,Um I think it was the valentine 2, picks up the new bands the cops are using in WA, about $800. still not convinced of the need for the laser blocker, reckon it'll look like arse under the number plate ann there's no real need for it, I drive fast up here like 200+, but stick to the limit around town ann mostly on the freeway... Still looking for speaker sizes x6 looked up oem but they dont give measurements. Ann how do I pop the bonnet if my key wont work on the LHS?! I assume a US tailpipe ann muffler wood be no different to a european (aus) model? Guess I'll just ask them

hi y 'all. Looking at a set of alpine speakers on ebay, told him the model of car, still wants sizes???? Sorry, but what are they? Reccomendations anyone? Need a new rear muffler, seen some on turners motorsport, about $700, any improvement upon that? I'm buying a radar detector with front parking sensor laser blocker, got caught at 162km/h on Australias outback roads, apparently I'm a hoon.. so thought i'd spend some money on my car whilst its feeling neglected... But my battery has completely died & I think the LHS door key hole is a wreck?? How am I gunner open the bonnet?? Cheers guys from Onslow 6710 Pilbara WA currently 27 deg...!

Hi y'all, I'm putting my car into the shop again this coming week, this time to look at the trans shifting. History; when I first bought it the P/*/E switch didn't work. I got another one, same... so after that it 'came right', the P switch worked... Bbbbut I think there was an 'incident' once, this would've been 2 years ago... The trans wouldn't shift up when it was cold. In Sports mode it won't change outa 2nd until it hits about 3.5-4000rpm, just the first minute or so... As I vaguely remember, it wouldn't shift up to #5th in E also until it was nice & warm... Also, this is the point of this thread here... In E it goes straight up to top gear, like blaaaah! S, or is it P? Stays in gear to about 2000rpm usually, won't shift any higher than 4th? or maybe 5th, just not overdrive... At the moment, & for the last couple years i've just gotten used to it, Sports around town E on the open road. But now I've got a budget I'm getting it 'looked at'... A few weeks back I got them to drop the pan , change the fiter & renew the fluid etc, very much improved shifting! So the crux of this story, they want to look at the trans shifting programme again. I'm a bit dubious, I reckon there's a fault somewhere, like a relay or a switch? Somerthing simple in the trans shifting program? They not opening up the trans again, but they could spend hours tracking down something that's pretty simple. It's just an auto trans shop, They good, but I think I need an auto electrician? Or somebody that knows BMW autos? So does anybody have a similar experience? Maybe your Rolls Royce does the same thing, same trans! If I had an indication of where the fault lay, I could direct them to that, rather than spend $ on them experimenting? Thanks, hope that's not too much information...

Haha, I think she's single, she was last week.. wait, it's sunday, who knows? good healthy kiwi girl she is... Yeah I've bought stuff from TMS for myself & never had a problem, freights a killer, but still cheaper than local, still cheaper than 25% off supercheap where daughter works, in Rockingham.. Thanks for the line on the exhaust, they only differentiate between the 4 cylinder & the 6, so I figure they all the same. Is M stuff any different, as far as fitting goes? ATM she's only got factory iron manifold. Then again ATMoment she aint got any money; and neither will I shortly... My son's 16 & working on e23, guess who's financing that?

Kin hel man... It's my daughters daily drive, it's got 200+k's on it & was an old mans car. I already bought her 1 car, a e30 318, she got Tboned. Wouldn't let her drive a hyundai, so I buy her a e30 2 litre, goes fine, nothing wroung with it, not about to go stroking it or blowing it. It's a 20 year old car, so chances are it'll need some maintenance, now & again, and as kind loving father I help her out occasionally. 2nd hand I can find around maddington, it's an option, specially so I can spend some money on my own car. Still, like to do the right thing with cars, fix it once then forget it... Want to change the exhaust on my car too, again I'll be buying a new one, factory muffler on a V8 sucks, so I put a 3" single pipe & straight through muffler, goes good, but sounds like a Holden. & drones inside. Now I have to replace it again, shoulda done it tright the first time! Edit: Please resize your pictures. This isn't the first time. Cheers

