's perplexed a few people already!

Hi Y'all. a few weeks later and she's still driving my car. New plugs helped a lot, rotor and coil.. Just about running fine now, but now and then the spark deterirates, at idle, low revs and pulling away. it clears itself and takes off. This is intermittent, otherwise goes fine now! I only get 1 week in 3 off, and if I don't sort it She'll have my car for another 2 weeks... Taking it in for a diagnostic tomorrow! I'll finish this post once I know what it is... Cheers Y'all!

Rather not! Went to school about 35 years ago, mite've met your mother there?
-
No, they advertised as fitting an early 3 series, seller says they will fit e30.can only be e30 or e21, only ones with a 4 stud! As far as I know they will bolt straight up! If they don't fit, i've wasted a days pay, and I'll sell them again!
-
Dunno, they for a early model 3 series, so I guess that's an e30.. Mindjew we were looking at an e21 last week, 323, 2 door $500 but pretty rusty. And we still got an e23 sitting in the drive. It's got e34 15's on it, got the old 17's off my car, see if they'll fit it?

Ended up spotting these at the last minute, newbie on ebay, but got them after sale $300 delivered to Perth!! It's what She wanted 'chromies' or near enough to it, and 5 spokes. Guess 50 profile wood bring them back to about the same rolling height as 14 X 65's or whatever She has now. Everyone's happy...http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130521313670&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_500wt_922

Saw them on Gumtree, tell me what you's think? Got a set of 16's 5 spoke, what she wants in any case... Tyres to fit?? 50's? 235's? for a 16" rim 4 stud. http://perth.gumtree.com.au/c-Cars-Vehicle...AdIdZ278845903# Given these are about 25mm thick, what offset wheel wood we be looking at to fit with these?
-
Thats why I seldom come to this site, cos of dicks like u!I'll make it simpler... If an e30 were 5stud, what size wheels would fit like 17's? Any offsets like e36 that won't fit? I don't have any 'acutal' wheels, I'm looking for an answer from somebody perhaps has done it already. E 30 my 21 yr old daughters car. Trust me to hit the PG section. Can any grown ups help me please?