Hi Y'all. My daughter has a car so she has no money, she does have a generous father however... I think we need a new exhaust, the rear muffler was changed about 6 months ago, el cheapo 2 into 1... not my doing. Now it's sounding like a tractor. I'm looking to replace the whole system from head to bumper. I've been looking & see lots of options, factory to m or full race stuff. Various prices, lots of suppliers... Q. what's a good reasonably cheap set up? Q. Can I mix & match? see pelican have cheap headers, can get a cat sumwear else & cat back also. Q. With headers, they will be for US market & I specify RHD correct? Q/ All the sales lists indicate m20 b25, so the exhaust is the same for all 6 cylinder variants, 20 23 25 27?, as opposed to the 18 which is a single pipe front to back..

Hey thanks for that! I'm like 1/2 a world away from NZ, But if You can give me a price & some way of paying you... I can X your palm with silver! Not much call for skis over here! cept sand skis!

Hi Ya'all e34... Got a fishing rod which is longer than my cabin space, usually I just poke it out the sunroof, but I got a 1300km trip coming up & I'd rather not... How do I take out the ski hole hatch. Looks like it's just spot welded. can I punch it out? How do I get it out, do they have any device to seure it, a cat flap hinge or something to replace it when I'm not going fishing?? Thanks!

Final outcome: sway bar links were loose. replaced them, all good. New radiator, Injector service.. ouch, another $1000 to a good cause!!

I used to live in Hahei! stayed with my mate there a few months, moved to cooks berach for near 2 years, loved it, had a holden commondoor then, with the twisty body...Filipino tyres are reccommended, Chinese ones are not. They have like michelin clones, made in the same moulds but not branded...

Put new disc rotors on it, dunno bout the wheel bearings, but I'll make a note.Spacers were H&R ordered for this model. Plan on replacing the rear control arms & the stubby one up the front & everything else while I'm there. reckon that'll take care of the slight wheel wobble (feels like?) running 40's & sports bilsteins is soon gonna wear out anything soft.. My immediate concern is the bump stops & the fitting of the struts, the top nut seems to be protuding so far the dust cap don't fit & there's a metal to metal contact. Dunno why he didn't replace the stops/ or needed to customise them to make them fit? Or where he got the price $200 for spring pads. Is the bilstein different from factory stops? Could be my bad for not supplying new stops etc. Sure ike to know a bit more about it, but at the end of the day I'm gunner have to trust in his integrity to do the right thing. make it good again & don't charge me for the stuff which he should have got tright the first time. I've told him I'm not happy, but want to pay his account before I take it back, anothe $1000 next weeks pay & we're square...
-
Thank you guys for responding to my predicament. Yes H&R spacers. Brand new, almost wheels, be harde pushed to pick 2 best ones... Can you get the wheels balanced on ther car? Don't know what exactly my guy meant when he couldn't fit the bump stops. The spring kit sez to use the factory stops. but are bilsteins different? I printed a picture last night of the spring/shock set up, I'll take that back in to show him. He seems a good mechanic, got a fee beemers, saabs, audis & mercs in his shop, so I'm giving him full benefit at the moment. Pretty sure we can come to an agreement where he fixes it up & it doesn't cost me for all the additional work, alignments etc he subs out... So, from looking at the picture what cushioning is there between the car & the strut without the bump stops? Think he had to cut the rear ones to make them fit. do I need Bilsteinn bump stop & H&R spring pads? If I had a better idea of what was what I could go bak to him & say exactly what it was. Not suggesting he's inept or trying to con me, it was a rush job, I wanted my car back in 2 days, public trnsport sucks!

18.s off an e53 40 profile tyres , bilstein HD sports & H&R springs, certainly rides better, a little hard maybe... But My guy who put them in, i supplied them ( cheaper uSa), decided not to change the original cups... $200 for a cup kit... now it's clanking & banging like metal to metal.. grr! Gunner cost me $ to strip it down again & fit new ones, grr. I want to change the front control arms too, the little ones, changed the big ones, the ball joints were shot. But now I've (still) got a slight wheel wobble at low low speeeds? The front control arms? It's got 28mm spacers (H&R) up front & 25's at rear, same ride height as the 17's, don't think the answer lies there.. I've got a shake at about 140k's not major, but annoying, guess I gotta fit new cups & front control arms, start from there? maybe it's the cheap ass ebay tyres, but they said they were good! Like a new car now, handles so much better, looks aggressive, eveybody peels off into the left lane when they see me coming... id a few overdue bits, belts & pulleys, pulled the pan off the auto. $5000 all up, $3k for the servicing, the fitting of springs etc & a few other bits. I'd be interseted to know if I'm on the right track, think I've pretty much answered myself, when you do suspension, do it all, the weakest link will fail... But any insights wood be appreciated? Edit; What I forgot to mention, maybe the most important.. he couldn't fit the bumpstops, left them out. The top nut on the strut tower, the thread is so long the dust cap won't fit! The guys pretty good, auto haus, does euro cars, so I just want to know what's going on & I'm sure we'll sort something out, but the more Information I can glean the better i'll be able to explain 'it's making a noise'. before &after pics, we can get speights in WA! Looked up real oem, the spring pads, not cups are only a few dollars, nowhere near $200, not camber plates?? Heeelp... Edit: Please resize pictures then re-upload.

6/89 e30 b 20 auto 200k's original, old mans car. any chance of getting some help, hold the BS? My daughter's car. i bought it for her, & I'm the one who ends up fixing it, or paying for it... tonight Vrrm vrrm off the lights, show it up to her mates, something (maybe) goes bang. juries out on that. She reckons it kicked down really hard, high rev? Park light & ignition (battery) lights come on.. still goes. later on it gets hot, she parks up before too hot, "daad my cars not going..." Long story short. Electrics suspect, can a big surge like that fry the computer or sumthing? Starts & runs fine, oil 's clean, just changed it last week... The fan's not going, electrical, filled it with water at side of road, in kwinana, the bad lands... opened the bleed valve, with it open the water surges back to the top tank overflowing & spilling all the water. cap on dumps through the overflow. ,Towed it home, ran okay from cold, bit stiff to start, low battery 20 min drive at max 40k's (snow* setting good for towing ). filled it, bled it ran, but wouldn't start after that, no turnover, flat battery, siezed, doubt it? This ismy guess, she's blown the head, or is it the fan, maybe the water pump shat itself. If the water pumps shat the shaft be broken, the fan no go, the engine boils? Told her to go buy a bus ticket! I would aprecciate some help from yous that know... Do I come across as some kind of joker here or what? Thanks.

I don't like the front of them much!Do they have the vanos cams set up? is this a problem with this mileage range (quick dump them before they cost millions)?

for Sale $500 giveaway price. '86 520i e28, cant say howmany miles, but reasonably tidy. I cooked the motor teasching my sont o do O's & 8's on the beach. Went to australia for 6 months & left the car at cylinder head specialist, a mate of mine. Was meant to be mates rates but the woman in his life would have none of that. head's been welded, milled, xrayed cat scanned etc, engines been out, new frost plugs. never touched the bottom of the engine, but still spent over $2k. It's sitting in a containaer out of that southland weather, costing $ in storage & i aint never conming back, not down south anyway.. It's pretty tidy & always went well, for a 2l... Obviously it's deregistered. I'd like to get more for it than that, it's cost me $3k + all up. it needs a radiator & a new battery. Has acouple of rusty spots on the rr door & the control arm bushes were pretty clunky. Sorry about the stupid bonnet scoop, it was a good idea at the time... I'm dumping all my crap & clearing the container, costing me more than the cars worth. gotta mate in Invers has the keys for the container if you wanna look, but $500, as is, trust me! I steam cleaned it too. Before i put it away it sat outside for a year!

hi Y'all. I'm looking at buying a new car, currently on my shortlist is an e39 540i sports. Presently these are selling for anywhere between $20 & 30k Ozzy eastern prices, far more over here in sleepy ole WA (wait awhile). Seen some nice ones on cars guide, around 120-150km's. Is there areason these cars are all for sale with similar mileage, Are they just upgrading, or are there issues? do they need a major service or anything at any time in the near future. My plan is to buy something good then treat it badly, make it hurt. consistently red line it & full on round all corners. Over here we don't have WOF system, a warrant for life, unless you get pulled by the law & have to get vehicle recertifyed. I know i have problems growing up, but if I could, I could cut the cat out of it & repalce with a straight pipe, just been looking at TMS site so I know it's possible. Would this be foolhardy & reckless? If yes i will definitely do it. seriously, what are the downsides to the e39 540i, is there anything i need to look for, obviously, for one, that the PO hasn't treated the car as i intend to. i've heard the urban suburban experience is harder on a car, so mileage is not always a reliable indicator, (look at jap imports) Is 150km's commuting mileage harder on a car? i suppose te service history would indicate dates vs mileage? Any thoughts? on the car!

My 50c (23cNZ!) i've had a 530i for 2 years now, daily driver, nothing spesh. I rate it A for Awesome. Yeah the 6's are okay, but get yourself a V8 quad cams etc. 180kw, about the same as similar year SS commondoor... Awesome transmissions, even an auto; has the sports economy, sports is beefy, econ is blah. they use these transmissions in rolls royce, sealed for life, no dipstick. Throw a decent exhaust on it, throw away the hearse style muffler. IMO nothing like a V8 pulling 7k. reasonable on gas, i get 600k from a tank, bit less just round town. Average is about 11km/100k's, have had it down to 9.3 sole higway trips. Good luck finding a manual, I'vegot a guy who can import a motor & gearbox for $500, about $1500 $US. Definitely sexier look, the V8, or post '93 with the wide grill & power bulge wider bonnet. Do think it lacks a bit mid range torque, but it's only 3 litres so give it a break... I can get a 4.4 V8 6 speed manual for about $5k. buy US, imported in container of american boat anchors! Check the temp on that pic!

$479 US Turner motor sport, 4 HD sports e34. cant remember freight. H&R springs $232 set. 30mm spacers $179 25mm spacers $149 $US

Just catching up with a few jobs while 've got the time.I've looked at the search options... I thought this was why you had this forum on here, o people could ask stupid questions. Not trying to get a post count up, why wood I Thanks, see ya..

I got a sunroof. out of an e23, but think they all te same? Complete with all the struts. drains etc. In WA but! Sorry no foto.

Yeah this car's shift up is pretty temperamental 1st to 2nd is pretty slow, changes up at low revs almost straight away, drives up the street in top gear almost. but when a certain father drives it to it's fullcapabilities. (Sorry '89 320i auto 200k's M20 DME) - when it changes up withdad behind the wheel, it stays in 2nd I think so long that when it upshifts the rear wheels momentarily lose traction, gives as little skid as it hits the next gear. So do we look at the trans? it is relatively new, was rebuilt previous owner (old man)... the kickdown etc, like that would fix the slow upshift wouldn't it? Or is it the throttle sensor thingy? Q2. The passenger (left!) side window is playing up, going down but refuses to come back up (electric), we've got the cut out switch on the console, hit htis a few times & so far it's worked, but will need replaced. I've got some e23, like an old one '84 I think, bits, wood they be the same motor or wghatever it is? It's at my brothers place & prob covereb in redbacks... the joys of living in oz... Thanks guys!

Thankds for the link, never too sure what they mean when they say ,drivers side'...I can open it, just want my vice grips back, but then again, I'm the only one that ever lifts the bonnet, hood. Mobile wardrobe... Guess 'll have a look at crimping the end of it & maybe move the lever forward? or just leaving it! couple more things, but new post.. Thanks.

Hi Y'all, thanks for quick reply, we'll get one of themT valves asap, didn't think they should spray the firewall.. Same car 89/90 e30, the bonnet release cables busted & I want my vice grips back, they hanging on the inside cable end. This looks like a big job, threading a new cable thru, I saved one from her first car, and from memory I think I need to take off the brake booster & all the insulation both sides of the firewall?? Are there any easy ways out of this? (let somebody else do it!) Meanwhile, after driving her car for 5 minutes ( I changed the dizzy cap) I decided she seriously needs sum new brakes TMS has some for about $US $75, is that good? Damn girls, they live in their cars, a wardrobe on wheels, but virtually no brakes! Cheers PS; we don't have W.O.F tests over here, WA, keep your car in license & never need to have it checked again, Coppers can order you off the road for any defects, but my old e23 passed with only minors, bulbs etc... there's a few rust buckets getting around!
